(2018) SG Romeo Langford - INDIANA HOOSIERS
IUrocker replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Yep that's what i was thinking. It seemed to be a perfect game for Romeo to see with his own eyes that he's gonna have the coaching and pieces around him to be really good, and just need that elite scorer such as himself to make it all work and put us over the top. I believe Robert Phinisee was there at the game as well, so I'm hoping he talked with him about how great they could be if he committed here. People say that Romeo is holding off so he can see how his top 3 schools end up doing, but I actually look at the other side of it as well and think that maybe he could be looking at how our 2018 commits are doing at their high schools so he can see how good the players will be that he will be playing with at IU....and if THAT is the case, then there should be plenty for him to like with the recruits we have coming in next year, because our recruits are having excellent seasons. -

I saw on another site that there's a rumor on Peegs saying Romeo is going to announce on ESPN on Friday and him being at the game was to inform Archie of his decision. ...not sure whether there's truth, just sharing. -
IU vs Northwestern 1/14/18 Game Thread
IUrocker replied to Brass Cannon's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
The only games I've been able to actually sit down and watch on TV this year due to not having to work are Indiana State, IPFW (was in Assembly for that one), Louisville, Wisconsin, Seton Hall, and Michigan (all losses).....I'm never watching a game again and plan on working every day of the week, lol. -
Uggh, Purdue does indeed look good, as much as I hate to say it. Have hit 6-7 so far from behind the arc against Michigan.

Looking forward to the days of me looking at the schedule and thinking “oh, ok good, we just play Penn State tonight.” I didn’t get to watch the Minnesota game but was excited to see Justin Smith start and do so well. I’ve been a fan of his ever since he committed. Now that he has his chance to show what he can do, I hope he cherishes his opportunity and keeps up the solid play for us, as I’m thinking he has the ability to do so. -

Looking at the stat sheet, the 3 players with the least amount of minutes in the game were Newkirk, Green, and McSwain, while mostly everyone else was able to shine. Honestly it makes sense to me that we were able to do well and get the W with those 3 getting less time on the court. I surely hope they can contribute more and I will root them on, but the way this season has gone so far and everyone's performances, us getting the win and having Smith be able to play as much as he did while Newkirk, Green, and McSwain spent more time on the bench makes complete sense to me. -

Bingo. This isn’t Archie’s fault at all. I feel bad for him as well. This year’s roster is full of players he definitely would not have recruited himself and all he can do is deal with it and do the best he can with what he has. These kids (aside from a couple) just don’t look like they want to have to play as hard as Archie wants them to. If any of them want to transfer after this season because they feel like this isn’t what they signed up for when they came to IU for Crean then so be it. I’m surely gonna continue to root them on this year, but it’s gonna give me headaches and heartaches. Next year’s roster is gonna be full of players who want to play for and believe in ARCHIE and the results/differences are gonna show. -
I guess I just don’t understand why players go with the “we didn’t come out ready to play mentally” comment after loses. The way I see, you need to play as if EVERY game is a Duke game, regardless of who the opponent is. I’d like to think their mental state should be the exact same going into every single game, which is to play your absolute freakin hardest, have that tough hard-nosed grit about yourself that says “we WILL NOT lose this game.” Easier said than done I guess? Yogi had that mentality about him, especially his senior year. I bet you we start to see that with a roster full of Archie recruits. In the meantime, I’ll continue to watch every game this year and root for this year’s team, hoping they come together as a group to decide enough is enough, we can do this. Let’s get this back on track tonight.

IUBB vs Fort Wayne - 12/18 @ 8:00 E.T.

Agreed. This is what I’ve been thinking as well. Some of these players are probably thinking screw this, not what I signed up for, which in a way I get I suppose, but makes me feel even worse for Archie. There’s quite a bit of IU fans I’ve seen on other sites saying things like they thought Archie was supposed to be better than this, we hired the wrong guy, blah blah. I, on the other hand, am completely aboard the Archie train. These are most likely a group of players that he wouldn’t have even recruited himself if he was already coach at IU. I always thought most of Crean’s teams were soft and didn’t have that tough, killer, go-get-em instinct, other than a few select players of course. This group of kids are used to a completely different style, and a coach that most likely didn’t get on them about things CAM does. I too wouldn’t be surprised to see one or two more players bailing on Archie at year's end. I honestly think 3 of the currently signed players for next years class are good enough to come in and be in the starting lineup. Phinisee is an obvious need at point guard, Hunter is a great player, and Anderson can flat out shoot the ball. The “we may have hired the wrong guy” talk I’ve been seeing lately on other sites is waaaaay too premature. -

