    Fred Glass Retiring

He did. If Allen goes 5-7 next year then Fred Glass was sold fools gold with his 7 year extension of him. I’m still bullish on IUFB. I’m not really a CFB fan so maybe I’m just uninformed. TBD Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

While I agree with you on Fred Glass, I thought Allen did an okay job putting the team in a position to win. We make the PaT or field goal and it’s a different ball game. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

IUBB vs Arkansas 12/29 @ 6 pm BTN

From the Hoosier Hysterics podcast with Brian Snow, he basically says the Athletic administration/ Fred Glass are so unbelievably clueless on what it takes to win at an elite level and how to build a sustainable culture so that you can hire a coach and not be in the rebuilding phase. Says that’s why Holtmann and Mack are successful, because their ADs set up a program to win from day one. And that’s why every time we hire a coach it’s a 3 to 4 year rebuild. From the pod, Indiana would do things to shoot them selves in the foot with buy games, locker rooms, meals, etc. they didn’t even have a practice schedule under crean. It sounds like it’s comical how poor the basketball program was ran both under Crean and Fred Glass. I’m not necessarily in the boat that McRobbie is the biggest issue. I always thought it was Fred Glass. With his retirement it opens up the door for some real change. Then when McRobbie retires after next year the door is blown open. One theory I have is that Fred Glass retired this year rather than next so that McRobbie could choose his successor, I.e. Dolson so that he could keep everything status quo. Seriously tho. Why is Arkansas not in a 3 year rebuild and IU is.Arkansas has a first year coach whose team is coming off an NIT season, No starter above 6'7", and only go about 7 or 8 deep. Archie inherited a decent enough team to make the tournament in Year 1. All he had to do was beat Ft. Wayne (we lost by 20), Indiana State (we lost by 21) and Rutgers (we lost by 7) you win those 3 games and we make the tournament. In year two all he needed to do was to beat Northwestern, and Rutgers and we probably make the tournament. I get that APR may have hurt our ability to bring in transfers in year one, and maybe compliance. but why is IU desperately trying to figure out which way is up 13 games into the season 3. IMO we still don't have an identity, and the next two years we do not seem to be a final four contender. Like why is it so hard at IU?

I didn't realize it was that bad. If there was a pie chart on why we aren't landing our top players, how much is because of Archie? i.e. terrible offensive sets and pack line defense first attitude. And how much of it is IU's compliance department and or facilities handcuffing Archie?

I get what you are saying. I'm disappointed we've not had success outside the state. But at least he's getting the likes of Romeo and TJD when they are available. The issue is is that both were the best players on a bad Indiana team. We desperately need shooters and talent.

  9. southernindianahoosier2

So can we talk about player development?

Indiana started the season 35th in Kenpom and now sit at 40th. Not seeing much development or progress this season.

Lol my point is why wait 2 more years? Take this year and next to find our guy, hire him and move on from Archie. Find a way to pay the new coach $8m a year Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

Yes but IU may not be better next year or the year after. It may not be be reasonable to fire Archie unless we have a replacement. But I doubt Archie lasts 2 more full seasons of this Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

It least everyone agrees that we need to schedule a nationally relevant and televised game. I’d take UK or any of the other ones people are mentioning Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

IU vs Notre Dame 12/21 Noon ESPN

I mean you weigh the costs vs. benefits. To me UK is a much bigger rivalry than PU. Again I think 3 of IU's top 5 best/ most exciting games over the last 11 years have been against UK. I think the national exposure, fan engagement, ability to play a rivalry game, chance to beat UK, improvement of the SOS, and its impact on our NCAA seeding, etc. far outweigh the monetary concessions given up for playing at a neutral site. The NCAA seems to put IU and UK in the same bracket in the tournament every year we've made it and will continue to do so. I know that if we play during the regular season, it limits which round IU can face UK (at least I think). The rumor on campus of why we got rid of the IU UK game was because UK wanted to play at Lucas Oil and IU didn't want to give UK the national exposure and in-state exposure to potential recruits, which is short sighted, like how did we have so little faith in our program at that time that we were scared of UK.

IU vs Notre Dame 12/21 Noon ESPN

I like the fact that it gives IU a strong non-conference game on a neutral site. I also like that its a neutral site game in December, while the students are not on campus. I also like that IU Purdue, Butler, and ND fans all get a chance to see each other play in Indy. I went to the game this year, btw. I don't like the IU is the biggest draw, yet we may only get an even split of the $$. I also don't like that it limits IU's ability to schedule. It seems like all the positives are also benefit every other program in the classic. Honestly the 3 of the best games IU's played in the last 11 years have been the games against UK. I would be complaining less if we still played UK. and I think as an AD if your options are to play UK on a neutral site or not play at all, you play them on the moon if you have to.

IU vs Notre Dame 12/21 Noon ESPN

I don't know why we just cant play IU vs. ND every year in Bankers Life. Or IU and Butler home and home. Seems to be ways to give indiana fans a chance without going through the crossroads classic.

With 14 members of the committee, I'd expect the Abilene Paradox to occur. In the Abilene paradox, a group of people collectively decide on a course of action that is counter to the preferences of many or all of the individuals in the group.[1][2] It involves a common breakdown of group communication in which each member mistakenly believes that their own preferences are counter to the group's and, therefore, does not raise objections. A common phrase relating to the Abilene paradox is a desire not to "rock the boat". This differs from groupthink in that the Abilene paradox is characterized by an inability to manage agreement.[3] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abilene_paradox

I hope that the right decision is made via this group. But that seems like a like of bureaucrats. I worry that there's too many cooks in the kitchen to make a bold or correct decision, whichever decision that may be. Does anyone know if a committee like this is usual? As in the number of people and the fact that some are current coaches? In your opinion is Scott Dolson the best choice compared to the other two candidates thrown around (Chris Reynolds and Pat Kraft)? Is Scott Dolson Fred Glass 2.0?

Honest question for those on the board. Removing Cook Hall (as that was Greenspan’s project). What would you grade Fred Glass’s impact on the basketball program only from 2009-2019? Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

Lol I am not a parody of Gradman. I was born in 1990 and wasn’t a fan of IUBB until I went to school there in 2009-2010. I was the first person in my family to go to IU. So pardon my lack of knowledge from when I was 3 years old and growing up in a family that didn’t care for IUBB. Both my brothers went to UofL and my brother is friends with Jurich’s daughter, hints my Jurich connection and why I’m so high on him. I also have met Fred Glass many times and I’m telling you, when compared to Jurich it’s night and day. I am a huge fan, I’m just absolutely frustrated with the last 11 years of IUBB. I have disliked Crean as a coach and I disliked FG as an AD, I also dislike McRobbie as a president. I can’t deny that Fred took over a failing athletic department and brought us up to the 21st century. However, I wanted to see us go above and beyond what other schools have done. At this point, what I believe sets IUBB apart from other programs is our history and in state talent, not facilities. I think that now that the foundation is set, the next AD can really shine. Being a fan of IUBB and wanting to see Iu accomplish more are not mutually exclusive. I go to the Reservoir bar in NYC most games so if anyone would like to meet up in person to discuss IUBB I’d be happy to do so. Like I’ve said in the past, I think we missed on Holtmann and I would love to have Chris Beard. But I’m not rooting for Iu to lose. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

I'm happy he is retiring. In my opinion, he never really had an original thought in regards to anything he did at IU (WTF on the bill of rights). All of the athletic capital projects in my opinion are average and not above and beyond and pushing the limits. However, IU was a mess when he took over. I think he's set up the next IU AD really nicely to take IU to the next level, a level that he was never able to achieve himself.
