All while playing in a gym that couldn't even host a sectional in Indiana....

Agreed, just using it as an example of how we could do a lot to assuage fears of him being "unproven" here.

May makes 1.25 Mill, double it to 2.5M, you could put 5.5 million towards assistants before it would be more expensive than the buyout

Yeah, I'm firmly in the Dusty crowd. I like some others, but he feels like the ready made first choice. When Dusty turned down bigger jobs last year it was reported that he didn't care much about the money. For the same price as Oats' buyout, we could double Dusty's pay and have the largest assistant pool in the country. I don't think people realize how much work it takes to get where he is as a manager. You don't get to where he is by accident. Beyond that, I love that he's young, everyone has incredible things to say about him, that his players are loyal to him to the point of turning down thousands of dollars in NIL money to stay. That speaks volumes about him as a coach and a man. Lots of things have changed in the NIL era, but you still have to build a team and keep them together and the portal should be used to plug gaps. It's one thing ti do that and keep your team together at Duke or Purdue or MSU, but he did it at FAU. He built his program from nothing. I love that every interview about him mentions how he is just obsessive about basketball, always learning. He changes and adapts. His system works and is fun to watch. And lastly, sue me but I like having an IU guy. He understands and appreciates what makes this place and this state special. He loves IU for the same reasons I do, and I appreciate that in the leader of the program.

Whew, well thank god Bruce Pearl is clean in that regard. It would really suck if his assistant, oh idk, caught a federal bribery charge.

I don't quite think it's that simple. Knight was from a generation where strict military discipline was seen as a good thing. Most coaches of that generation looked like drill sergeants. When times changed and he went too far, he got fired despite being the greatest coach in the game. We don't need to relitigate his personal failings, the point is he was absolutely a stickler for the NCAA rules. I think it's perfectly rational for people to want their program to win and win the right way.

Did Trilly actually say something about IU? And also I know that I have a propensity to write longer form posts, please feel free to let me know if this is not the place for it. I just like to write down my thoughts but I don't want to flood the board if that's not what people want!

Yeah, they got guys who had never been HC's before and they are rolling because they have a brand. We aren't that brand anymore, thats why I favor a program builder.

Wow, just got finished going through this thread. We did some work boys. Couple of points: 1. We should cool it with all the hate. I get we all love IU, but the hate for Dolson, Buckner, Woody and everyone involved is getting a little much. It seems to me that Woody is old, lacks the energy to be a coach in this day and age, and inflexible. That enough justifies a change, but I also believe he is a good man. Dolson is a great AD, if you understand college athletics at all, you understand that. Buckner is a legend. He cares, he wanted a return to the tradition of the IU program in the last cycle just like we all did. We are running our coach, a program legend, off in his third year. I believe it needs to be done but its sad. 2. This next year is going to be crazy if we move. All 2-time transfers are immediately eligible now so its going to be true free agency. Further evidence to move now. 3. Wtf did Trilly say? 4. Please god not Bruce Pearl. If we smite our program for Sampson and then 15 years later hire another old scumbag I will not be happy. Some of y'all will say winning is all that matters. It's not a choice between losing with a good person and winning with a bad, we can win with either and I'd prefer someone who isn't a known bad guy. Young, energetic, modern offense, experience with modern college basketball, and preferably an appreciation for what the Indiana job is. There are a few guys I would understand. But not Pearl.

  14. Woodson plays Mgbako at the four and we immediately score twice.

Fair, but Walsh got McNeeley and is the lead on Mullins/Sisley. If this were next year I'd say clean house, but if they move now we could keep Walsh and maybe have a fighting chance at those prospects.

Holtmann is an obvious choice, I think he would like a BE job again but he might have run through a lot of his goodwill in Ohio. Mack would be welcomed back with open arms. What's with all the boomerang Big East coaches damn

Bring in Dusty. Keep Walsh. Let him bring one Assistant + his strength and conditioning. Bring in a former HC as the last guy (there will be no shortage of them on the market). If the HC is more energetic on the trail, which Dusty absolutely is, then we probably don't need multiple assistants whose chief role is recruiter. Fife, Yaklich, Martelli, or one of the tons of coaches that will be fired this offseason. Profit.

I mean, that's part of the problem. There shouldn't be much of a difference in modern basketball between 3 and 4. I get the impression that if he asked that he meant that he didn't want to be a post player, which is fine because we shouldn't be playing two of those anyway. A smart coach would ask him to put on 10 Lbs so he could be our Joey Hauser, but I've given up hope of that.

I could honestly talk myself into that roster, but Woody will never play Mgbako at the four unless he is forced to. He is hesitant to play Reneau at the 5. And that assumes that both of them come back.

I don't think most people expected JHS to leave, but the writing was on the wall after we went on that little midseason run. He also didn't expect to have X back this year, though. And with all that its never been more easy to plug holes via the portal and he still missed out. I'm just sad that we have to cobble together a team again. If it doesn't work out, we will be completely rebuilding the team in the offseason for the 3rd year in a row and more than likely we will be watching Sisley and Mullins go play for in-state rivals.

Ik its not the full season but when Posh went out for Butler they won @ Creighton. Matta recruited enough guards to endure the injury and adjusted to run his offense thru Telfort. Guard depth and adjustments, two things that we never get. Plus just cause X was hurt doesn't change the fact that he assembled a team with zero spacing and expects his slashing point guard to drive into 5 dudes every play. Yet he probably sees no problem with that.

And he's gonna say the exact same thing to Dolson at the end of the year. As if we looked any good with X.