What drives me nuts is it’s the stupid turnovers that just make you scream “are you kidding me??!! Why would you do that??!” Just careless, low IQ, half-a$$ stuff that really isn’t Archie’s fault and are things most of these kids have done their entire time at IU. Obviously it drives Archie crazy. It really is mind boggling to think we played so well against Duke and then look like this in other games against far less superior talent. Whether we had the home court advantage or not, it’s still the same players out on the court who should KNOW they need to be giving the same effort out there regardless of who they play. Treat every team like they are the #1 team in the nation!! -

Maybe we'll get lucky and Allen won't make the "trip"... -
oh, i absolutely agree that it's all of them, i was just trying to be nice on here, haha. I definitely like your way of stating it better...and believe me, i sure as heck make sure i let them know what i think of them when they have something to say!!

Uggh, already sick of my Purdue co-workers giving me the 'ol "how about them Hoosiers?!"....if they only knew what's coming...all of them are just about the most ignorant, immature people you'll ever meet, too. (Not saying all purdue fans are, but these particular guys certainly fit the bill). They seem to care more about how bad IU does rather than how well their team does. My obsession with IUBB let's it really get under my skin, haha.

Heck, it could be our night to drain 17 3’s...seems unlikely, but I bet Indiana State thought the same thing. Still scared though, yet anxious to watch another game! They really do need to start NOT playing like “boys” though, that’s for sure. -

So refreshing to have a coach with that mindset. I’m sure he’s frustrated so far with the lack of effort, but it’s to be expected in a way I suppose, just because of what most of the players are used to being coached by Crean. Crean recruited and coached “we need to outscore our opponent to win”, while Archie is “we need to prevent our opponent from scoring as much as we do.” Crean’s philosophy backfired big time if the team wasn’t hitting shots. When I saw that screenshot of the bench after the Howard game of most of the players having dejected faces, I was hoping it meant they were thinking they can and should do better if they want a chance to compete this year, rather than thinking “screw this, I don’t want to have to play this way.” I definitely liked the way Durham and Smith played, and am on board with them getting more minutes. Fortunately for them, Crean’s opposite way of coaching compared to Archie’s was never instilled into their heads, so obviously they don’t really have any old habits they need to break. -

..and boy, am I looking forward to a roster full of those tough, hard-nosed kids that fit Archie’s criteria. Archie hit the nail on the head when he commented after the Indiana State game that the team is “soft”. Although I appreciate everyone IU has on its roster and will always root them on, it’s definitely the truth. Crean recruited and coached teams that were “let’s just try to win games by outscoring the opponent”, while Archie’s mindset is “let’s prevent teams from scoring as much as we do”. The current roster just isn’t used to knowing how to do that, and Archie knows it. Crean’s philosophy backfired hardcore if the team wasn’t hitting their shots. That screenshot of the IU bench after the Howard game told a tale, which I hope is one way rather than the other. I’m hoping it was the players being down in the dumps that they know they can and should do better, rather than thinking “wow, I don’t want to have to play this way.” -

I’m from the Fort Wayne area. If a kid from one of our local schools announced at his school that he was going to Duke, people from their school aren’t gonna be like “uggh, you should have stayed home and went to IPFW!!”. They are gonna be excited, pumped, and proud that he was going to play basketball at a big school like Duke. (I’m not trying to compare Vanderbilt and IPFW as basketball destinations, only as local stay home schools). This is why I don’t think it matters that he is announcing at his school. I’d like to think that if he chose IU, people in his area are gonna think it’s a big deal and be excited for him because they know IU is a big deal. -

I almost wonder if Darius and Romeo chat with each other and talk about exactly what’s going on with all the anticipation these two have built up among the IU and Vandy fans. If so, then I don’t see Romeo listing Vandy in his top three as an issue. He knows Darius has a top two of IU and Vandy, so Romeo keeping Vandy and IU in his top three keeps up the anticipation and excitement of their recruitment. May sound silly, but with big recruits like this, knowing they are interested in playing with each other, keeping a couple of the same schools on their list instills the speculation until it’s all said and done. -

Nice, yep that’s an early start to the day! My place of employment only has two shifts, 1st starts at 3:00am, 2nd at 3:00pm. I’ve been there 13 years and about 7 of it was on the 3:00am start. Even though I did it that long I still couldn’t get my body to be ok with getting up at 1:45am to go into work.
