There's plenty he could have done. He could have stopped before getting to the bag. Or he could have slid into it. It was a reckless, stupid play -- not a freak accident. That space belonged to the baserunner. No need for him to cross into it.

So, this just happened in Houston -- Sunday Night Baseball on ESPN. Luis Arraez of the Padres was knocked cold. Was carted off the field after about a 15-minute delay. Obviously, there was no ill intent -- but what an incredibly stupid play by the Houston kid. If you're a second baseman covering first, you gotta figure out some way to stop -- maybe you slide into the bag. But you can't run through it like that. Good grief. The announcers were trying to cut him a break, saying it wasn't his fault and it wasn't avoidable. It was totally his fault and was completely avoidable. https://x.com/TalkinBaseball_/status/1914097293143195835

Interesting take from the young Ms. Goodman. Not sure I agree, however. Bargesser is very athletic -- great foot speed, can defend pretty well and is a good ball-handler. But she couldn't throw the ball into the ocean, and doesn't have great basketball skills. I suppose she makes a nice point guard, if you're OK with your point guard not scoring much. As far as a "ton of growth" -- I thought she was better as a sophomore. https://x.com/TaliaGoodmanWBB/status/1913702229758075105 -
A big negative -- he looks like the Amish kid at Purdue! LOL.

According to his Instagram, Carlyle is down to McNeese, FAU and UAB. Pretty significant drop from the B1G and former Pac-12. I check Twitter and Instagram every now and then on Bryson Tucker -- I haven't seen one word about his recruitment since he announced for the portal. Find that kinda interesting. I'm sure there's some news out there. I just haven't seen anything.

I have a 14-year-old pooch. She doesn't move quite like a puppy any longer -- but she's hanging in there. Her quality of life took a significant upturn once she stopped drinking and smoking. -

Lexus Bargesser and a Virginia transfer are visiting West Lafayette this weekend. After living and studying on the Bloomington and Charlottesville campuses, their reactions to PUke (appropriately named) were caught on hidden camera. -

John Hugley IV goes full circle. Headed back to the city of Pittsburgh for his sixth -- yes, sixth -- season of college hoops. Had three at Pitt (two appear to be redshirts), one at Oklahoma, one at Xavier and now -- he's on his way to Duquesne. Maybe the Squish that Saved Pittsburgh???

Bucknell transfer Ashley Sofilkanich has committed to Michigan -- per Talia Goodman. The 6-3 sophomore averaged 19.7 ppg, 8.4 rpg, 3 apg and 2.2 bpg this season. Not sure how good she is, but on paper -- it looks as if a B1G rival picks up a nice piece. -

Never said we were getting McMahon. Never said I thought she was an option. Never said I wanted her at IU. Never said Moren wanted her. I was just posting the news that a B1G player was on the move. As far as I know, this thread is not necessarily all about IU. If it is, I will no longer post such news. -
Every time I see Goodman now, I can't help but think of a YouTube video he did after we hired D-Rock. He said he was visiting his daughter at IU and had a prearranged meeting with Dolson. This just happened to come soon after the announcement that Woody would not return. "I told him he ought to call T.J. Otzelberger," Goodman said of his chat with Dolson. Offering an athletic director advice on whom to hire for a major job? Takes smug and arrogant to a whole new level. I'm sure Scott said, "Hang on a sec. Lemme write this down. T.J. ... can ya spell that last name for me?"
