I think we’re solidly fine. Win against PU and then it’s all about the matchup. Reallyyy want to win one game at least just so we can play in a new years six bowl game and get to enjoy that atmosphere.

So I guess I haven’t watched much UCONN the past few years other than in the tourney. So maybe just didn’t realize this until now. But Hurley might be the most annoying whiner of a coach I’ve ever seen, and that includes Izzo, who I despised when he was young enough to matter and not washed up and hanging onto the program too long purely for his own ego. But goodness. Hurley relentlessly berates refs and gets about as much airtime from the camera as his team. I’m shocked he didn’t get tossed from both games in this Maui tournament. Great success the last two years sure, but he’s not someone I respect after watching him on the sidelines. And the announcers glorifying him because they’ve won titles as a “ferocious competitor” etc. Just looks like a whiny ****** to this observer.

    IUFB Offseason Updates

I think we need to really hit the portal hard this spring. Like I said about our women’s bball team the last five years with their success, it’s one thing to have fleeting success over performing and being coached well - but if you want to sustain it and become a regular power program eventually you have to capitalize on your moment by getting better talent. At some point talent wins out. We need to use our good press and vibes to go from a bunch of three stars to a good smathering of four star talent or we’ll fall back into the pack with time. Mich, Iowa, Washington, Wiscy, USC aren’t going to stay .500 teams and make it easy to stay in the top half of the conference. BIG Offseason ahead for our staff or we bring in the opportunity to be a flash in the pan that benefited from a down year for the conference and 13 transfers from one school. Hope we come through.

IUWBB vs North Carolina - Monday, 11.25.24 @ Noon

Not an excuse because we got smoked, but three games in three days is big for this IU team. CTM’s teams are historically thin on depth. We basically play five players 35-38 mins a game. They look gassed. No Syd. Already a transition year after the Holmes era. Just a bad recipe.

IUWBB vs North Carolina - Monday, 11.25.24 @ Noon

We don’t have the depth and without Syd it was always gonna be a tough ask. But these refs also let the game get far to physical from the tip which highly benefits UNC’s “physical” style of play. We’re getting mugged every time we go through the lane.

I’m having real trouble taking SMU seriously. They haven’t played Clemson, Miami or Georgia Tech - the 2nd/3rd/5th place teams in the conference. They lost to BYU, beat Duke by 1-point in overtime, and beat Nevada, who is dead last in the mountain west conference with an 0-6 conf record by 5 points on a TD pass with 1:18 left in the game. At some point who you play and the performance has to matter. It’s been held against IU all year and we were demolishing teams until our last two games. What makes SMU’s 10-1 record better than IU’s??

What a week to be an IU fan

Agreed. Love what the athletic department has done in the Fall window (minus women’s volleyball which I thought was building momentum last year and has underperformed). Only complaint, it’s tragic that IU WBB is playing in a tourney title game against another top 15 team and it’s only accessible on Flo Sports ($$$). They say they want to advance women’s sports and then they restrict the ability to engage and view, by putting it on a pay-per-view streaming service.

    2024 IUFB Season

That would be best case scenario. Them or Penn St. I’d take either one in a heartbeat as the lower seed. I want no piece of going to Georgia or Texas.
  9. Is “none ” an acceptable answer? Ha. I don’t know how many less than 4-stars they have on their BENCH.

    2024 IUFB Season

We were wondering how this worked on here in a discussion last week. I didn’t know if that was a moving metric and would improve after playing OSU. Helps that our wins have gotten better records since as well. This was the one number everyone was using the hate on us.

Also worth noting the B1G results. We now have wins against three bowl eligible teams with winning records.

Pretty much as good as we could have hoped for in the chaos category. Three SEC teams eliminated.

So is Ole Miss. A&M might be soon. If not tonight they will be next week when they lose to Tx.

