Heck of a college basketball game though amirite?

Come on man. Go to bed if that’s your attitude. It’s a great college basketball game, back and forth. Just cause your team isn’t up by 20 you’re gonna bail??? Sweet dreams. I’ll enjoy the action for you.

I mean, I don’t care if he’s a guard, how is that not a moving screen on Winston?? If he’s six inches taller the stripes are going the other way all day.

Agree to disagree. We need a scorer/playmaker when our offense sputters. It’s not a need 40 minutes a game, but it has its place and I think D.G. is the only guy with that instinct.

We don’t know each other, but if you’ve played sports at a high level, you can relate to the fact that regardless of talent level, there are certain guys who have the moxy and the skill to make big plays when other guys just as talented just don’t. I’m not saying I want D.G. to be the focus of our offense or even to play 30 mins a game. What I am saying, is that this type of game, there will come a time, when we are gonna need a big shot. And it’s probably gonna be a shot where you say “no, no, no....yes!” and in my opinion Green has that attitude and confidence to take that shot. And I’d rather have a guy taking it that has just enough arrogance to believe he’s gonna make it, than a guy like Franklin, who despite the fact he’s gonna be great for us in the long run, is in the back of his mind hoping it goes in. IMHO.

Listen, I get it. I’ve played with guys like D.G. He’s a total headache because he probably thinks he’s better than he is, and can try some things that make you pull your hair out. But at the same time, when you’ve got a team of good but not great players, with “nice guy” personalities, sometimes you need an alpha. In this type of a game and in this atmosphere, we are gonna need a big shot, and the one guy on IU that wants that shot, is Green. Like it or not.

Hate to say it, but if we’re gonna hang on and get the W, we’re gonna need a few big time 3’s from Green to stop the momentum. Can’t rely on Brunk to win you a game against a top ten team, and they will make a run. Love him or hate him, but D.G. is the guy on our squad willing to take it and make it to stop the MSU run.

Wow. If it happens, would OSU be the only team you can ever remember being ranked #2 in the country at one point in the season to end up missing the NCAA tournament? Because 2-6 in conference with two home losses already is gonna be a tough hole to climb out of.

At some point coaches like ‘Ol Roy and Coach K will be seen as what they are by recruits: old whites guys. Because right now they are just getting good recruits based on reputation, and having good recruits is making them look like they are still great coaches. It’s self-fulfilling, but you can see this year with UNC, that it’s not like they are great coaches, with these amazing schemes and player development. They are just coaches at universities with reputations that happen to be coaching ten McD’d all-Americans every year. At some point, good X and O’s coach or not, the game will pass an 80-year old by in my opinion.

Somebody will do a better recap of the game after it’s over I’m sure, but I am going to be turning my attention to the men’s game so here are my premature thoughts. The defense in the third quarter changed this game from being close with an inferior opponent, to IU looking like a top 20 team playing against a team they are better than. It almost felt like the first half they were still having confidence issues maybe still stemming from the tough losses over the last three. Couple observations: -Mackenzie Holmes is a beast. She has a chance to be remembered as one of the best women’s players to put on an IU Jersey. -Grace Berger has one of the best mid range games of any shooter I’ve seen in recent years, women or men. Great stroke from just inside the free throw line. Smooth and confident. Need her to make those shots in order to make a run in March -As Ali Patberg goes, so go the Lady Hoosiers. She does a great job of initiating the offense and pushing the ball up the court. But she sometimes gets sped up and starts playing downhill and it results in turnovers. -Based on what I’ve seen from the top 5 teams, IU is one 6’6” or 6’7” just opposing center threat away from being an elite program. They have the shooters and solid post play. But it seems like in the women’s game if you can get that one height advantage post player that just grabs boards and gets a bucket every time they get position, that’s the difference between being good and being really dangerous. -they showed the conference standings several times and it surprised me they never mentioned that IU was the only team who had played the top four teams in conference already. Lot of opportunity to get back to the top of the conference as the rest of the teams have to start playing each other. -lastly, a lot of good young talent, but for me, Aleksa Gulbe has the potential to be special. She could be an all-American as a senior with her skill-set. Handles. Three-point shot. Post moves. Great player.

Looking over the roster of the Lady Hoosiers, and I really like the talent across the classes with a lot of returning talent next year. Anyone know where I can find info about our commits for next season?

McD’d All Americans announced. Sort of disheartening to see UNC sign four with a season they’re having this year. Kind of drives home the reality that we’ve definitely lost some of our luster as a blue blood. Blue bloods don’t seem to have an issue getting top recruits even when they’re dead last in their conference standings. I wonder, does UNC have room for four freshman if only Cole goes to the NBA, but Bacot stays? (Which in this one and done era, they have to be recruiting like more than one guy will go early)

Kind of cliche to say a game isn’t necessarily a “must win game” but really is a game they need to win. But that’s basically what this is. It’s not a must, in that, it won’t cost the team the season or anything. But dropping this one puts the team squarely in the middle of the pack and probably does some damage to their confidence about this season being something special. Gotta take care of business against an inferior team and get the ship righted.

If the university has any decency, they will add on to the Big 12’s penalties and sit McCormack an additional amount of time. But they won’t. Self and his adidas-run program’s true colors are slowly starting to show. They don’t care how it gets done, or what kind of players it takes. They’re about winning whatever it takes. Sad.

Man, Michigan drops to 2-5 in conference. I was a little surprised their stadium looked pretty cleared out with 3 mins to play and them down 8. Those fans obviously have a short fuse. Maybe it’s a football school thing.

He got a lot of hype, simply for being a brand name, but it makes you question whether Juwan Howard can coach with the talent on that team and how poorly they are playing. Schools like them and Memphis sell their souls to get a “cool” coach that can recruit top talent because of their NBA connections, but it takes X’s and O’s as well as Jimmy’s and Joe’s.

Dickie V just said on ESPN that he would be shocked if DeSousa ever puts on a college jersey ever again. Don’t often agree with Dukie V much anymore these days, but in this case he’s right. It’s a privilege to play college athletics, and no matter how emotional the game gets, that kind of behavior is not acceptable. I think #33 should be done too. Not as noticeable, but you can see him trying to stomp on a guy on the ground back against the wall at one point. Classless. Kansas’ program has a stench about it, and I think it starts from the top down. Edit: #33 is David McCormack

Wowww. Just watched the whole Kansas brawl posted on ESPN. If Bill Self doesn’t suspend DeSousa and whoever #33 is for the rest of the season, the Kansas fans should call for him to be fired. Honestly, if they are representing your university and/or your alma mater across their chest acting like that... nope. If a coach lets them back on the team I wouldn’t want any part of supporting that team.

Man, NW beating up on Maryland at the half. There just aren’t any easy road games in the B1G. Even at the bottom. It kind of stinks that the conference is so balanced, because it seems like it’s costing the teams a few seed lines in bracket projections. Yeah, you get more numbers into the field, but because of the losses being spread around, we’re looking at a lot of 6-9 seeds when if the bottom of the conference was weaker, the records might support some 3-5 seeds for the same teams.
