Maybe someone else has an interest in this as well, but every time I think about IU taking the “cheap” way out, compared to what we could pay a coach, I get annoyed. Maybe this has changed a lot in 2 years, and if so, maybe someone could share an update. My point is that IU is 3rd on this list regarding revenue the men’s bball team brings in. I averaged the salaries of the top 10 coaches on that list and came up with $4.7 million/annually. If you average the top 5? It’s $6.5 million. It just confirms what others have said before- we’re a top-tier program when it comes to $$$, but we don’t actually pay the coach like it. It’s easy for me to say that Dolson should throw top money at someone (like Stevens), but to me, this says it should be feasible. Come on, Scott. Do it for the glory of old IU! I gotta say, this thread is a little slower than I anticipated it would be tonight. Like others have said, I’m excited for a coaching search, anxious and don’t honestly have much faith that they’ll get the new hire right, and just ready for a new era. That being said, still pretty depressed we even got to this point. I think I really like Archie the person and his background. Wish it had worked out, for so many reasons. For the naysayers...just let me have this. I saw earlier that Stevens’ salary is about $3.6 million annually? Is that right? Just a tick above what we pay Archie. By the way, Archie’s salary is good for 20th in CBB. Even with the losses and Covid and such, you can’t tell me they couldn’t throw a much bigger number at him. Make him top 5 or top 3 paid in college! As others have said, can’t tell me he wouldn’t rake in the cash for them. Less travel than NBA, closer to family, away from Boston (my wife lived there and personally, as small town Indiana kids, we’d never live there again-winters are brutal), and better pay? I echo the sentiment that I really wanted Archie to be the guy. Even as your typical, high-expectation IU fan, I feel like I’ve been patient- I grew up about 20 minutes from campus and growing up, Dad and I never missed a game. For the first year ever, I’ve intentionally watched only about half of games. I tuned in for Purdue and really wish I hadn’t. We all know what to expect by now and it’s just more of the same, awful product on the floor. It’s totally turned me off. I say all this just because I feel like a lot of Hoosier Nation feels this way. We need someone who can inject new life into the program. I’m a little old school in that I want a coach that will chew kids up and hold them responsible. Unfortunately, I’m not sure that cuts it anymore-kids and parents don’t put up with that like they used to. So I could really get behind someone like CTA, whose players will go to war for them. IUBB doesn’t have that anymore. For me, like others, the list pretty well starts and ends with Beard. I do want to see what he does the rest of this season. I do have pipe dreams like Stevens, but that’s not gonna happen. I’m sorry, but anyone less than Beard is settling, which is what we have become accustomed to as a fan base. Coaching has been a strength most of the year, but I’m 100% putting this on them today. Thought defensive effort and tackling was poor. Tuttle didn’t play awesome, but play calling was pretty awful. Just super disappointed. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners
