What is your criteria? Active college BB coaches? You didn't specify. If you want people under 50 who've led teams to a Final Four -- there are probably quite a few.

The announcers and studio analysts are busy singing sad songs for Woody. Meanwhile, we're getting our a$$es handed to us on the court. Which is why the sad songs are being sung in the first place. Guess that's lost on them.

Announcer said Woody told them the kids are kinda hurt right now -- they didn't see this coming. Is he serious? Stevie Wonder saw this coming.

Not seeing why Brownell is getting so many mentions. He's been to four NCAAs in 14 seasons at Clemson. If he weren't from Evansville, I can almost guarantee you he wouldn't be on anyone's list. He'd probably be better than Woody, but much like we hired Woody only because he's an IU legend, Brownell is only a "candidate" because he's from Indiana.

Watching ESPN's "Gameday" ... They're doing a short segment on Woody and IU. Before cutting to Pete Thamel, Rece Davis said: "And now, more from Pete Thamel -- who was the first to report that the sides were working on Woodson's retirement" -- or something along those lines (not Rece's exact quote). Had to chuckle at that. Pete Thamel is light years behind everyone here. LOL!

Coach K is sorta an example. With his soft-spoken, nasally voice -- he, most of the time, came off as a pretty nice guy. "I love my players. They love me. We're all one big happy Blue Devil family." But I understand he was a real SOB in practice and was as intense and foul-mouthed as anyone.

Beard's "candidacy" is such an enigma. In an alternate world, he'd be my No. 1 choice -- even over Stevens (I know -- I'm crazy. Just my opinion, however.). Unfortunately, the baggage and the unknowns exist. When it comes to basketball: IU vs. Mississippi is a no-brainer. I would think 10 out of 10 hard-core coaches would pick IU six days a week and twice on Sundays. I suspect Beard's reported sudden strong interest in us is born out of wanting to get into a better basketball circumstance more so than paying homage to RMK. But consider this: With no issues, he's still at Texas, his alma mater. And that seemingly was where he wanted to be -- more than anywhere else. If he were still at UT, would he have any interest in our opening this time? My guess: probably not.

Yep. And the legacies of two Hoosier basketball legends -- Mike Woodson and Quinn Buckner -- are now very much tarnished. In a way, it's almost kinda sad.
