You completely get it...if I were you I’d put my hat in the ring for head coaching position...This staff has seen/coached Peyton for 4 years and have seen Penix in practices/camps/games and made the decision that Penix is clearly the better QB, hence why he was named starter. LeBron James coming out of high school was a complete unknown against NBA teams yet still was seen as the future of the NBA based on the games he played in high school. You don’t necessarily have to see these kids play against a perennial powers before you can assess their talents....Penix was B1G Freshman of the week his first career start and was in the same company as Randel El his first start...there’s a reason traditional power house schools like Tennessee and Florida State recruited him...because they realize his talents. A good QB can mask a lot of deficiencies for a team however. I think we can agree this program isn’t where we’d like it to be but Penix has the tools to take this program up a level over the next few years...I’m curious to why you don’t think Penix is a viable option for our program to get to the next level. So after today’s performance, if Penix and Ramsey are both healthy, you’re gonna tell me you’d rather have Ramsey out there??? Nobody is saying that Ramsey is the savior, but he gives us a much better chance to win and is WAY MORE DYNAMIC. He can throw with pro level velocity and a as a freshman is already better than the senior and it’d be silly to say there’s nothing special about him. Hope all the Ramsey backers are happy and will finally realize that he is NOT THE ANSWER, like the rest of us already have....if you haven’t then I suggest scheduling an eye/psych exam ASAP. Would we have won with Penix, most likely not, but he certainly would’ve given us a better chance and would’ve kept the defense off the field more-so than Ramsey. This team has A LOT to work on before their next game and I pray for a speedy recovery for Penix. I think this team felt defeated out the gate and made for a long day. Being there in person, I got to witness the weak throws of Ramsey and every throw longer than 15 yards was under thrown and he missed several wide open receivers on multiple plays...just a poor effort all around today. Great interview with Rabjohns on 1070 the fan with JMV right now talking about the velocity of Penix’s ball compared to Ramsey’s and the impact this will have going against elite defenders...basically summed it up with Ramsey doesn’t give receivers enough time to catch the ball clean and/or catch and plant and go like Penix does and Ramsey can’t fit the ball into tight windows and IU will be making A LOT of “safe” throws Saturday and it’s gonna be very difficult to win Saturday playing this way. Analytics to back up the Penix ball velocity...said chance to win goes down without Penix. I’ll counter it with we still lost 49-26. Ramsey’s had his opportunities to win BIG games and he’s not dynamic enough to do so in my opinion...as is the opinion of most of Hoosier Nation. I have nothing against Peyton at all and I’ll be cheering for him harder than anyone in that stadium outside of his parents on Saturday but he’s just not the answer IMO. We know what he can do and what seem to be his limitations. I hope he makes me a believer come Saturday but until he proves that he can win a game against the likes of an Ohio State, then Im going to believe this is Penix’s team. There’s a reason the coaches made the change this year after watching/coaching Peyton for 4 years...I would like to believe they know more than us fans about the players in their program and their capabilities, but maybe not and maybe some of us should apply for a coaching position to take this program to another level. “Serviceable” doesn’t win you games against teams like Ohio State. His throws are weak and not near as crisp in comparison to Penix which allows defenders to get to the ball quicker and break up potential big plays...I’m not hating on Ramsey at all but I think Penix gives us a better chance. College Football analysts are already comparing Penix to Randle El, even the guys that coached/played against Randle El himself...I think that says something to the special kind of player he is. I think we had a legit chance to pull this off this year. OSU isn’t Alabama. They beat Florida Atlantic 45-21 at home and UCF beat them 48-14 the following week on the ROAD. I think even with Ramsey we can keep it close until late 3rd quarter but he just doesn’t have enough to give us an actual chance down the stretch. Nobody said he is the savior I was just pointing out that last year we scored more points on Ball State but that wasn’t because of Ramsey which is what Brass Cannon alluded to. As far winning the big games, that remains to be determined. You do realize Penix led one of those TD drives last year against Ball State and another TD was an 86 yard punt return for a TD by J-Shun Harris....and that was IU’s 3rd game last year with Ramsey at QB and he put up 24 points and threw for 173 yards sooooo that argument is moot. The D not being to get off the field on 3rd downs was the only thing keeping us from hanging 50+ on them. I don’t know how anybody could want Ramsey in over Penix at this point.
