    Name, Image & Likeness (NIL)

What are the letters on his jersey? It certainly doesn't look like an E, S, or M. It looks much more like an S and G (perhaps for shooting guard???). I only ask because if those are supposed to be an E and an S for Excel Sports, then they are not excelling at making logos which are legible.

    Big Ten Coaches Likeability

Tom Izzo is by far the most unlikeable coach in the Big Ten. And maybe it’s because I have to witness his BS more closely than coaches in other conferences (or maybe because he is just such a complete douchenozzle), but he’s by far my least favorite coach in college basketball. There are others I can’t stomach across the country, but I sincerely despise Tom Izzo. He is the epitome of a whine-a** baby and he consistently claims every loss is a result of someone else’s fault (or his one injured reserve is why his team lost to another team with four starters out). I can’t stand him! He also just comes off as a slime ball (along with the administration and athletics department at MSU in general) for secretly trying to sweep nastiness under the rug. I would put Painter as one of my favorite coaches in the BigTen because he can flat out coach and has been on fire on the recruiting trail lately. He finds talent, but he also seems to develop talent. He also is seemingly humble and will take blame when it’s appropriately placed on him and he gives credit to other team’s players and coaches when his team gets defeated. He is the polar opposite of Tom Izzo. I have no idea where I would put the others.
  3. I hope he had the option too, and I would bet he did. It could be the number (and talent) of incoming/returning guards making him want to leave, but I can also see him eyeballing a great Masters Degree someplace with a strong program in his field of interest. There’s life after basketball. He seems like a smart kid, and with all the injuries he has dealt with, I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s looking for a specific graduate program for academics. IU has great programs, and I’m not sure what his area of study is, but he seems to have his head on straight and could be looking for specific academic opportunities (and a chance at more playing time) elsewhere. Dane is gone and he was the man building Rob up as the best defender in the conference, but Woody was also seemingly behind Rob 100%. So, I doubt it has as much to do with coaching relationships or decisions as it does with playing time…or like I said, academic opportunities (which people sometimes fail to consider). He could surely find more playing time at a smaller school with an exceptional Masters program in his area of interest. I think it’s a smart move by Rob and I hope he excels wherever he ends up.

(2023) - PG Gabe Cupps to INDIANA

I’m going to assume they just failed to count up the fouls, just as they forgot to add up his minutes played. I can’t imagine Cupps went all season without committing a single foul. GREAT 50% fg; 44% 3pt fg; 85% ft EXCELLENT Nearly 7-1 assist to turnover ratio
  5. Not sure if this was linked elsewhere, but it was a nice confidence-boosting read for this fan. And, yes, it was likely written by one of the many who originally said IU would be knocked out by Wyoming (so many like to make their predictions and then change their tunes as things unfold). https://www.ncaa.com/news/basketball-men/article/2022-03-16/why-indiana-first-four-team-most-likely-go-run-2022-ncaa-mens-basketball?amp
  6. Indiana loses the first round game to Michigan by a score of 87-86 in triple overtime with a half-court heave at the end of regulation by Ian Burns and Indiana’s March Madness hopes vanish. Purdue wins the B10 tournament and is granted a #1 seed. They then lose to UMBC in the first-round with a UMBC-like thumping comparable to the one against Virginia in 2018. Some Indiana fans try to find solace in this to get them through the long offseason, while others throw their hands up with a loss of hope that Woody will ever get Indiana back to prominence. I chug a six-pack of 450 Nugs and try to remember the long-lost days of believing Indiana is the team to beat on any given night.
  7. Since I dislike Wisconsin, and because their remaining game is against Nebraska, I want to see them get beat by Purdue. Since I dislike Purdue, I then want Indiana to beat Purdue and spoil their number one seed. And, while all this is happening, Illinois beats Penn State and Iowa and knocks Wisconsin off the top perch (as they have the tie-breaker against Wisconsin). I don't care for Illinois, but I like them much better than Wisconsin. Just for clarity, I despise Michigan State more than any other.

