If Woody comes into this presser and does his usual “ho hum, chill guy” thing after that I’m gonna start to lose some confidence that he is adjusting to college coaching. He needs to show some emotion. He got outcoached. His team lost a game they shouldn’t lose. You don’t turn any corners talking about moral victories and saying “the difference between the two halves was we didn’t make shots and they made them in the second half.” No.

Just a complete collapse. Really unacceptable.

Why is X deciding to shoot this running off-balance floater every possession?

Not a good example of clock management, shot selection and generally how to close out a game on the road.

I know Woody was trying to get to the under 8 timeout with that lineup, but that was risky. They had a possession to cut it to 6 and this is a different game. Can’t sit X/TJD/Race for five minutes while a team is cutting your double digit lead to two possessions.

Errr. I meant, Durr and Phinisee have got this.

Not my favorite lineup to be stemming the tide on this Wiscy run.

Early indications are we don’t have a “step on your throat team” but Woody could have helped them out with a couple early subs or a stop-momentum timeout. Hopefully he learns some of that college game stuff as the season progresses.

Woody missed an opportunity to pull X from the game as he was starting to get out of control. He turned it over and took two bad shots that led to a 5-point swing and Wiscy getting momentum. Have to keep an eye on that young man’s demeanor and emotions.

This next half will say a lot about this basketball team. Do we let them cut into the lead and hang on to win a good game on the road by 5-6? Or do we have a group of guys that can step on their throat and put up a statement win the rest of the country raises an eyebrow at winning by 20? This Wiscy team is outmatched. Now whether we recognize it and finish the job will say a lot about our team mentality.

Tough loss. Patberg had a three half way down. Good fight. They’ll learn from this one. Better start against the taller team and we would have had this one. Just dug ourselves too big a hole.

Stanford beam pole makes one of two free throws. IU down 3 with 6.8 seconds to play. Gonna have a chance to tie.

Berger fouled with 8.7 seconds to go. Two shots coming.

Jump ball. Possession IU. 13 seconds to go, down 2. Gotta drive and kick to Grace. I know Holmes is our best player but she can’t get a post shot off against this Stanford team.

Down 2 with 31 seconds to go. Gulbe with a big three. Gonna take some missed free throws by Stanford. No matter what, we played them tough given the size advantage. Moren will be better prepared to negate the height on defense to open the game come tourney time. This team is legit top five team.

Doesn’t look good. Down 8 with two mins to play. Size killed us. Holmes hardly a factor because they’re just too tall. If we want to beat this kind of a team in the tourney we’re gonna have to be better from deep.

Ugh. We missed a couple bunnies at the rim that would have cut it to one. 61-58 Stanford with three mins to play.

TV timeout. Down 3, Gulbe heading to the line for two. Keys to the game: we’re undersized. Fact. Gotta keep hands active on defense when the ball is in the post, and then have to use our quickness on matchups on the offensive end to draw fouls or get into the lane and kick out for looks. It’s there for the taking.
