We are about to find out how effective Scott is as a political operative. IMO, as a rookie AD, QB and co were able strong arm Dolson into the hire they wanted. He's probably learned a lot in the 3 years since then, as evidenced by his savvy move on Allen and seemingly strong hire in Cignetti. I am hoping that Dolson feels burnt about being bullied into/convinced of a hire he presumably never wanted to make and has spent ample time since then thinking about how he will make his move when the time is right. Obviously it's not all up to him but I still have hope knowing we've got someone in our corner fighting for us. Trilly has even joked that we have an awful lot of characters to keep track of at IU and how we have so many cooks in the kitchen. He's going to need a mod for the IU section soon lol

Someone needs to save these guys from themselves. Lol goodness gracious
-
And given Buckner's connections to big money donors/Corp executives/pro basketball, that retaliation could extend into your personal life if you really cross him. I think that's the implicit danger people fear.
-
In the football threads, yes

From the little bit I've gathered about Dolson, he seems well experienced at the shaking hands and kissing babies/fundraising side of things. If it's a dog fight between Scott and Quinn, I have no choice but to hope like hell that Scott can bite back. Quinn's got a lot of bark but being out after next year how much bite can he be packing? Dolson will need to finesse this masterfully

Maybe all the Bruce Pearl talk was a QB psy-op to distract us from the obvious candidate in May long enough for him to go elsewhere and lock up a 4th year of Woody when this should be a very straightforward change to make. Mainly joking of course lol
-
A lot of the appeal in a Woody tenure was "bridging" the old and the new IU... what a shame for his tenure to basically flame out in a struggle between the two.
-
All in on Dolson for this power struggle. We're all counting on you Scott!!!
-
If you are the religious type, prayers for Scott Dolson to work a miracle would be appreciated.
-
If Woody is still the coach after 5pm on the Monday after the BTT I'm assuming he will be coaching next year. Let's hope it does not come to that.
-
The Scott Drew to UofL talk does not seem serious per TD
-
Gonna be tough watching Malik on Bama of Florida next year. I'll root for him... hope like hell we can keep him.
-
You could tell they didn't want to shoot a 3 for fear of being yelled at all year long. This staff doesn't know what they are doing and the players all can see that. To give CMW a year 4 is to basically play pick up basketball with a mish mashed roster. No thank you. I am hopeful Woodson can get comfortable with the idea of retiring.
-
Trilly dropped minor update into the discord. Nothing we didn't know. But if Woodson stays, expect "some serious" player movement on the roster
-
UConn fans are starting a petition for Cam Spencer to get one more year because he only played 5 games during the COVID year then got injured. They apparently denied his request, not sure how the appeals process goes. I don't want to see that kid playing CBB next year.
-
Could be wrong but I read that he wanted to go all in on Dylan Harper. Even more ridiculous because he was all RU from the start and even basically trolled us with his visit pictures by copying the poses his brother would hit against us in games during his photo shoot lol. This just solidifies to me his recruiting is literally all about chasing stars and rankings.
-
Yeah, a good college coach/recruiter would take the opportunity to point out a few things they observed and give advice on how to handle certain game situations or drills to work on to improve a weakness that was being exploited. That helps build trust and show genuine interest. They definitely don't just watch a bad game from a highly rated recruit the staff has prioritized and say "nah I'm good actually. He's not close enough to being a pro yet"
-
Yeah, it depends on what you'd value. If Dusty really wants to be a great basketball coach, it's definitely not appealing because of all those strings attached. But if he's open minded to doing something similar to Brad Stevens... LeBron is a pretty good contact to land you in a cushy NBA FO role some day. We'll see what happens!
-
If I'm Dusty May and LeBron is actually lobbying to get me in at Ohio State, send his son to play for me, and make donations contingent on me being hired... I am walking to Columbus and don't care about the obvious strings that will be attached. LeBron could completely transform Dusty's world, boost his stature, and create tons of opportunities... inside and outside of basketball. Easy call IMO. Considering it's apparently a tough pitch for many donors to replace an IUBB legend with a former manager... and Pearl is probably just using us for leverage... Year 4 with Woody looks very likely right now. Hopefully the wind is blowing in the opposite direction soon...
-
The fact that Dolson is clearly not laying down without a fight gives me hope. Other than that, I don't have much in the way of hope for IUBB right now. Let's get it done Scott! Hoosier Nation is rooting for you lol

We are not allowed to post content from premium sites I think. I elaborated in my next post.

I don't think any influential people are reading those boards, but I do think that type of chatter helps shape the narrative for the more casual fans (which these donors/alum, etc. most likely fall into that category). I think right now, I agree with how you see it playing out ultimately.
-
I don't subscribe to Peegs but from what I am reading on Trilly's discord, sounds like Woody "didn't jump in and that ultimately screwed him" ... not sure exactly what they mean by jumping in. But people are pointing out he was prioritizing Dylan Harper earlier in the cycle. Dylan Harper who was ALWAYS going to Rutgers. This recruiting strategy is so broken. If he is back next year we need to create a GM role as soon as the season ends and let them "own" the 2025+ recruiting plan.
-
Sounds like Rabby just added a note on the Fland recruitment that will make some peoples blood boil. A lot of people on Trilly's discord are speculating Dolson must have asked Rabby to unload on Woody.

(2024) PF - Derik Queen to Maryland
Home Jersey replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Willard pulled out all the stops for this one! Trilly Donovan — Today at 3:20 PM Maryland head coach Kevin Willard is expected to hire Team Thrill AAU founder Donnell “Mookie” Dobbins as an assistant coach, per source.
