I don’t know. They might actually be a bid stealer.

You know how sometimes with teams you just have a favorite player, and they’re not even necessarily the star of the team, and most others in the fan base maybe don’t have them as their favorite player as much? Aleksa Gulbe is that favorite player of mine on this IU team. I love her game. I love how versatile she is being able to play on the block and hit the three. And I just love her stoic, cool demeanor. She never looks rattled and just goes to work and plays her role, whatever that may be from game to game. Gulbe. My favorite IU player. (Sorry Ali, love your game too, but.)

Big sigh of relief seeing Penn back out there. This close to the Dance, a bad high ankle sprain could have been devastating for this team. Let’s close this out ladies!

    IUWBB vs Rutgers - 3/6/20 - B1G Tournament

Keep Guirantes from going off for 30 and I think we come out with a comfortable W.

Definitely a bad loss for ASU losing at home to a 14-16 Washington team. Not sure I agree on Wich. State’s bubble bursting with the loss to Memphis. They’re still sitting at 22-8. If anything, I think it just inches Memphis closer to the bubble with the W. The Pac-12 is trying to really make things complicated for leagues much more deserving of bids right now. I don’t see any reason for them to be close to a six-bid league. But seeing a lot of love for Arizona, and they’re sitting there with the sixth best record in the league (19-10) and make it hard to give them a bid and leave, say, USC out with a 21-9 record. Personally don’t see the quality to deserve more than 3-bids, but mediocrity making the league top heavy.

    Bracketology and Team Resumes

Michigan is a 17-point favorite over NEB. The more likely scenario is Rutgers beating Purdue at Mackey, which would get us the 10-seed and PU would be the 11-seed. Rutgers hasn’t been good on the road, but their last two games they lost by a point at PSU and beat Maryland by double-digits. So I’d say that’s more likely than NEB beating Michigan. Either way, I don’t care so long as we finish 10-10 in the B1G.
  8. Call it a loser’s mentality if it makes you feel better, but I’m with this too. Could care less about being the 11-seed or the 8-seed in our conference as long as we get to 10-10 in conference and then have a more favorable opportunity to add a couple W’s to the resume. IU being the 11-seed at .500 in conference would be more of a testament to the strength of the conference than a negative on IU. It’s just a seed. Really it would be that we ended up in a four-way tie for 8th, just like Michigan did, and they’re ranked in the top 25. So. My $0.02.

Rutgers it is. Need to exploit the fresh legs and push the rock.

I have to think a 4-seed is the ceiling. If we are “ranked” around 35-40th right now, you’d have to think about what we would be ranked if that run of games happened to end our regular season. I think winning those five games against those teams, based on Michigan, Iowa, etc. being ranked 18th and 24th in the AP polls, would move us up into the 12–16 AP ranking if it happened as a part of the regular conference season over the last two weeks of our schedule. So you would kind of think it would do the same or similar if we did it in the conference tourney. Isn’t there some precedent here to look back at? Didn’t Iowa make a pretty Cinderella run of like 4-games in four days to win the conference tourney and go from a bubble team to maybe a 5-seed I’m thinking it was maybe back in the Luke Recker days?? Any historians help my memory here?

    IUWBB: B1G women's tourney

I think our floor is a 5-seed in the big dance, even if we get beat by Rutgers, which I don’t see happening. The bracketology projections I’ve seen have us going to Chicago where DePaul is hosting, which is probably best case scenario for us except for the fact that Oregon would be waiting in the Sweet 16 as the 1-seed. I think based on our season as a whole, the Sweet 16 would have to be considered a good finish. Next year is the year I’m looking at for making a run at a 2-seed and getting a favorable schedule that will put us 1 game where we play out of our mind against an elite team and shock some folks by making a Final Four. With the talent we have coming back, and my thought that Moren is going to hit the transfer market hard and have a pretty attractive product to sell a grad transfer on with being the missing piece - I think we’re top 10 all year. Sure, we need to use this momentum to grab a few highly rated recruits in order to secure the future, but I think next year will be the culmination of this current success the past two years.

I think Rutgers wins at Purdue. They still have a lot to play for too. Coming off a double-digit win over Maryland and a 1-point loss at PSU game before that, they are playing well. I am confident still that beating Wiscy gets us the 10-seed.

Which helps IU’s win resume more, Notre Dame beating FSU or FSU coming back to win at ND? Need to know who to root for here.

Odd stat: Virginia up 17-13 against Miami. UVA’s Jay Huff has all 17 points. Don’t see that every day.

Agree with your post based on quads, but still can’t get myself to ever feel like losing two games to Purdue isn’t “bad.”

IU Men's Soccer 2020 Recruiting Class

    This is a good get.
  18. Survive and advance. I’ll be the first to admit, I’ve been hard on Joey B the past five games or so, and I still think Archie is too married to our starting five, specifically to start the second half; but, Brunk was the difference in the ball game the second half. Good matchup game for him and he came through. Glad to see he’s stayed mentally ready.
  19. Love me some Race. But he had two really soft attempts right at the rim in bacK to back trips that let Minny hang around here. Gotta be more confident there or at least go up hard and get fouled.
  20. The high hedging is leaving Trace and Joey scrambling to get back into position against Oturu down low. This is the worst 3-point shooting team in the conference, maybe not necessary to hedge some hard on the screens. Just my $0.02.
  21. Good to see Joey B getting a couple buckets. His confidence has been shaken for a few games now. But was Archie not paying attention to his team? They went six minutes without a sub and he had guys who were gassed. Let a 7 point lead slip because of hands on hips on defense.
  22. It’s concerning when you add that context. Especially a night after watching Purdue, a team also playing for their tournament lives, go on the ROAD and beat Iowa handily. Any competitive team has the ability to turn it up a notch when there’s a sense of urgency. Not seeing it tonight from IU in half one.

Even if we have to play on Wednesday, but we still win the next two at home, I’m not worried I’m the least. To be 10-10 in conference and be the 11-seed is unheard of. Realistically, I think that just gives us an extra win playing Nebraska instead of possibly losing our first game and not getting that extra win against OSU or Mich as the 10 or 9 seed. And after beating Nebraska, a matchup with similarly flawed Iowa is winnable to potentially get a shot at an Illinois team we just about beat at their place on a neutral court. The fact of the matter is the B1G is just so deep this year, that where we end up on conference is not nearly as big a deal as what our record looks like. And if we win two more Quad 1 games and then get a W in the tourney, we’re sitting at 21-12 and are easily in.

Wow, that granting of a TO to Baylor guy laying on the ground as he loses possession might be worse than the one they gave Illinois against IU.
