Game Thread: Indiana Hoosiers vs. Minnesota Golden Gophers

You could call a moving screen on every possession of you wanted to. Why they always call one late in games to shift momentum is beyond me. -

This is not a good lineup. No shooters. -

Don’t look now, because nobody likes to hear it, but DG is playing some really strong on-ball defense, has hit a couple big shots and made some good passes to the post. Outside of any itchy trigger finger he couldn’t resist on the lob attempt to Trace, he is playing big for us in the second half. Love when the young man plays with confidence. -

Fat fingers. Still don’t understand. They lost four of their five decent out of conference games to TX, FSU, Marquette and Butler. Beat a super soft Virginia team and are barely above .500 overall and they’re “safely in”?? -

It still baffles me that we are a first four out but Purdue is projected as a 9 seed. They’re 14-14, and have more conference losses than every team not named NW or Neb. -

Is boxing out the shooter something we have abandoned in order to get out and run on the transition? Asking for a friend. -

Credit where due, even though delayed, he gave Brunk a quick hook and got Race in only 2 mins into the half. -

Disappointing. Your job in-game is to assess the situation and put your team in the best position to win. Operating in your comfort zone has gotten you a 6-8 conference record. -

I’m a Brunk fan. Like what he brings to the game. But he’s a possession killer when he gets it in the post because he doesn’t keep his head up for kick-out options. Let him be your first big body off the bench after Oturo has run up and down the floor for a few minutes. JB doesn’t seem big enough or athletic enough to guard Oturo to me. My MAIN focus if I’m Archie is putting enough offense on the floor to start the half to make sure the game stays close. You can not afford to let this game slip into the 7-12 point deficit range. Personally, I’d like to see TJD, Race, Hunter, Green and Phinisee. Short leash on DG with Al ready. -

Now please. For the love of all that is holy. Start the five that are playing well. Not the five that started the game! It’s not hard to see our starting five is not our best unit and will let this 3-point game get to 7-9 within four minutes if Archie rolls them out there again as usual. -
USPS, I love your enthusiasm for college basketball, and your appreciation for teams outside the B1G. But, how impressed should we be by a team beating Boise St. by 14 really? Who is Boise’s best win? Because all I know about them is that Oregon beat them by 31 and they lost by double digits to Georgia Tech. It seems like Nebraska or Minnesota would be winning by 14 at Boise St. I know you and others have said SDSU is legit, and would be competitive in the B1G, but it’s hard for me to respect their 20 wins in a conference that is a combined 0-21 against AP teams.

IUWBB vs Ohio State - 2/16/20 @ 2:00

That was a costly loss. For seeding purposes, and for confidence purposes given how shaky our play has been the past few games. -

Starting to become a commonly recurring theme IU running out of steam and getting no contributions from our bench. Not a lot that can be done about it this far into the season so just gotta roll with it and hope they can get some rest before the tourney and be able to ride the starters for two games a weekend. -

Penn and Berger have not been shooting the ball very well the last couple games. I think heavy legs are maybe a factor. Thank goodness for Patberg’s motor. -
Only if you have BTN+ though. Ugh. Box score it is.
-
A lot of poor performances, and our team defense is primarily to blame for the score right now. But the one thing I just can’t stand, is that we were down 6 thirty seconds into the second half. Could have been a game. As a coach, isn’t part of your job to identify what’s working and who’s playing well and use those to give your team a chance to win the game? Why are we so married to the starting five coming out for the second half?? Play the guys who give you the best chance to win. If nothing else; play the lineup that can keep the game from getting out of reach for as long as you can. That lineup to start the second half lost is the game. Got down 13. It was over from there.
-
News flash. Our starting five is not our best lineup. Left them in too long and lost the opportunity to make it a game. Why even start them together to start the half when you know it’s a bad combination of players? Brunk. Sit. You’ve gotten rejected at the rim five times.
-
This lineup (our starting 5) is noticeably our worst combination of players. Their +\- is why we are losing and Archie continues to put this group on the floor together.
-
Has there been more than four possessions either way without a commercial timeout? Geez. Does CBS do more commercials than B1G Network or ESPN? This is ridiculous.
-
Looks like another game where Brunk doesn’t have a good matchup on the floor. Davis and Race should split his minutes.
-
Take the points.

Historical bias. Those program names hold more cache. (Right now, sadly)
