General Coach Candidate News

But the can gets kicked to next year. We make the S16, then we stay in limbo for another year after that. Next thing you know, its 2023 and then we're in a complete rebuild again with a new coach. -

I don't know of one player that's developed under Archie, so maybe transferring to a coach with a good history of development wouldn't be a bad idea. -

Lol not bashing Archie or the administration here, just asking a serious question. Does landing big recruits like this save Archie for 2 more years? I worry because I felt like Crean was on his last leg but then Thomas Bryant signed and all of a sudden Tom Crean was way off the hot seat from the administration perspective. Although I realize we then won the Big10 and made a S16 with TB, the writing was on the wall for TC. ... I also realize IU could win 4 games the BTT then make an elite 8 run or something this year and its a moot point. My thought is that you don't base whether or not a coach gets an extension based on a single recruit. Ideally if "Its Indiana" the player would still come even if a coaching change as long as the coaching change was great. -

There was an unbelievable article on him in GQ a few years ago. Really details on how he made a FF, then the wheels came off, and then he had to pretty much reinvent the way he coached/looked at thing,/approached recruiting, leading to him winning 2 national championships... The coach Wright that went to the first final four and the coach that won the national titles were basically two different coaches, from his own perspective that is. -

I wonder if we had gotten rid of Crean in ‘15 what would have happened. Better yet, what if we hired Alford in 08 after Sampson Probably would have still ended up with Archie if we fired Crean in ‘15, or Shaka and we’d be looking for a replacement this year or last. Seems like the right thing to do isn’t to keep a coach based on incoming recruits (Zeller, Thomas Bryant) and cut bait when you have a body of work and see the inner workings of the program Thank god Glass is leaving IU Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -

Did Archie think that without JS we couldn't be a bubble team losing to Michigan by 24 in February? If that's the case, why couldn't they just bring in another JR grad transfer that had 2 years left? If he has a toxic attitude and is constantly complaining, I get that giving him what he wants could help change his attitude, but it clearly didn't work... so make him transfer at the semester. Unless he's like physically abusive or a bully.. I guess I don't understand how one person could be so unbelievably toxic that it causes the whole team to miss the tourney. -

Could be lack of ability to communicate with their coach. If they don't have an outlet to have an open discussion, or if Archie doesn't press some of the more sensitive players to open up, players could get passive and shut down. Could also be a classic case of self sabotage by the player(s) in order to punish their coach. Just like the kid in school who gets F's to punish their teachers and parent. -

I'm just saying that I'd be upset if I had to play in a defense that wasn't working. It must be frustrating. Not removing the blame from those who play in the system. But the system doesn't seem to be working, seems that players aren't buying in. Not sure what examples can be provided on what problems JS would be causing. -

So Out of D Green, D Davis, A Durham, and Justin Smith, I would have guessed the first two were the problems. We have two open Schollys plus all four of these could not return. so 6 spots in theory. What is the program doing? How much of this is that they don't like the system and Archie? or what's been the issue for two years that the coach hasn't been able to solve. I'd be upset too if I had to play in a pack line defense that gives up almost 90 pts to Wisconsin and Michigan. -

I think what 007 is saying, and maybe i'm wrong here. Is that Fred takes the donations and uses them to fund the most needed projects first, and then scrambles to fund (at a later date) what the original donation is intended for. Not unlike a ponzi scheme. -

So from what I'm reading. The University is showcasing Fred Glass' achievements which are: Increasing revenues every year as the AD Substantial capital improvement projects More donated to the Athletic department than ever before Best women's BBall team, baseball team, etc. Student Athlete Bill of Rights being revolutionary In reality: increasing revenues every year as the AD Revenues have increase at probably the same clip/proportion as every other power 5 school under the same time frame; however, the Athletic Department is possibly completely broke and is now borrowing from all over campus... Potentially leaving no cash on hand in the event have to buy out a coach. Substantial capital improvement projects Substantial Capital improvement projects were originally ushered in by Greenspan and Glass followed his lead and has kept in line or below the competition in the building arms race in college sports. With some arguing that we're already behind again. Again possibly no cash on hand to make improvements if we need them. More donated to the Athletic department than ever before Although I appreciate the donations, I'm not sure spending $40m on luxury suites in AH was the best choice considering the athletic department's cash balance. Becoming almost completely reliant on donations to support our sports teams. Best women's BBall team, baseball team, etc. Greenspan hired Tracy Smith and I'm sure would have built a new baseball stadium. Kudo's to Fred for getting other sports in respectable positions. Student Athlete Bill of Rights being revolutionary Fred was a first mover and literally not one other school followed him. This is not a good look. So from 2009-2020 Fred Glass has done WHAT that any other AD hasn't done? Seems like he's leaving a possibly broke athletic department with its premier athletic team decimated and on the verge of collapsing into oblivion. missing 7 out of 11 possible tournaments and the last 4. I'm sure he's leaving thinking he's a hero, but could completely be a villain. a la Robert Moses when he died. This is where Inside the Hall should come in and write the reality of the athletic situation. I get not getting a press pass... but good lord we need someone to tell the fans the truth. *Maybe its possible they're borrowing money to get a cash stockpile to buyout Archie and to get their guy, but I find that hard to believe given the AD's recent track record* -
