    2024 IUFB Season

Wholeheartedly agree. Let the playoffs be the playoffs. March madness if you will. Great job, you’re a playoff team. But if you’re gonna leave out 1 loss teams, give them the honor of competing for a prestigious bowl championship. You’re telling me if Georgia or Alabama wins their first round game they care about a Rose Bowl win when they’re heading to a semi-final for the national championship? Negative. Just a step in the process. But give Army, Boise St., South Carolina, Ole Miss, IU (potentially, hope not, but still) the chance to cap a great season with a Rose bowl win.. different story. That means something.
  2. Respectfully, my original point wasn’t about whether scoring on the last drive by Day was beneficial for his team in the metrics. It was strictly a plea, for CCC and anyone in the IU program to recognize what a classless move it was to disrespect a fellow top-5 team like that, and remember it if/WHEN we start recruiting the guys to better matchup with a $20M dollar team of five stars. I hope, as the competitor I believe CCC to be, he won’t forget that. I can’t imagine a Nick Saban, etc. would take that and let it slide off his shoulder as something any top tier program would do given the same opportunity to take a knee and end a game against competition they consider respectable peers.
  3. I think it’s worth everyone relaxing. We played the second best team in the country on the road and lost on two special teams plays and a score with 30 seconds left that should have been a kneel down. That’s not a bad loss for a 1-loss team. Bama is currently losing 17-3 against a 5-5 Oklahoma team. They have a heisman fromt runner at QB. They have 3 points. Minnesota for all intents and purposes beat PSU tonight. We’re fine. Penn State lost as the #5 team in the country to #3 OSU at home and fell to (wait for it.. #6) We have earned our spot in the playoff. Did we earn a home game? Probably not. But first season coach Curt Cignetti has a group off JMU transfers and some MAC guys in a national championship playoff. Life is good. Let’s enjoy the ride. Edit: Bama down 24-3 in the 4th quarter. Jalen Milroe 6-16 for 97 yards. Makes Rourke’s numbers look decent. “Any given Sunday”
  4. False. Day’s RB did the classy thing and went down at the 2-yard line to ice the game. Game over. Well played game against two good teams. Day called for them to run the score instead of taking a knee. That’s on him. And it was bad form. No ifs ands buts about it. Cig don’t call timeout. He had two. He could have. He was conceding. To score that touchdown, that’s something a competitive college coach hoping to change the culture does NOT forget about. I hope he doesn’t. P
  5. Good game. Not unexpected. But, lord, I hope and pray, that Cig remembers that Ryan Day took that touchdown while we were conceding a kneel down and remembers it for the day our talent catches up to our coaching. “Run it up Herman, leave no doubt.” Man I hope this comes to pass.

The sharp money starting to come in today. Line down to +10.5. Wouldn’t surprise me to see IU a single digit dog by game time.

It will likely go down as a win because the talent discrepancy is just too much, but the eye test wasn’t passed. Gonzaga beats us by 15+ next week without improvement.

If you’re going to take guys from five different schools and expect them to be the bulk of your production, you need good coaching. Otherwise you get what we see now with IU. A team of individuals with no chemistry or familiarity with how to play together.

My goodness. This could be a long season. I think this group of transfers might expose Woody’s lack of coaching ability with their individual regressions in performance from previous schools.

Sorry, but I just don’t see a coherent offense being run. We score because we have some guys who can make shots, but I can’t see our offense creating opportunities consistently. Been this way for a few seasons it feels like.

Illini left their defense in Champaign. On pace to give up 100.

They got the win, but didn’t come close to covering. If there’s such thing as a “bad win” that might be it.

Tx A&M getting thumped by 15 at the half to Southern. Not even a state after that name. Just Southern somewhere I guess. They’re 25.5 point favorites at home. Ouch.
  14. With you wholeheartedly about the wealth of riches, but will say there’s a big difference between a 4-star bench guy and a probable all-American at the position. I think this will be bigger for them than some are expecting.

Honestly, that road game as an 11-seed against a Penn State team who hasn’t beaten anybody, and then a quarterfinal game against Miami might not be the worst thing in world. That’s the softest path to the semi finals aside from the 5-seed that gets BYU and Boise St. If we lose to OSU I think that’s best we could hope for, a couple winnable games.

I think Georgia is the only team in the country who might still get in as a 3-loss team. Their schedule is just tougher than anyone’s by a mile. But I’d rather TN win tonight to put them as far out of potentially making it as possible. Despite their record, that would be a nightmare matchup for IU to host UGA as a 6 or 7 seed.

Duke looks like a prime example of a team that will eventually get upset by a 13-seed again this year. The high school one and done route hasn’t worked in over a decade. I don’t care how generational Flagg is, they’re gonna get beat by 24 year old men in the big dance.

They must be factoring in our game against OSU and then our game against Oregon. ;)

I don’t know, I was asking you. Legitimately. Not adversarially. If your future opponents are baked in, then when you start the season they judge your whole season for strength. Then is it just adjusted each week as your future (and past?) teams played perform better or worse? I guess I just assumed because commentators seem to use “they haven’t played anybody” and “look at their strength of schedule” similarly, that your SOS was backward looking.

    2024 IUFB Season

So you start the season with the same SOS that you end the season with? Seems like that wouldn’t leave much room for reassessing your schedule strength as teams over/under perform their preseason rankings.
  22. JerryYeagley23

    2024 IUFB Season

That keeps getting parroted, but does anyone know what number our SOS will be once we play OSU? Are we just being punished because we haven’t played the best team on our schedule and everyone else has?

You’re not crazy. It’s a bad system as soon as conference realignment happened. And why the B1G and SEC had that strategic alliance meeting earlier this fall. There’s zero reason a team you deem the 9th best team in the country should be seeded 4th. It’s dumb. Seed them 1-12 and stop pretending winning a mediocre conference means anything.

I stayed up until 2am watching that Utah game Saturday night. BYU is terrible. Rivalry game or not, they looked awful. If they played in the B1G they would have 4-5 losses.

When Georgia lost to Alabama they fell from #1 to #4 in the polls. When PSU lost to OSU they fell from #3 to #6. Precedent has been that losing to a top five team as a top five team doesn’t cost you much. But neither of those had the whole brand bias thing IU would be up against.
