Wow you guys put in some serious work over the weekend, took me forever to catch up. May is my #1 choice, if OSU or L'Ville gets him I'll be really upset Regarding our rumors, is Dolson trying to raise support for the buyout or do we think we could force a retirement? -

So should we take this Trilly news as confirmation that the admin is looking to make a move away from Woodson, or just that they are doing due diligence? -
I've been really impressed with the job Ragland has done this year

About Woodson or potential candidates? -
yeah, a couple months ago that guy tweeted that Kolek couldn't read and in response Kolek posted his grades, so now he's trolling him again

Well, its clear that Bilas likes pace, all 3 of those teams are top 35 in the country in tempo. I'm not convinced that is what wins comes tournament time, but Bilas has always been a proponent of turning CBB into the NBA so I'm not surprised.

Its just a twitter meme that started with another tweet saying he can't read

Good post. Almost every program builds through hiring those up and coming guys, we are lucky to have the top up-and-comer be an alum. One note: I like TJ Otz a lot, but from what I hear he is very entrenched at ISU. Multiple stints as an Asst there. Super close with the AD, cosy with their donor base. Not impossible for him to leave but I would be shocked. -

I think how the season ends definitely matters, but yeah this decision isn't going to be based on one game. From my perception of Dolson, I think he wants to move on. But right now he is insulated from the consequences of a failed hire because Quinn loves Woody. I don't think he wants to expose himself to the risk of making his own hire or pissing them off unless things are really bad, so he's looking for a couple wins to allow him to build a narrative for himself keeping Woodson. Before NW I thought he needed 3-4 in the last 7 to be safe, so I think he's 2 away from safety IMO. But right now probably 50/50 -

If I'm the AD, I would have never hired Woodson and I would move on now. But we are all being naive if we ignore that there are university politics at play here. If you're the AD at IU, your job is tied to your basketball coaching hires. So if it's me, I'm going out and hitching my wagon to someone I believe in. But if I'm the AD I also understand that I am a state employee who cannot spend 10+ million easily, much less twice in a year, and whose job is dependent on good relationships with donors and my bosses on the BoT, both of which could potentially be jeopardized by firing Woodson. I get money hasn't always been the issue but it's bigger than that, no University administrator wants the microscope that comes with 2 buyouts in a year. Dolson is working uphill here, he won't put himself out on a 12 Million dollar limb against Woody's supporters unless the clear upgrade is in hand or things get so bad that he has overwhelming support for a move. -

Never seen this board so upset over a win lol. I live up here in Madison, and I had to watch them smack us in person so I really appreciate the team pulling together for that one I've said from the beginning that Woody only needs to give the AD a reason not to fire him. They don't wanna go through the money, donors, BoT, but they need something to build a narrative on. I think as of now, he has flipped the odds once again in his favor. It's not quite over, 0-4 still gets him fired imo but I think 1 more win puts it at 50/50, 2 more makes him likely safe. I said the same thing about Tom Allen. He had it when he beat Wisconsin, but couldn't pull out any of the last 3. No matter what, I expect a staff shake-up this offseason. One way or another I don't see the Woody tenure lasting past next year anyway, all his buyout leverage will be gone, he will still lack recruiting momentum, and he will be 67. I will be really upset about losing another great in-state class to Purdue and having to watch another year of this system but I'm confident we at least won't be as bad as this year. Another year isn't ideal, but I will still hold out hope. There will still be young, promising coaches whose dream job is IU in a year. The major risk is Dusty taking OSU or another P5 job, meaning if we wanted him in 1 year we would have to pay a massive buyout. I still think he would leave any job for us, but it certainly makes it more difficult. Shrews has now won 4 of 5 and has the sixth-youngest team in the country playing top 30 defense. They will be competitive next year. So one more year won't kill the program or our chance of finding a good coach. But I guess we will see how the final games play out -

Do we think Pearl would be able to recruit the state? I know he has won everywhere he's been but preferably the next coach is also able to reverse the current trends with ND, PU, Butler and ISU all having serious momentum in-state. -

Great post. I think you hit it on the head. We should all draw the line before Beard, but we can (and have) disagree about Pearl. To be clear, some in the fanbase have advocated for Beard but I didn't mean to insinuate that some people here wanted a bad guy. I shouldn't be passing judgment on his character, I think I mentioned a few posts ago that I am open to hearing what positive stuff everyone has to say regarding his character/ time at USI. I still would prefer that IU run a clean program, but in the age of NIL that is certainly less important than it once was. Overall, if our options are Pearl and May I think we are in a pretty good spot. -

Fair. I guess what I was saying is there is a difference between operating in a grey area and having multiple infractions and a 3 year show cause like Pearl. I think there's an argument to be made that that stuff is legal now tho -

I get where you're coming from, but I don't get this reasoning. You presuppose that you have to cheat or bend the rules to win. Coaches known for being "by the book" - Brad Stevens, Roy Williams, Tony Bennett, Matt Painter, Jay Wright, Tom Izzo, John Beilein. We all want to win. I think that those of us who also want us to run a clean program with a good man as head coach also have valid points. -

Inarguable. Having the hottest name in mid-major coaching as a backup is a pretty good spot to be, regardless of your opinion on him. -

At this point, I think IU has proven that they can find the money for buyouts. The big donors consistently step up. The question for Dolson is twofold: does firing Woodson jeopardize relationships with any of those donors (Cooks), and once we have the buyout money, will we be able to sufficiently outbid another power program with way more football money. Make no mistake, Auburn wouldn't just let him walk, so hopefully his quotes about it being his dream job are true and our facilities, history, BBall NIL etc. help push us over the edge. -

The question is going to be how much Pearl actually likes this job. If Auburn sees him leaving they will pony up, I'm not sure IU has the money to beat their offer by a significant amount. They could promise him that his son will get the job. They could offer him the practice facility. And whatever they offer him, it won't be reduced by having to pay their own coaches buyout. We will see if he covets IU enough that he would jump here for a similar amount of $$$ as Auburn's return offer. -

I may be wrong but I believe the injunction against enforcing the 2 time transfer rule is still in effect so anyone can transfer with immediate eligibility
