We HAVE to use this season to recruit better talent. Point blank. Or this season becomes a nice story that ends in regression to the middle of the pack. Bottom line. We had an easy schedule, caught Michigan rebooting and Washington too. It won’t get easier. We need more talent and size. We can’t count on a good coach and majority FCS transfers. Hopefully resources and Cig will make the jump to the next level.

3 points. If you’re gonna be an underdog, be an underdog. Go out with a bang. Trick plays. Fake punts. Show some swag. We ran up the middle and punted on 3rd down with 8 mins to play. Cig had talked the talk and for the most par lt walked the all this year, but this was a poor showing in all aspects.

Athletes. Strength. Size. It matters. A chip on your shoulder because you were under recruited will only get you so far.
-
How many draw plays can we run up the middle?
-
Notre dame doesn’t respect us.

Patrick Mahomes has ruined football. Bunch of sissy QBs trying to stretch their runs for extra yards but can’t take a hit. It’s infuriating.
-
If that is what we drew up for our play calling out of half with our first posssion, we’re just happy to be here.

Did we blow up the game thread??
-
Did we lose our game thread?

I keep almost saying, “really, Michael Vick leading and teaching young men”??? Then the line from The Office comes into my head, “hey, hey, hey….. Vick did his time.” IYKYK.

I’m definitely more in the know on the basketball side, but I think it’s all pretty much the same. There are no more back channels and under the table stuff. Pretty much anything goes in today’s college athletics. They’re all talking to whomever they want, however they want. Nobody is regulating or monitoring this type of scale. Pretty much if you think it might be happening, it is, times ten. Summarily, there are no rules. -

Except it doesn’t look like he HAS played in that many games. His game log says he played in 4 games in 2023 and 7 games in 2024. So hopefully he’s a depth piece and a good locker room guy. -

Hopefully another depth get?? 11 receptions does not a noteworthy season make. -

Some noted that the bison was present in all of our social media posts releasing the 2025 schedule last week as a sign it might be on the horizon. -

Is anyone else watching the JMU bowl game like they’re watching a triple A team wondering who we’re gonna call up in the next couple years? -
Didn’t there used to be a salary cap in baseball? The sport really needs to do something about the spending sprees from each of the coasts. The lack of competitive parity is growing by the day.

He was out of eligibility no? Pretty sure he was a senior. -

If I remember correctly Kiffin brought in a big number of transfers last year to try and compete right away. Many were one year eligibility guys so it’s likely they have some immediate playing time to offer along with a bunch of NIL. -
Didn’t Tamar Bates have like 30 in an upset of #1 Kansas the other day too? Either those guys are thriving under new systems or they all just so happened to suck for Woody and miraculously are good against top teams a year after leaving IU.

I see the Thieneman (sp?) to Oregon news and honestly that kind of concerns me. Unless it was a strictly NIL that couldn’t be done move, we should be getting Purdue’s best players easily with our success this year and it being such an easy recruit and change for the player. Unpopular opinion, we need to leverage and then leave behind the plucky, under-appreciated non power 5 player model as soon as possible. Yes, Cig is a great coach and has had success with guys with a chip on their shoulders. No, I don’t think that’s a sustainable model if we really want to leap into the upper echelon of the conference perennially. You have to use your success to move the program forward. Our women’s bball program is dealing with this hard truth currently. Lighting in a bottle isn’t easy to catch, and even the best coaches can’t turn 3-star talent into national championship contenders consistently. Lots of programs have had their fleeting success only to fall back. I remember Northwestern making a rose bowl in the late nineties only to become irrelevant inside of five years. Our model needs to be the Gonzaga model. Used to be a Cinderella story in March Madness. Had a couple underdog teams that overachieved. Great coach. But turned the program into a mainstay by getting regular five star talent and transfers BECAUSE they had a great coach. Now they’re a new “blue blood” every year. My fear is that we rely on the theory that Cig’s a good coach and can get “more out of less” and continue prioritizing high production mid-major guys and our luck runs out and we fall back in line. What I want is for us to strike while the iron is hot and create a winning culture with better talent that has less risk of a downside so to speak. Rant over. But I’m bookmarking this and hoping not to have to point back to it in five years. I desperately want to have a football program that gives us this excitement and joy year in and out. I hope we do just that but also can see how this season becomes a flash in the pan if we assume it can be easily repeated. Go IU. Beat ND. Sorry to let the bourbon type for me tonight. -

Those must be vaulted ceilings, because we have about as much chance at reaching that as I do replacing the ceiling fan on my 20-footer without a ladder. -

I agree. But he was pretty darn good at AZ. I was in attendance in Las Vegas when they ran us out of the gym two years ago. -
