That's a tough call. Sampson no doubt is an exceptional coach. But he obviously broke rules and seemed to have recruited some shady dudes ... I think trying to be overly virtuous is an exercise in futility, but I definitely don't want to turn into another UNLV.

    2019 Coaching Carousel

Not necessarily a carousel item, but Danny Manning stays put at Wake Forest. He's 65-93 in five seasons. Wake has had six 20-loss seasons in 113 years; half are Manning's. Puzzling ... Although, the AD is retiring in May. I'd suspect if the Miracle Man doesn't win 20 games and the Deacs make the postseason next season, the new guy will make a change.

I pretty much listened to the whole thing. I also found it interesting that he said Mack, Holtmann and Archie were our most realistic candidates. All three were pretty much interchangeable, but he seemed to imply that Mack might've been the best choice for us. The reason being that Mack has a bigger personality and is more of a press-the-flesh kind of guy -- he's good at speaking, working the media, etc., which like it or not, what you have to do when you're the IU coach. That said, he did say that he thought Archie was a good hire. ... The other thing that really stood out to me was that when Crean went to visit Kyrie Irving's home, IU was in the lead to get him. After Crean left, we had no chance. (Other than the silly story about taking a dump and not flushing, how do things go THAT bad in the span of a couple hours!)

    College Bball Thread

This line was in ESPN's story about Drew, and is highly inaccurate ... Anybody who knows anything about college basketball knows "The Shot" was Keith Smart's bucket in 1987!!! He's perhaps best known for "The Shot" that helped Valparaiso beat Ole Miss at the buzzer in the 1998 NCAA tournament.

According to Goodman, this was the first time the AD and Drew had met. Turner: "Hi Bryce, I'm Malcolm Turner, the new director of athletics." Drew: "Hello. Nice to know you." Turner: "Well, to tell you the truth, you won't know me for long. ... You're fired."

It's easy for me to say this, but if that is true (regardless if it was Beilein or someone else), if I were Rick Greenspan, I would've said to Herbert: "You either let me hire the coaches, or you find a new AD."

Not sure I buy the whole Izzo thing -- I've never even heard that. Why would he want to come down from MSU? He was beating us and out-recruiting us already anyway ... As far as the others: Alford has proven to be no better than Crean, and I want no part of Calipari or Pitino, and I'm guessing after the Sampson debacle, the administration didn't, either. Stevens? By the time he became a proven commodity, we already were entrenched in the Crean years, and his buyout was massive. Plus, IMO, the timing was never right to make a move on Crean. The two years after we crapped our pants against Syracuse weren't good, but in the second year, we made the NCAAs and the year after that we won the B1G and reached the Sweet 16. Yes, things were trending downward with recruiting in the state, but he had the buyout and at least on the surface, seemed to be doing just enough to keep his head above water.
  15. Play hard. Get the ball inside. That was the recipe for success tonight. Why did it take that long to figure it out.
  16. No, and to me, that's odd ... I thought when we did play well in the first half, we had De'Ron and Juwan in at the same time.
  17. I have the stats going in another window, and they update about 3-4 seconds before what I'm seeing on TV.
  18. Dakich said he played for him at Bowling Green.
  19. Justin just has way too much going on in his shot. He needs to quiet it down a bit. Or limit the movement. Or something. But what he's doing isn't working.
  20. Devonte plays hard, but his decision-making is just deplorable.
  21. With the complete lack of effort in the last 10 minutes of the first half and the sloppiness throughout, if we were playing a B1G team, we'd be down by 25 points now.
  22. With Smith, I'd settle for 15 out of 20!
  23. Dakich just said he's shaving his head after the season. I wanna see that ...
