I hope there's some way for these rumors to reach Dolson.

True but losing players can and should be taken into consideration by the AD. If they think the noise is loud now, Trey transferring would make it almost impossible for them to bring Woody back

This made me look into Fife again and honestly....with how Izzo and Woody have done without him....there's at least a conversation to be had. MSU had 4 of the 5 previous years in the top 10 of KP with Fife, then he left and they have been 64, 42, 26, 20. Obviously we have also seriously regressed since he left too. Not saying he should be the guy but damn

Quinn loves Woody, but he also wants an IU guy. For them, someone who has a connection to our past and an understanding of RMK is really important. Hence Woody always saying "Bob Knight is Indiana Basketball." For that reason I actually think it makes May a little more likely. For Dolson, May is the compromise candidate, he is still an IU guy which the old guard/Quinn really values but he's young and trending and there are a ton of jobs open right now so Dolson can say we need to move now to secure our guy for the next 20 years. Plus its easily the most cost effective option. It's harder to go to Quinn and say this isn't working we need to move to get Pearl or anyone else because they will likely be in the same exact spot next year, except probably with a reduced buyout on their and IU's end, so why not give one of your own the benefit of the doubt and let Woody try and turn it around.

I get where you are coming from. I will just say that Pearl =/= Beard. Pearl loves to cheat the NCAA but until Congress does something, the NCAA doesn't matter. Reasonable people can disagree on how much that matters in today's landscape. As some people have pointed out to me on the board, lots of people seem to love Pearl as a person. Beard is another thing entirely. No prosecutor is going to continue pressing charges against a multi-millionaire without the support of the victim, so the fact that the charges were dropped means nothing. Texas looked into it and fired him. And his drinking problems are well known. I hate it as much as the next guy, without the off the court stuff, Beard would be the ready made #1 option for IU, but there has to be a line. He should not and will not be considered for our job.

By "donors" I am assuming he means the Cooks, who are certainly in Woody's corner

I fear he plays too fast. Top 10 in tempo is fun, but it becomes unsustainable once you run into a team that can force you out of it. Have to get a coach that can do both.

From what I can see, I think the narrative has flipped. Two games ago it was "he will be back unless it gets really bad." I would have probably put it at 70% stay/30% gone. Now I see more people wanting him gone than not, but the admin doesn't want to be forced to do it. All Woody has to do is give them an excuse, some hope to cling to and he will stay. I think 3-2 down the stretch might even do it, but as of right now, I think the AD is starting to see the writing on the wall. There are a lot of politics that go on behind the scenes, but when you have fans openly discontent, booing, sounding off on social media, it's hard to get around. The base is toxic right now and if that continues Dolson's hands are tied imo

I don't think Dolson could sell Shrews this offseason either way, but I guarantee he has Notre Dame competing within the next 3 years

The tournament is very high variance for sure. Should be taken with a grain of salt. I do think some coaches/playstyles are more conducive to winning in the tourney, but hard to take too much from one year. Worth noting that Dusty still had a top ~25 KP team before the tourney, and C-USA was very strong last year. Definitely doesn't have all the national hype w/o final four but people were for sure taking notice.

Part of it schedule, part of it is that they definitely come out unfocused sometimes. Game to game, I think their lack of height def hurts them more in the American, where there is more size on average. And it really plummeted this year when Rosado (their backup C) was out, forcing them to play Tre Carroll, who's basically a 6'7 wing at the 5 every time Goldin went out.

I wish Bryce Drew would have come back to Valpo....there should always be a Drew there IMO. Just no reason to leave GCU

All fair, I was more just making a comment on how unbelievably bad we are on D this year despite having a 7'2 shot blocker

How sad is it that we are in here talking about how FAU's defense falling this year is a red flag and its still ranked higher than IU's right now And thats with unranked recruits vs 5 stars. Man we need a change

This brings back memories. That was a wild day of college basketball all around, but it ended up pretty good for all of us :)

38th in 3 pointers attempted but only 313 in 3pt%. I'm impressed by their defense too, they are super super young I'm sure he will have them rolling very soon.

Exactly. I remember HATING the Archie hire. We will all be upset in a few years if Dusty goes elsewhere.

Look, we can disagree on May. That's fine. All I know is that if OSU gets him and we end up getting crapped on by one of our own (again) thats more than a fireable offense for Dolson.

I do think that tournament runs have high variance and are not always dispositive on a coach being good or not. However, if we are going to say this, we could just as easily mention how FAU was criminally under-seeded, most thought they and Memphis would be on the 7 or 8 line and instead they played each other. Plus if we are going to say that they were close to a first round loss we should also mention that they were even closer, points wise, to playing for a National Championship.

Why is it a negative that he had to take lower assistant jobs? People who start as managers don't have the cred, they have to start at places like that. We should be saying, holy sh*t, he went from Eastern* Michigan to the final four! You wouldn't refer to Chris Beard 'Former North Texas Assistant." Also the fact that we just heard about OSU taking a look at him speaks to the fact that it's not just that he's an IU guy.

Archie's dad was a legend, his brother is a well-known coach, and he played high major basketball. His brother recruited him to play at NCST and hired him as an assistant. By the time Archie was coaching, Sean was already a successful coach and Archie traded off the name. He coached at Dayton, a program with historic success. Dayton was gonna have a 1 seed 3 years after he left and might get a protected seed this year. A lot of people were excited for Archie because we thought he could turn a program around like his brother. But Dusty hasn't had anywhere near the help in getting where he is, he would have never been considered at Dayton because he doesn't have the name Archie does. So Dusty took a job at a program ranked 3 times worse historically in Kenpom than Dayton (210 vs 70), and still had a better run. Dusty didn't play, he didn't have his name out there at all. He certainly didn't have his brother out there. What he's gotten he has earned completely on merit. Not a comparison.