If results hold with Bama and A&M, I’d have to guess we fall to #8/9. Loss to #2 paired with losses by Bama, Ole Miss, BYU, CO and close wins by Boise St. and PSU we should get a favorable narrative as a 10-1 team.

This. Imagine the precedent it would set for the USC, Washington, Wisconsin, Iowa and Michigan’s if you say an 11-1 season isn’t good enough in the B1G.

    2024 IUFB Season

Wholeheartedly agree. Let the playoffs be the playoffs. March madness if you will. Great job, you’re a playoff team. But if you’re gonna leave out 1 loss teams, give them the honor of competing for a prestigious bowl championship. You’re telling me if Georgia or Alabama wins their first round game they care about a Rose Bowl win when they’re heading to a semi-final for the national championship? Negative. Just a step in the process. But give Army, Boise St., South Carolina, Ole Miss, IU (potentially, hope not, but still) the chance to cap a great season with a Rose bowl win.. different story. That means something.
  18. Respectfully, my original point wasn’t about whether scoring on the last drive by Day was beneficial for his team in the metrics. It was strictly a plea, for CCC and anyone in the IU program to recognize what a classless move it was to disrespect a fellow top-5 team like that, and remember it if/WHEN we start recruiting the guys to better matchup with a $20M dollar team of five stars. I hope, as the competitor I believe CCC to be, he won’t forget that. I can’t imagine a Nick Saban, etc. would take that and let it slide off his shoulder as something any top tier program would do given the same opportunity to take a knee and end a game against competition they consider respectable peers.
  19. I think it’s worth everyone relaxing. We played the second best team in the country on the road and lost on two special teams plays and a score with 30 seconds left that should have been a kneel down. That’s not a bad loss for a 1-loss team. Bama is currently losing 17-3 against a 5-5 Oklahoma team. They have a heisman fromt runner at QB. They have 3 points. Minnesota for all intents and purposes beat PSU tonight. We’re fine. Penn State lost as the #5 team in the country to #3 OSU at home and fell to (wait for it.. #6) We have earned our spot in the playoff. Did we earn a home game? Probably not. But first season coach Curt Cignetti has a group off JMU transfers and some MAC guys in a national championship playoff. Life is good. Let’s enjoy the ride. Edit: Bama down 24-3 in the 4th quarter. Jalen Milroe 6-16 for 97 yards. Makes Rourke’s numbers look decent. “Any given Sunday”
  20. False. Day’s RB did the classy thing and went down at the 2-yard line to ice the game. Game over. Well played game against two good teams. Day called for them to run the score instead of taking a knee. That’s on him. And it was bad form. No ifs ands buts about it. Cig don’t call timeout. He had two. He could have. He was conceding. To score that touchdown, that’s something a competitive college coach hoping to change the culture does NOT forget about. I hope he doesn’t. P
  21. Good game. Not unexpected. But, lord, I hope and pray, that Cig remembers that Ryan Day took that touchdown while we were conceding a kneel down and remembers it for the day our talent catches up to our coaching. “Run it up Herman, leave no doubt.” Man I hope this comes to pass.

The sharp money starting to come in today. Line down to +10.5. Wouldn’t surprise me to see IU a single digit dog by game time.

    IUBB vs UNC Greensboro - Thursday, 11.21.24 @ 6:30 on FS1 TV

It will likely go down as a win because the talent discrepancy is just too much, but the eye test wasn’t passed. Gonzaga beats us by 15+ next week without improvement.

    IUBB vs UNC Greensboro - Thursday, 11.21.24 @ 6:30 on FS1 TV

If you’re going to take guys from five different schools and expect them to be the bulk of your production, you need good coaching. Otherwise you get what we see now with IU. A team of individuals with no chemistry or familiarity with how to play together.

    IUBB vs UNC Greensboro - Thursday, 11.21.24 @ 6:30 on FS1 TV

My goodness. This could be a long season. I think this group of transfers might expose Woody’s lack of coaching ability with their individual regressions in performance from previous schools.
