I am now officially a fan of IU... and anyone playing the Celtics!

Yeah... but he's never won less than 20 games and has NBA experience. He's not my top choice, but I think he could crush in recruiting and would do really well at IU.

From the Purdue board: "But we can officially take Stevens' name off the board....even though it was never really on the board in the first place." "Whoever they get if it isn’t Beard, Stevens etc. the grumbling from Southern Indiana trailers parks will be hilarious." "Financially IU can't afford a name coach. Realistically they can't afford not to hire a name coach." "The idea that an established elite coach would leave his safe already strong well paid program to try to put out a dumpster fire is hilarious." "That is not a shot at you. It is a shot at IU fans fantasizing that they are still a big deal." As a childhood IU fan, Brad should come here just to watch the meltdown in real time within the Purdue fandom.

Yeah, we killed it.. It had a tendency of going down after really, really bad losses this past year(and the two Iowa wins, if memory serves). But Archie being fired seems to have done irreparable damage to the website... which I didn't even know was possible?

Man, if you really want to get angry go to the R/Collegebasketball threads(Reddit) and read what other fans are saying about our coaching search. No one wants to believe that we can be good again and they think it is utterly ridiculous that we would even think we might have a shot at Brad. "Indiana basketball reminds me of Tennessee football in that they think they have way more pulling power than they actually have" "Indiana is a job for someone who wants to take the risk of being a basketball god, at the potential cost of getting fired for only winning the conference." And my personal favorite.... " At the end of the day I think you get Beilein, Musselman or Pikiell but that doesn't mean you've got your person to agree to it yet. "

So if that is to be believed, that will make for a very long and painful next 2.5 months or so. Unless it was somehow announced prior to the end of the NBA season with the expectation that Brad will coach out the remainder of the year with the Celtics, though that seems far fetched.

I could see Beilein being really good... but I could also see it going very poorly. If it were to take him 3-4 years to rebuild us he would be 72 years old or so. Not many coaches continue into their mid 70's and so I think its reasonable to expect that he would bring in a top assistant(be it Fife, Cheaney, Smart, whoever) as the head coach in waiting. But what happens if Beilein isn't as successful as we would hope? Does the top assstiant still get the job? Or do we look elsewhere yet again? I don't know, but if it were my money, I would much prefer someone like Beard, Drew, Musselman, or Oats who we could expect would stay for a long time if successful. Every time we change coaches its a gamble despite how much of a "sure thing" the hire is(as we have seen over the last 4 years). Hiring Beilein means hiring another coach within the next decade which is just more increased risk.

8:45ish mark of the latest Assembly Call podcast he says that he was told by a friend of Scott Drew’s that him coming to IU was extremely unlikely. Who knows.

I don’t particularly want Beilein, even if it includes a top assistant as head coach in waiting. I’d be open to Matta if he is physically okay. I want Oats, Musselman, Beard or of course our Great White Buffalo. FWIW, Rick Bozich claims he was told Scott Drew is “extremely unlikely”. Make of that what you will.
