(2021) PF Trey Kaufman to Purdue
KzooHoosier82 replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
In terms of record/tourney appearances, absolutely. They’ve had program stability where as we were turning over...that takes time to build. Even then, IU provided as much if not more national exposure (None of the National media ever mentioned Purdue until they got to the S16 two years ago), better campus, better facilities, better S&C program, and ultimately better NBA prospects. TK would have to be pretty cynical to look at where IU is today and think Purdue has a better program. Purdue had lightning in a bottle with four years of Carsen Edwards and it showed last year after he was gone. -

No, I get that. My point is I don’t understand how it’s gotten down to this point. Purdue wouldn’t have made my top 10 and I had the type of talent Ivy Tech would have turned away from after one video session. -

Something that I don’t understand is how can an in state kid truely be picking between both? Have things changed that dramatically? When I played high school, I would have rather paid my own way as a walkon at IU than take a scholly from Gene Keady (whom I’ve met multiple times and respect as a person). I played with guys who would 100% say the same in vise versa. What I never saw were guys mulling the two as if they were on equal footing. -

I see your point but RW is the highest rated recruit in IU history. I expected him, based on that and the limited game film available, to be opposite Fryfolge and be a guy who can get separation and open up the field for Ty and Whop. If he’s not already that level of talent that would be quite the disappointment. Getting separation was our biggest struggle Saturday so hopefully that was more to do with Penn St’s talent in the secondary and less on our WRs ability. Hewitt’s catch was insane so I’ll be looking to see what kind of separation he can get this weekend assuming he gets the nod. Not sure of Marshall’s status. Lots of talent, now the question is: who’s gonna break out? -

That guy is only “accurate” because he plays both sides of the fence. He and coach SS only develop opinions on big time targets (never anyone esle, as if they don’t matter) and tell everyone we’re getting them and will occasionally sow doubt at multiple points in the recruitment in case the result doesn’t fit the initial prediction. After the Billy Donovan debacle, their fraud was exposed and they haven’t offered anything of value since. -

Anyone else surprised to see Rashawn Williams not get in the game? I would have expected him to be ahead of Swinton on the depth chart and haven’t heard his name really at all coming into Saturday’s game. -

He’s not playing this weekend and that’s all that matters for IU. Otherwise, I hope he can make it back on the field safely at some point. -
I wouldn’t be shocked if Hunter doesn’t start. He hasn’t shown he can consistently contribute on both ends of the floor yet. My inserting him into the lineup is more wishful thinking as we need his potential to be an outside scoring threat and his size to guard opposing wings. Franklin may very well have passed him on the depth chart so my only concern is matching up with teams who don’t have traditional 6 ft guards. Asking a guard like Al or Franklin to match up with an athletic 6’6-6’8 wing who can play both inside and on the perimeter would be a huge ask. As for Brunk, he’s a Veteran presence, a team captain and beloved by Archie. I just don’t see him losing his starting spot unless he shows poor performances on the court, of which I expect him to have some rope also. So much of this really depends on how these kids are progressing in practice. There are a lot of unknowns as to how Hunter, Franklin, Race and the freshman are stacking up to the more established teammates.

Race played better off the bench in a role player capacity last year. His worst games were when he started. He has to prove he can knock down open shots and develop his post game if he is to start full time. Unfortunately, we need the offense over the intangibles until we find “the guy” on the perimeter.
-
Agreed. Brunk will start until he proves he shouldn’t. I also don’t see Lander starting until at least halfway through the season unless Al/Phin have a rough start, we can’t start all three with their lack of size. Starting: Al, Phin, Hunter, TJD, Brunk First Off the Bench: Race, Lander, Franklin If Hunter hasn’t improved drastically from last year I could see Geronimo or Leal working their way into his spot eventually.

And will always have. Utterly insane how much talent the state of Florida has. They’ll get it figured out one of these days. Hopefully not at the expense of CTA’s pipeline. Speaking of which, I was really hoping the Kevin Wright hire would lead to more IMG commits. Kinda shocking how little he’s brought to the recruiting front thus far, and as my former coach/teacher I say that with all due respect. He’s a high class guy

Hard to imagine Durham not starting and I don’t think Lander will be ready to start right away. Assuming we don’t add a transfer I think it will be Rob, Al, Hunter, TJD and Brunk with Race, Lander and Franklin getting the most minutes off the bench. If Geronimo develops quickly, expect him to earn a significant role as well. -

IMO the only locks to start right now are Smith and TJD. Brunk and Phin need to show improvement to keep their spots and I hope they do. My preferred lineup is Phin, Al, Smith, TJD and Brunk but someone is going to have to hit jumpers in order for this to work. Enter Lander for Phin and Hunter for Al if that doesn’t happen. Race will probably be the 6th man for TJD and Brunk regardless. Franklin and Geronimo are my (hopefull) sleeper picks for a breakout season. -
Hopefully the take away will be that he now knows definitively how much work he has left to do. No one is going to tell him what he wants to hear, if he can even garner a response from anyone in the NBA (of which, that silence should be deafening) and it lights a fire for him to get to work with a better attitude next season.

(2021) SG - Blake Wesley to Notre Dame

Sam Story said IU wasn’t recruiting him anymore...something about him not liking fish bowls? So this is clearly fake news. -
(2021) - PF Mason Miller to Creighton

I’ve seen massive changes in kids like him, going from HS to 2-3rd year in college. It just might take a couple years. Not every kid we bring in need to have the expectations of playing year one. Gordon Hayward was even smaller than this kid coming out into college. That seemed to work out pretty good. -

Gotta say, I’m both shocked and impressed here. This is Purdue’s and Notre Dame’s breadbasket and we went in got a kid not only they want, but other top programs as well. -

Hoiberg has been confirmed to have influenza A and was sent back to the hotel. Nebraska Basketball’s Twitter account then sadly and very incorrectly stated influenza A was the “common cold”. It’s not and hopefully none of our players get it from their players. The non handshake line is pretty laughable after sweating all over each other the entire game. -

Peyton Ramsey to Northwestern
KzooHoosier82 replied to JaybobHoosier's topic in Indiana Hoosiers Football
I’m not fully prepared to blame those stats on the QBs alone and TJ Green is coming back for a 6th year. They had zero experienced WRs last year. I’m not saying he can’t beat them out but I would have thought he would have picked a better situation for himself. -
Peyton Ramsey to Northwestern
KzooHoosier82 replied to JaybobHoosier's topic in Indiana Hoosiers Football
I’m pretty surprised by this. Northwestern returns a pretty full QB room next year including their co starters in Aidan Smith and Hunter Johnson. He’s far from a lock to beat those two out. At least at IU he was a lock for QB2. -
(2020) SF Jordan Geronimo to Maryland
KzooHoosier82 replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
This is what I’m interested to learn from him. Just how off are his misses and what’s his FG%. In high school, the star players are sometimes known to take terrible shots so I’m not as worried if he’s throwing up bricks in that scenario because that can be easily fixed with coaching and being on a talented team that creates open looks for you. I did like from the video his ability to knock down college distance 3s that were fully contested if not a foul all together. I don’t think any of our guys coming back next year exhibited that ability out of HS. Having three guys who are long and are cable of shooting coming in next year is exciting. If they all work their butts off they will all make their mark here.
