I agree with you.....I think hiring Matta makes sense, but was just trying to take the "feel of this room". No one has a better winning percentage than Matta (.740) except for Mark Few (.834), hell even Pitino is only (.702), Musselman (.705), Tony Bennett (.728), Chris Beard (.711), Matt Painter as a companion is (.661)
-
For me, take away Chris Mack and replace with Mike White from Florida
-
I would love to see what Mark Few could do in a real conference. His worst season ever: 23-11........just WOW
-
Steve Lavin, I was shocked over some of his success..... 226-133 (.630), 4 sweet 16's and an Elite 8, also thought he was older, but only 56.
-
To me you go all out on our dream coaches then go down a tier: Tier 1: Brad Stevens, Billy Donovan, Jay Wright, Tony Bennett, Mark Few, Bill Self Tier 2: Chris Beard, Nate Oates, Scott Drew, Eric Musselman, Mike White, Andy Enfield, Mick Cronin, Mike Boynton, Porter Moser, Chris Mack Tier 3: Thad Matta, John Beilein, Rick Pitino, Steve Alford, Steve Lavin, Mark Pope, Dane Fife, Calbert Cheaney, Scott Skikes, Mike Woodson

Matta overall 439-154 (.740) 1 yr at Butler 24-8 (.750) round of 32 3 yrs. at Xavier 78-23 (.772) Elite 8, rd 32, rd 32 13 yrs at Ohio State 337-123 (.733) NCAA runner-up, Final 4, Elite 8, two sweet 16's, 2 rd of 32, 2 rd 64, NIT Champ, NIT rd 2, only missed Tourney all together in his final year.

Why 2025...he's only 53? Look at his Wikipedia and tell me he isn't a winner. His winning percentage is .740 and that includes his last 2 years where he could barely stand or walk. Rumor is he is healthy now after his last back surgery. I will take a coach with Indiana ties with a .740 winning % all day long!
-
Just look at Shaka's NCAA success at Texas vs Beard at Texas Tech and tell me why Texas isn't at least contemplating it.
-
Coaches under Thad Matta: Sean Miller, Archie Miller, Brad Stevens, Todd Lickliter, John Groce. All have had some success out on their own, again these looked better in 2017 vs 2021. You can't argue that Matta can't coach, we need him to hire or keep a great recruiter.
-
Thad Matta, you're the next man up and I think that would be a good hire if he's healthy
-
Candidate Thread: Brad Stevens (Boston Celtics)
NVFalcons1990 replied to Hovadipo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Steve Lavin maybe.....lol -
Shaka in NCAA's as Texas coach last 4 years: Year 1: One and done in NCAA, 8-10 in conf. Year 2: NIT Champs, 8-10 in conf. Year 3: 9-9 in conf. Year 4: One and done in NCAA
-
Hell Texas buys out football coaches, like we do basketball coaches!!! Too soon? Lol
-
Would never rule out Texas money in their athletic department. You telling me that Matthew McConaughey isn't a donor with some $$$$
-
If your Texas, with Shaka Smart going one and done, plus his lack of success the previous the previous 3-4 years.......Now is their best chance to cut bait and go after Beard before IU scoops him up. Texas is supposedly Beards dream job, if your Texas wouldn't you jump on that?
-
Really would not be shocked if Texas moves off Shaka Smart and goes all in on Beard since it is his supposed 'dream job'.
-
For what it's worth, Mike Woodson NBA head coaching record (316-345). With all do respect for an IU great......I hope he's not the hire!
-
Yeah I think it came from what he was hearing on Peegs......May have been around possibility of Mike Woodson, but not sure?
-
IUwins0708: "Brace yourself for a major letdown and I mean major. Unbelievable"

-
Have you guys not seen the cryptic message by 0708 on the Brad Stevens links? I will try to post it here......
-
Sorry I was wrong, Thad Matta's overall win % is actually .740 Look at his Wikipedia page and look at all his deep Tourney runs, plus he's only 53 years old!!!
-
I would as well....go look at his .723 winning % and al his deep Tourney runs!!!!
-
Do we really want to go down that mid major rabbit hole again?????? The last 2 have not worked out!
-
EXACTLY.....He's a Texas guy, all family from Texas. Sources say Texas is his dream job. We would constantly be looking over our shoulders.
