If he has to leave, I'd obviously much rather him go to ND than PU. Think he'd fit Shrews' system pretty well.

It's so miserable for a northeast IU fan to take crap from PSU and RU fans over BASKETBALL of all things. Rock bottom doesn't begin to describe it.

Easily could be wrong, but I get the sense this is the game where things really go off the rails and what we're pretty much all hoping for becomes inevitable.

I don't even think Alford is all that and not trying to stir the pot... But could you imagine if we hired him as the HC and Woody as an assistant (which he has plenty of experience in)? Alford could handle being on the road, and Woody could play his "closer" role once they're on campus and sell his NBA background, etc. Sure Alford isn't a world-beater by any means, but way better college coach than Woody. And if he had some better talent here? Who knows... So ready to close the book on this chapter it feels like the rest of this season will take forever.

Very well said. The only way a failed experiment becomes a disaster, is if it's not identified as a failed experiment soon enough. Retire after the season and most people will be able to accept that it just didn't work out. Another season of this though? Much of the current and future generations of fans will probably have fairly unfavorable memories of him IMO

Woody has made several comments about "maybe I'm in these guys heads" and the pressure, etc. I'm sure to your point, some of that pressure he mentions is about the fans. But he's also talked about "still learning these guys" ... We've talked ad nauseam about the roster construction. One aspect of that which we haven't discussed, is how the spring/portal approach may be impacting his ability to form a deep connection with these kids and hence why they sometimes seem scared out there and more often than not look very confused. Don't disagree, of course players take some of the blame - they're the ones out there. As Woody says, "I can't make shots for them." Maybe that's the problem......

I really do like the point of view that you bring to the board and I know people have been hard on you pretty much all season. Credit for sticking with your guns I guess. I even agree with the premise of your post that they were responding to... but being condescending/dismissive like this toward someone who sees things differently is not going to make things less adversarial when it comes to defending your own view... if you can dish it out, don't complain when others serve you your helping.

This has been said a few times. IDK. Pearl may want that and IU could certainly agree that it's a possibility. But anointing his son wouldn't be a sure thing. And even if IU did agree to it in principle... there is precedent for those kinds of arrangements not actually being followed through. It's not enough of a concern for me to call it a red flag because we hold all the cards. IU decides who the head coach will be, not the outgoing coach.

That would certainly be an ideal scenario, but timing almost never works out so perfectly. I do worry we'd regret the opportunity cost of not locking up Dusty, but I think given the state of the program, you need a proven guy who's done it before at this level like Pearl (if you're making the move this offseason that is).

It's a good point that happening in the B10 could be enough for him to not get the chance. Only thing I'd add is to your last sentence... once BP did that, I'm sure he became public enemy #1 for a lot of coaches who were quite happy looking for an opportunity to return the favor and give Bruce a taste of his own medicine. Yes it was a cheap move by him/Iowa, but personally it doesn't bother me that much.

Hope we start using some clock. Not stalling, but getting through several options on our plays to make sure we're only taking good shots.
