Candidate Thread: Brad Stevens (Boston Celtics)
cybergates replied to Hovadipo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
He sure sounds conflicted/confused/something saying... we're going through a tough season, and I think that it's not my job to not go through it. It's not my job to not make sure I'm doing everything I can to help find a better version of ourselves this year. Not my job to not go through it? What is his job? Not my job to not make sure I'm doing everything I can to help find a better version of ourselves this year? What is his job? Only this year? I think it's over, but this does sound odd. It's not my job to not understand what he's not saying or not though. -

Jay Wright. He's got 2 more NCAA titles than BS or anyone else on our list. -

Makes me a bit sad I got banned over there. All I did was post "Glad you were wrong?" on some Fire Painter threads they had a ton of at the beginning of their Elite 8 season a few weeks back when I saw all these Painter is the best, IU fans are delusional for wanting to get rid of Archie, we'd always support our coach, yadda yadda...oops. -

If he wants to leave not much they can counter with: Money? If he's leaving its not for more money, so more money wouldn't get him to stay. (More) GM power? That hasn't worked out well for most dual coach/GMs historically Ownership? Cool, but really just more money in the end I think this is the least of our worries. -

Drew is my #3 behind Wright and Stevens. Since Wright isn't even being mentioned as a candidate, he's closer to #2. -

SIAP HSN transplant here. Didn't know until yesterday that BS's dad played FB at IU on the Rose Bowl team. Looking into that led me to this article from 4 years ago: https://www.cantonrep.com/sports/20170421/boston-celtics-coach-has-roots-in-stark-county Couple of quotes that stood out to me: In the early 1980s, when most 5-year-olds spent their mornings watching Bugs Bunny or Scooby Doo, Brad Stevens would watch taped basketball games before going to afternoon kindergarten. “I remember (later) he had a tape of the 1987 IU (national) championship basketball game and he literally wore that tape out,” said his father, Mark Stevens, a 1966 graduate of Hoover High School. He literally watched our last NCAA championship game so many times that he wore it out. Incredible fandom. “He always turned them (NBA teams) down because whenever he talked to his college coach from DePauw, Bill Fenlon, he’d say, ‘Stay at Butler. It’s not the Celtics calling,’” Mark said. “When Danny Ainge called on July 4, 2013, it was like, ‘My god, it is the Celtics.’” This leads me to believe he isn't the NBA lifer that some suggest. He didn't take any NBA job, he only took a premiere one. Doesn't sound like a guy who wants to be a retread coaching multiple NBA teams over his career if it doesn't work out in Boston. He's a smart enough guy that can see that is a possibility and if it happens when the IU job isn't open, what does he do? That's why he has to consider and decide on the IU job this time around since things aren't going as well as they were for him 4 years ago. -

Does the leprechaun wear #44? When I read the 1st post I LOL'd because I thought you were referring to Archie as the leprechaun - he brought it all together by being hired when BS wasn't ready, and did bad enough to get fired when he (hopefully) is.