(2023) - PG Gabe Cupps to INDIANA

I think he’s going to be very easy to root for. This article and the way he answers the interviewer’s questions indicates a high level of pride, confidence, and intelligence. It seems evident he has the winner’s mentality and the hard work and dedication to make himself and his team better. As a coach’s son, he likely understands the game on a magnified level. I sense his willingness to listen and respect what the leadership believes is best for himself and his team is genuine and he will be very coachable. And, he already sees himself as a leader on and off the court. There’s nothing to dislike about his attitude towards the game of basketball, and his deep love for the game is apparent in the way he recognizes, respects, understands, and admires the state’s infatuation with the game…as well as the Indiana program as a whole. I’m glad he’ll be a Hoosier. I think Indiana is getting a player who will dedicate himself to making his and Woodson’s dream of bringing IU back to prominence more likely. He seems like a program changer, even if it’s not from his on-court abilities. He just has the right attitude every program needs in and out of the locker room. That’s my take. Happy and safe holidays, y’all!
  11. This might surprise some of you. Indiana is #40 with 21.9 attempts per game thus far in 2021.. Wisconsin is #121 with 18.9 attempts per game thus far in 2021.. Now, whether the foul shots were earned or given is another story. https://www.teamrankings.com/ncaa-basketball/stat/free-throws-attempted-per-game Free throw attempts per game since the Bo Ryan era (Wisconsin's average - Indiana's average) MOST: 2001-2002 WIS 20.02 IND 19.62 2002-2203 WIS 19.34 IND 23.55 2003-2004 WIS 21.38 IND 18.34 2004-2005 WIS 20.15 IND 20.03 2005-2006 WIS 22.06 IND 16.87 2006-2007 WIS 23.56 IND 18.84 2007-2008 WIS 20.75 IND 23.03 2008-2009 WIS 17.67 IND 18.74 2009-2010 WIS 17.21 IND 22.74 2010-2011 WIS 15.68 IND 19.75 2011-2012 WIS 15.97 IND 23.83 2012-2013 WIS 19.00 IND 25.11 2013-2014 WIS 17.52 IND 24.66 2014-2015 WIS 19.13 IND 19.15 2015-2016 WIS 20.80 IND 19.66 2016-2017 WIS 19.00 IND 20.09 2017-2018 WIS 17.52 IND 20.77 2018-2019 WIS 15.62 IND 19.86 2019-2020 WIS 14.90 IND 15.19 2020-2021 WIS 15.3 IND 23.2 Now, I do realize this is for all games and not just Wisconsin's home games. It would be interesting to see how many shots they took at home vs away during this time span. Maybe I'll crunch those numbers before game time if I find the motivation. But, for now, I thought this was interesting to look at. I think these numbers would look very striking if you looked at home vs away games, but I figured the free throw attempts stats would have favored more for Wisconsin overall throughout most of the seasons listed. Granted, you also must take into account the personnel as to how likely a certain player or a specific team is to be fouled (style of play). And, as stated earlier, this doesn't prove whether the foul shots were earned or given.

It is. And Indiana has not been (85-127 for 66%). I'm still trying to wrap my mind around why Indiana teams have struggled for so long from the line. It's frustrating, and it always makes close games much more nerve wrecking.

I love this answer, when asked what piques his interest in Indiana and talking about Woodson and his staff. I will admit, though, all his answers seem sincere and far from shallow. "I think his purpose of bringing Indiana basketball back on top is one of a kind. It can’t be replicated anywhere else in the country. I just think that’s super intriguing to me.”

(2022) - PF Noah Clowney to Alabama

They're not confident enough to go out on any weaker limbs? Yes, Indiana, Virginia Tech, and Alabama are three of the top contenders...hence the announcement of his short list of finalists, which included all three of those schools. That's like saying, "I'm not sure who will win the Presidential race, but I believe the Democratic candidate and the Republican candidate are in contention". It makes you wish we had folks here with such insider information, doesn't it?

Two things come to mind from the videos in that link. One, I really like this kid's game. Two, that HBA court is atrocious. I'm sure it makes a nice home court advantage, considering all visiting squads would get lost in the endless web of lines on the hardwood. Jeez.

All of which are dwarfed by New Castle's field house, which seats 8,424. That's insane. For fun: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_largest_high_school_gyms_in_the_United_States https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_NCAA_Division_I_basketball_arenas New Castle and Seymour have larger gyms than 227 of the 350 division one college teams.

I agree. Although, I believe the embrace he and his family received (as do other major basketball recruits on visits to Bloomington) was a stern reminder to other schools how high the bar has been set with his visit to Indiana. My best guess is that even if other schools try to upstage such a welcoming, the fans just aren't as hardcore elsewhere as the Indiana community is about basketball. I believe they'll do their best to drum up "extras", but hopefully Noah recognizes the genuine interest IU fans have in him. We shall see. Regardless, I hope they gave equal amounts of love a second time around for Mr Banks.
  20. Yep. Rankings are merely opinions made by people supposedly in the know, but on paper that's one heckuva backcourt.
  21. https://247sports.com/college/indiana/Sport/Basketball/AllTimeRecruits/ If you're not counting Bates, and if you mean the highest rated recruit from out of state who committed, then yes.
  22. As always, thank you for all that you share with us. This kid seems like yet another extremely high-caliber kid (not just athletically) committed to the Hoosiers. I like his personality, seemingly humble and extremely appreciative but simultaneously very much an alpha, and he will be easy to root for...especially if his work ethic is on the level he promised and his leadership is on par with what I expect it will be. I also love he mentioned Yogi, Vic, Thomas, and Romeo. That spans several decades, not just the latest star at IU anyone watching in the past 5 years would be familiar with. He seems excited to be a Hoosier, as he should be, and I'm excited he is too.

"I know they said the bigs do a lot of their scoring, so I think it could be a good opportunity for me as far as scoring the ball." - Noah Clowney on Virginia Tech I realize no one is saying Clowney wouldn't be a part of the offense, but one of the things which apparently stands out to him about Virginia Tech is being a focal point of the offense. However, that certainly doesn't imply it's the most important factor in his decision.
