Candidate Thread: Brad Stevens (Boston Celtics)

I’d just like to know how soon we are supposed to standby dangit...like, don’t put my phone down at all cost right now, or not for a couple hours yet, which is it...WHICH IS IT?! -

Not saying it’s likely AT ALL, but if people would think it could be Moser because of the timing since he got bounced yesterday, another coach who got bounced was Jay Wright. -

Im hoping this is an early Easter rabbit out of the hat by Dolson...if it’s Moser and we didn’t even know if we could have gotten the coaches still in the tournament then I’m gonna start looking around the house to find something to break....just a really odd timing knowing it’s right after Loyola got bounced -

If we do indeed get Brad, what is the most likely scenario...we hire someone like Lewis to take over until Brad shows up after the NBA season, or Brad comes before NBA season ends? -

Something that does make me think this could have been arranged a while ago and that Brad was told to just deny deny deny up until this point, is how awkward that one presser was with the Dunkin’ Donuts, Masshole thing. Seemed out of character for him and just things he was trying to come up with to say to get the people in Boston what they wanted to hear. Just my personal opinion. IF he indeed comes to IU then you could probably point to that and would make sense. -
Could it still be too soon to know if Beard would end up being the guy or would they have gotten that over with by now?

A scenario where I could see that it’s not over with Brad, is he and is wife are smart people and know now this works. IU offered him to come here. He knows darn well obviously that he’s a hot commodity here and that people see him as the Golden Boy. He and his lawyer wife also know that if the Boston higher ups love him as much as they think they do, they will want to try to keep him. So they flirt with the idea of coming to IU (not to play us but seriously considering), and then figure Boston will try to match the offer and give a raise. Okay, so they do, and leads people to think he was just trying to play us to stay in Boston but get more money out of them....but then on top of all that, knowing as said before that he knows IU REALLY wants him, figure IU will most likely come back with EVEN MORE money to go higher than Boston matching our first offer, and then he takes it. Idk, was just thinking about it for a couple days. Not saying it’s all correct and how it is, but something to ponder. -

I’m not saying I think it means he will be our coach, but I agree that it definitely doesn’t sound like things he would say normally and were completely pointing away from just flat out answering the question. The things he said were things that seem like something people in Boston “would want to hear” and really make them think he’s trying to be one of them....but again, I don’t wanna jump onto any theories....does seem odd though, I would agree, and makes it interesting. Again, I’m not trying to rationalize as to hold out hope, but it’s just an out of the box way of thinking about it. -
I like Beard. Seems he would bring the fire and passion we thought we would see from Archie but never did. Looks like he gets the fight out of his players. I think he’d understand what being at IU is all about and realize the expectations. His comments after their tournament win were funny too....”I want to thank Mr. Lunardi. He never picks us and our guys kind of feed off this....Not sure if he got a speeding ticket in Lubbock back in the day or whatever, but we made a run in the last tournament and we intend to make a run again.”

I agree completely. People are trying to think outside the box with what he was saying, and I get it, but yes if I were him I’d wanna be getting the IU train rolling as soon as I could if I knew I was coming here. -

I see there’s some people on Facebook who still think it could be Brad. Saying any good coach would cover it up and deny like that until season is over... saying he used the long winded response (swerve while driving, donuts, patriots) to a very simple question, showing a sign that someone is trying to divert attention way from the question. I don’t know whether to laugh or put my thinking cap on. I’m sure coming up with theories like that ends up being wishful thinking on their part when people dive into it like that. I believe the ship has sailed, but my some miracle he ends up being the coach, I’m gonna be like holy s*** he’s good, ha. -

Still feeling good regarding Brad and the negative vibes should stop? Friends texting me worried Dolson is going to plan B. I’m still trying to hold onto hope because of you and 0708. -

I understand IU being fine with finishing out the Celtics season if that’s what he wants, but I just don’t see how the Celtics would be fine with having him stay. Not sure how toxic that’d be with the players knowing their coach is out the door. I’m thinking that even though IU may be ok with it, the Celtics are just gonna let him walk and someone else will be lined up to coach rest of NBA season. -

Wouldn’t it be safe to say she is leaning towards wanting him to take the IU job? Her wanting to come home? -

I’d like to think if it’s indeed Brad then there’s no need to wait here too long at all. He’s not in the NCAA tournament, so not hearing anything until the tournament is over would only lead to speculation that it’s a current coach in the tournament we are getting. If Boston knows he’s leaving it’s not like they have to worry about holding off to tell the players or anything because they can’t leave. Shoot, the only way I could see waiting until the tournament is over is to just try to throw the sly curveball in there making people think it’s someone in the tournament and then BOOM, the Brad news drops...but reason why that doesn’t make too much sense is why would the Celtics have Brad continue to coach all the way until the tournament is over if they know he’s out the door...that would just seem awkward for the player/coach aspect of it. -

Let’s say they do announce it today before the first game tips off....one of the national guys will prob throw a bomb on the net before it shows up on TV. -

I’m just so excited to expect good basketball again, the way IU basketball is supposed to look. I know the folks who were around during the 70s and 80s got to witness it, and now I feel like my generation (im 35) will get to witness it as well. I expect a lot out of Brad, but only because he’s a great coach and will know exactly what Indiana basketball is supposed to represent. I dont expect us to be national title contenders right off the bat, but I’m confident Brad will get us there sooner than later. Seriously one of the most exciting times IU has had in a long time, and I’m so glad to be around to be a part of it. -

At this point, probably the next best piece of news would be if the insiders found out when the announcement and press conference is gonna be. My Lord would that put a lot of minds at ease, haha. -

Celtics play tomorrow night. It’d be so cool to not see him there coaching it. Doubt it though. If he wasn’t then that’d obviously give it away. -

I’d like to think maybe his wife being a lawyer/his agent would help things on his part as far as being able to leave and having things all set up, but I guess terms and conditions would be the same no matter who his agent is.
