Talented for sure. Don't think he'd make people who want better shooting (myself included) very happy though :) -

Yup. I'd say they are targeting that player you described in Hickman. If they can land him, we'd really be cooking then. -

You end up like Purdue with a team of guys who can only shoot well and nothing else though. UConn exposed the hell out of them. Rice is a fantastic pick up. You can still think we need more shooting. But getting a building block player, 1st team all conference and freshman of the year... I'll take that talent and bet on him to have good improvement next year -
Hard to not gush about this guy. Happy he is a Hoosier.

I'd also prefer Conwell. Hickman I think we need to prioritize regardless. He's not the same prospect as Conwell or Rice IMO but he could still be a very good player. He's got 3 more years of eligibility so who knows. I'm not gonna be mad about the pick up if it actually happens -

Karaban played 28 mins last year, so did Newton. They lost their big 3 of Sanogo, Hawkins, and Jackson. They lost “Joey California” to graduation but retained Samson Johnson and Hassan Diarra who were key bench pieces on both teams. They replaced him and Alleyne (who transferred) with Cam Spencer, a graduate transfer (probably the best pick up in last year’s portal) and Castle, a 5 star freshman. Clingan was also a bench player on the first year’s team who took on a much larger role on this year’s team. So they replaced the production of that big 3 guys with a rotation of 2 guys who played a ton on both teams, 1 guy who took on a bigger role for the second team, and 2 guys who played key bench roles on both. A graduate transfer and a 5 star freshman. They did add a lot of other guys to their roster but they didn’t really play a ton. Jaylin Stewart and Youssouf Singare will be names to remember for next year, as will Solomon Ball -

And part of why UConn was able to run those complex sets was because they had good continuity from last year's roster. You're not going to be able to install something like that IMO with a group of 5ish new rotation players in just one offseason. -

I'd like to think the idea is that, if we get Ballo, we'll see Reneau being able to step outside more to stretch the floor, Ballo cleaning up the glass on missed 3s with some crashing and some getting back on D. I think we'll see a combination of that and the buddy ball we're used to in the paint, which we'll see about... Malik's passing is not really there yet, but maybe it gets better this offseason. Depending on how much leash we give to shoot 3s and how good we are at making them (any chance for Rice, Carlyle, AND Hickman?) the offense is less of my concern than the defense. I assume Conwell is a no if we have Rice and Carlyle both younger and needing minutes. Hickman maybe more likely though since he has just 1 year and is transferring up a level/buddies with Leal, etc.? Let's hope... I think to me, he would be the difference between a good and a great haul, along with whoever the back up four is (again this is all counting eggs before they hatch in Ballo, Rice, Carlyle). -

Eh. Karaban is a shooter. Reneau is a post scorer. Both are questionable defenders. Malik averaged more rebounds, assists, points, on better FG% Reneau showed the ability to step out and knock down 3s this year, if he expands that part of his game and gets better at passing out of the post, he would be way more "dynamic" IMO than Karaban who is more of a system passer in their offense than a playmaking, creative passer you'd call dynamic. Karaban is a good player, great in their system, but he looks better because of where he plays IMO. -

Carlyle dropped 28 on Arizona on 7/13 shooting from the field and 8-8 from the FT line. Career high 31 on Washington State shot 56% from the field and 60% from 3 22 vs Oregon State. Bunch of other games in double figures. Not sure how he holds up on defense but I don't think the offense is what we worry about with Carlyle as a sophomore. -

Again, I ask, are you unable to read? I will go back to ignoring you but you just continuously show yourself to be a troll. You probably shout at the top of your lungs in restaurants or play videos on your phone on full blast. Time and a place for everything... this is not the place, nor the time. Plenty of other threads for it. Refer to the video linked above please

I don't get why some people have to try and argue at this point. Peoples minds are made up and won't be changed until next season at some point. The discourse on swaths of twitter is much more up the alley of people who think landing some portal talent instantly means we're going to be good or warrants taunting fans who *gasp* dared to be skeptical/critical after a subpart year where the staff totally mismanaged the roster and messaging about it. Hopefully they learned from their mistakes and have a great portal haul, then kick butt next year. Just because many fans were rightfully doubtful that this staff could pull it off, does not mean they're any less legitimate fans... just had a different idea what's best for the program. Everyone wants IU to win. Bizarre seeing people absolutely golly, giddy, pi$$ing with glee at the idea of "holding fans accountable." Mike Woodson made it this way. Shaq said it best.

Seems pretty convinced what other people think and feel... "Holding them [fans] accountable" Lol. GFY buddy

Hickman is visiting soon right? The more I think about it the more I want him. -
My group of ignored users has gotten pretty long this offseason. I might take Steub off the naughty list soon though. :)

No offense to Payton Sparks, who I think the fans still like/support and really wanted to work out... But maybe Elijah Malone could be who we hoped we were getting this year. Albeit in a fairly small role (hopefully IMO) -

I agree terribly unlikely. Hopefully Carlyle and Rice, if they are who we ultimately land, can grow that part of their game. I like what I see for the most part. Do you think it would be any more realistic to hope for Hickman instead of Conwell? -
Yep... wish him the best of luck in that case. Would be best for everyone IMO. He'd do pretty good at a place like Dayton. Maybe he gets a shot at ND if he wants to stay in a major conference... I appreciate his supposed work ethic and all but I don't think he should be more than 10th/11th man on next years team if we're actually to be competitive.

The idea that Woodson critics did not think he'd be able to land some good players in the portal is unequivocally false. In fact I'd say it's widely expected that he will land a good starting 5 considering the core has returned (and that NIL we've heard about) How many portal additions are needed is subjective, apparently, and how good the final group is... remains to be seen. Lot of people celebrating. Yes landing Ballo Carlyle and Rice would be a phenomenal start to the portal. IMO, we need at least one more guard/perimeter defender/shooter. Then a back up big. Maybe Cupps hits the portal in which case you fill that spot no matter what. Assume we'll be moving onto 2nd and 3rd tier prospects on the staffs preferred list after the initial wave of visits. We'll see how it shakes out. Then we'll see how how they look next year. Not going to be any time for a learning curve.
