We have walkons at guard on this team. Convince me they can’t play better than this. -

Our guards are hot garbage tonight. Can’t hit shots, can’t make layups, can’t guard on defense and pass to guys being double teamed. -
He won’t even get the start at LT there. They have their 3 year starter in Alaric Jackson coming back for his RS Senior year so he’ll compete with a couple younger guys for RT including their last year’s LT backup LT, RS sophomore Jack Plumb (who I guarantee you will come to spring camp super pissed and with a chip on his shoulder). It’s a dumb move and honestly it’s whatever but how many Indiana things have to keep happening at IU before we break the mold and become a solid program?
-
How is losing your best offensive lineman and team captain not a big loss? Didn’t expect him to turn his back on IU like this and turn around and play for another team in the BigTen. NFL, Alabama/Clemson/Any other CFB Playoff contender, fine, no one would really begrudge that move...But Iowa?what message does this end to other recruits when we’re trying to build something? Iowa barely competes for Conference titles. Purdue didn’t even recruit him and this is the thanks we get?

I played for Wright my freshman year of HS. He left after that season to take over at Louisville Trinity then Warren Central. He’s a really, really good dude. The kids will absolutely love his attitude and demeanor. Only puzzled by the assignment of tight ends coach as from what little I know about him, as he was never a pass game guy. His offenses featured duel running backs and they ran the ball 75% of the time with wildcat like QBs. Maybe that changed down in Florida but I know he wasn’t well liked at Trinity and Tulsa Union as a result of his running game strategy. Either way, he has all the in state connections one can have and having a close IMG connection should grow into a huge pipeline (or at least one can hope).

I agree and after all the love he was given from the staff, teammates and fans it’s just disappointing to see. I’m looking forward to the days where “Indiana” things stop happening to this program.
-
And that’s fine but why transfer if that’s what he wants? We’re graduating Stepaniak. I read the comment about his “having to change positions if he comes back” as though he doesn’t want to change. The fact of the matter is, he can start at any of the 5 spots and be easily the best on the team at it. We also get OL guys into the league all the time so what’s he gonna get at a place like Alabama other than the possibility of getting beat out?

From my seat Wommack lacks the experience necessary to make in game adjustments and to understand when to bring pressure, when to fall back. Numerous times throughout the season I was left to scratch my head with his decision making in this regard. I agree with you that there’s nothing wrong with his overall scheme but even CTA could be seen ripping into Wommack a couple times during the season for calling dumb packages at key moments. I hope he learns from his mistakes and grows into an excellent DC but I’m sort of frustrated that IU always has to be the destination for the guys on their way out (either via retirement or greener pastures). Otherwise we settle for unproven guys like Wommack and Sheridan and dealing with their limitations and learning curves. That being said, as far as Sheridan is concerned, none of us know how much or how little he was being groomed for this so maybe this was the plan all along and he has some idea of what he’s doing? Either way we need to win now and show we can be a better program than the Purdues and MSUs of the conference or we’ll lose any and all recruiting momentum we ever had and will likely be relegated back to the cellar of the BigTen.
-
I don’t understand this notion that he would have to change positions if he came back. Why? He’s light years ahead of Bedford and Caleb Jones has been an absolute liability at right tackle so put Bedford there and let Jones further develop/add depth since we’re also graduating Love, the backup RT. If Cronk doesn’t want to switch he shouldn’t have to, nor should we want him to.

Northwestern lost their two best players and pulled a guy off the lacrosse team to run their offense. If they had half the talent we did they’d be a top 25 team. Something is missing with Archie. I suspect he’s a one trick pony of a coach with zero ability to adapt his system.

Agreed. I’m pretty confused by all the compliments going his way tonight. He led the team in TOs and fouls while playing absolute garbage on ball defense and contributing nothing on offense until the last couple minutes where he had a couple nice passes. Al penetrated the zone where Green tried to shot over/pass through it and Rob stood around and passed along the perimeter. What we needed from the guards was dribble penetration, spacing from the bigs on the paint. -
That only works when the guys off the bench come in ready to play and Hunter, Rob, Armaan, DD and Race have all played as poorly for the most part than the starters so Arch puts them back in. Especially in Green’s case since he’s the only guy on the team who can get his own shot.
-
I actually got the impression that Archie “gets it” from his comments on the show. People probably need to chill on the accountability complaints, as Archie seems like the type of coach who gets on his players in private and has their back in public. What worries me is, for whatever reason, he’s not getting results out of this team. Hopefully that will change,...something needs to
-
PG - Rob (with a short leash); SG - Devonte (with a shorter leash); SF - Franklin; PF - TJD; C - Race Al, Smith and to some extent Brunk need to be held accountable for the way they’ve been playing recently. I don’t love the lineup proposed above but only because I ran out of bench spots. Armaan hasn’t exactly earned a starting role but Smith and Al’s defense has been unacceptable and they haven’t made up for it in any other measurable way. We need guys on offense who will set solid screens and move without the ball. We need guards who can feed the post. We need so many things....good luck Arch

Probably because it was an ignorant post devoid of any knowledge of the current facilities this team has been given access to. Blaming the admin for the lack of on court success is simply dumb.
-
No. We have three starters (Green, Smith and Durham) and Davis off the bench. Archie’s good Dayton teams featured a roster full of 6-8ish athletic bruisers who could run the floor, rebound and pass. They had high motors who would suffocate opponents on defense. We don’t have that roster and Archie has no clue how to make the roster he has play at a high level. It’s a team full of young guys who don’t know what they are doing and upperclassmen who are a group of soft, lazy b*tches who get in their own feelings any time things aren’t going perfectly for them.
-
Again, what does everyone else have from their school’s administration that our team doesn’t currently have? The answer is nothing. The issues on this team is Archie’s inability to effectively win over Crean’s players and get them to buy in and massive holes in recruiting. His system doesn’t work playing freshmen who are still trying to learn to play at this level and one and dones like Romeo. It will only work when he has a stocked roster full of upper classmen who out work their opponents

https://indianahq.com/iu-basketball-full-walkthrough-of-indiana-hoosiers-apartments-pictures/ In case anyone wants to see the slums half our team has to endure along with their brand new locker room and lounge donated by Zeller and VO. But what will they eat with a full meal plan and cash stipend???
-
Well IU literally has all of that. Even the football team has their own players lounge. You just don’t know what you’re talking about.
-
Such as what? Making vague, blanket statements doesn’t prove your point. What is Matt Painter getting from his admin that Archie isnt? What is Chambers getting at Penn St? What’s going on at Ohio St that we need from an administration stand point?
-
What are you talking about? What’s McRobbie and Glass supposed to do to fix Archie’s inability to recruit in a well rounded fashion and coach offense?
