Yeah I’m trying to remember the days leading up to Crean being gone...wasn’t there word that there was a decent chance he was staying and people who wanted him out got panicky? Or were the winds all blowing in the same direction with him that he was for sure gonna be gone at this point of that season?

Sorry to go back to this, but is it thought now that Tom Allen’s raise has nothing to do with showing signs that we could be moving on with a different coach and paying him more than what Archie is making? I know people have started to become uneasy about the possibility of coming back, but if Dolson’s thinking is give Tom Allen a raise and then go out and get a different coach which would obviously cost more than Archie’s salary, then maybe the signs are still there that a move is going to be made. I just didn’t know if anyone thinks that it’d make complete sense for Dolson to just give Tom a raise but keep Archie and IU basketball in the state that their in. A part of me wants to think, whether it’d wishful thinking, that Dolson doesn’t want to play around and is gonna pay up to get someone else in here to get things turned around...even if it may not be Brad Stevens.

On his radio show Archie mentioned the difference between this year and last is that this year the teams at the top of the Big Ten are even better, mentioning Michigan, Ohio State, Illinois, and Iowa...well heck, 3 of those 4 teams have coaches that were hired the same year and after he was hired at IU. Why can’t you be up there with them Archie? Im sick of him saying things like “well we played a tough team in Michigan, they’re ranked #2 for a reason”...I don’t want to hear that. It should be IU ranked up there right along with them and we’re not.

With all this thread has been through, Archie coming back for a 5th year just sounds so boring. I guess I just don’t see how transfers are gonna help him too much from becoming a stellar team and be so much more successful. If he couldn’t get the players he already picked to produce, then how will he get transfers he picks to produce? I can see it both ways to where 1. We actually don’t have as good of players as we think and we need some new faces, but 2. We actually do have a solid roster and a different coach would be able to get them to produce at a higher level. They say Archie’s defense takes a couple/few years to get into place and be solid, so what if he gets a bunch of new faces. How are they gonna be successful next year in his system their first go around? Our defense has actually gotten worse here lately and the players should know exactly how to make it work and they aren’t. There definitely seems to be a disconnect between Archie and the team and he doesn’t act like a coach how knows how to figure things out. People think we will lose a handful of the players we like on the team if Archie is gone, but I honestly don’t think so. I think they’d be more than willing to stay and play for a new coach. They genuinely seem to enjoy IU. I guess I just feel worried about seeing a repeat of this year next if he returns, and even if he happens to finish top 5 in the conference once the other teams have a down year, does Archie get extended for doing better? And then what happens when the other teams reload...Archie back to finishing 10th in the league again? I want to be elite because our coach is legit and knows how to get everything out of his players...not because the rest of the conference happened to give Archie a favor by having a down year.

Let’s say Scott Drew is indeed contacting IU behind the scenes with interest in the job...is he someone Dolson would consider a serious candidate and make his job of getting rid of Archie easier knowing he’s got him on the line?
-
I like that guess better than mine, ha
-
He said “doh!” like Homer from the Simpsons...Republic as in Texas...Houston is in Texas..Simpson..SAMPSON.
-
So even though we aren’t sure of the exact list of candidates, is it indeed safe to say Archie will be gone at seasons end, or is even that still up in the air? Thanks
-
Yep. I understand the difficulties that come with playing in a larger stadium like that with the depth perception and larger area, etc...that stuff is indeed real...but for him to bring that up in the first place, knowing darn well he has a poor shooting team, just looks like “hey just a heads up, when we start the game 0-9 from three and miss a lot of bunnies, it’s gonna be because we’re in Lucas Oil, not because it’s what we’ve done all year...”
-
Agreed, and definitely makes the thought of who Dolson will be trying to go after pretty exciting, knowing this is showing signs of him willing to pay the big bucks. Like you said, no way the basketball coach will make less than Allen. Dolson is a basketball guy and he’s going to want to make this hire with his name on it a good one.
-
Hopefully the TA raise, which he does indeed deserve, won’t have anything to do with putting a limitation on getting a high end basketball coach. Maybe it’s just a matter of Dolson just taking the reigns and saying “Let’s get Tom what he deserves, and now let’s get basketball back on top.”
-
I just wonder if a name like Andy Enfield is going to be one of many that are underwhelming being thrown out there as some smoke because we truly have a bigger fish on the line....my hopes at least. I’d just like to think Dolson wants to get this right and see IU basketball get back to where it’s supposed to be.
-
If they are reaching out, would that cause more believe and proof that a move is going to be made after this season, or not necessarily?
-
On a scale of 1-10, 10 being definitely gone...what’s the chance of Archie being gone this season, regardless of who we get to replace him?
-
Sorry if I misunderstood...do you mean Scott Dolson’s mind is made up about moving on from Archie? Thanks
-
With everything people are hearing at this point, I wonder if it’s more than a 50/50 shot that he’s gone this season, or if it still isn’t even safe to say it’s that high. There definitely seems to be plenty of smoke, and the talk about replacements is pretty high. Hopefully it doesn’t end up being a situation where hopes are sky high thinking there’s for sure going to be a change, but then end up with a big letdown by him being back. That could make things even worse as far as fan support, I would think obviously.

My God that last sentence sends chills down my spine, lol. I really hope it can be more reality than most people think. A sentence like that is way more than wishful thinking. I hope you’re right!

Just curious as to what the timeframe would be in getting a new coach if Archie is let go? How soon after the season ends and he is gone would we know who the next coach would be? I can’t remember how long it took us to find out Archie was the guy after Crean.
-
Chris007: I know talk has been about who we will get to replace and realistic options, but was wondering what percentage you’d put on it that Archie is indeed gone after this season? Thanks

2019 Off-Season IU Roster News and Moves
IUrocker replied to CrossboneIU22's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
So is it too late in the day now for any news on more transfers I’m guessing? I know Chris007 said he heard either today or the weekend, but maybe today won’t be it. -
2019 Off-Season IU Roster News and Moves

If it is indeed more than one player just today that are being added to the list of transfers out, I’d like to think (and hope) that Archie has a plan set out with players he knows are going to take their spots, instead of it being a case of “well we got rid of who we wanted, so now what?” I’m leaning more towards the think than the hope. I just can’t see all these players being gone and Archie not have replacements in mind that are pretty much locked in to take over. Although it’s never really fun to see kids have to move elsewhere, it’s also exciting to see what Archie is able to create now that it appears he’s taken the bull by the horns and making a roster of his liking. -

If any other transfers were happening, would we have known of them by now and the news been released? I’m not saying I hope to see anyone else go, but it sure helps paint a better picture of the situation heading into next season as far as how many more guys we have to try to get to commit if additional players on the current roster aren’t going to be here. -
(2019) SF Keion Brooks Jr. to Kentucky
IUrocker replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
I'm definitely excited about having TJD and Franklin. Even though we would have obviously welcomed Keion's talent and it would have been nice if he joined us, not getting him is not that big of a deal to me knowing we have the other two in the bag. I know we lose Juwan and most likely Romeo, but having TJD and Armaan join the lineup with a healthy (hopefully) Hunter, we for sure have the potential to be better next year. If Hunter is healthy and can be 100% for the season, i'm probably excited about him the most. If he was available this season we wouldn't have been in the bubble situation we are in. -
(2019) SF Keion Brooks Jr. to Kentucky

I think it’d be different if Trayce and Armaan were going to support their friend as kids who were NOT already committed to the school Keion may announce. The fact that Trayce and Armaan are going and are committed players to a team in his top 2 has to mean something positive for us. Who knows, Keion could have contacted them himself to tell them they ought to come....and if he DID do that, then why would he pick the rival school?
