IUBB vs Wisconsin - Tuesday, 02.27.24 @ 7:00 on Peacock
IUrocker replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Wisconsin was making their comeback so Quinn pulled the alarm -
I doubt this is the case, but wouldn’t it be neat if the team as been told that Woodson is going to “retire” after the season so they’re all coming together as a group to try to send things off on a high note, which is why they’re playing like they are tonight? (fingers crossed ha)

Wisconsin is the perfect type of team that will get under X’s skin for another flagrant. They seem to love pushing people’s buttons and make it a point to try to use to their advantage. -
At this point are you 100% sure we are done with Woodson after THIS season and now it’s just a matter of waiting to see who they officially get to replace him?
-
-
This is 100% happening in regards to the end of THIS season, correct? Like even if we have to end up going with option D who we know will take the job, it’s going to be for when this season is finished and we know Woodson is gone?
-
I would be thrilled with Pearl for 5-7 years to get us consistently winning, while Dusty May uses those 5-7 years at another major school proving himself and ready to come to IU whenever Pearl decides to hang it up.
-
Well where’s the meeting? I’ll go too and you can pass me a note, then everyone can blame me for not being able to keep my mouth shut haha
-
I’m seeing that there’s people/fans on the Auburn side who are getting smoke about Pearl possibly leaving. Not just a matter of them seeing it from our side. Some say it’s BS, some say fine let’s let him walk, and others say they need to make sure they take care of him so that they don’t lose him. I guess he is really wanting/wishing he had a new basketball only practice facility because they share what they have now with other sports at the school. He also wants to make sure his son will be the next guy in line there when/if he does end up being gone. Someone who seems to be their “in the know” guy mentioned signing a different apparel company and getting a new practice facility would be the two big things Auburn could do to get him to stay if he wants to leave, and that it’s not Pearl’s style to be trying to get his name floating to other schools just to get a pay bump. Also wanted to add that one of their boards started a thread called “Would CBP leave Auburn?”, and their insider guy responded simply “Yes, but only for IU.”

If we’re hearing this for sure about the players wanting to leave if Woodson is brought back then it makes me really curious to see how they act/play the rest of these games. I mean we kinda thought they had given up already anyways, but now with this latest stuff reaching the surface, it’s like dang, the rest of these games could be uglier than we think in more ways than one.
-
That’s my wishful thinking. That way we can root like heck for the players to win out and it won’t mean it gives Woodson a chance to come back haha

9 Power Fowards/Centers would look really weird..
-
Wouldn’t the fact that players wanting to leave if Woodson came back make Dolson want to get rid of him even more, or not really? Didn’t know if that’d be something that would be cause of concern for Dolson, or it’d be more of a “fine let them go, we’ll find other players in the portal”. Obviously I’m hoping that if the players are wanting to leave if he comes back then it should be all the more reason to say goodbye to the coach.
-
Hopefully Woodson is just kinda being told to change his tone and what he says in the pressers to try and easy the transition of him leaving and someone else coming in so that he doesn’t appear to be the “I’m never wrong and this isn’t my fault” type of guy when he makes his exit. On the other hand, if it’s just him trying to do it on his own to save his own butt and thinking he needs to be the guy next year, then yikes, we’re not buying it. The more quotes that come out of what he’s saying just make me think he’s clueless, untouchable, and unaware of what needs to change, and it won’t happen unless someone tells him he’s gotta go.
-
Next thing he’s gonna say to REALLY make you know he’s full of it now is probably gonna be something like “Guys listen, I don’t know what you’re talking about. I’ve never mentioned any kind of hump…”
-
Get a different one! Yay! I win!
-
Another way you know it’s time to move on and hope he’s gone is when you have friends, coworkers, and just general people online through message boards, forums, facebook, who are fans of other Big Ten schools, all hope that IU keeps Woodson. We’ve just become a big joke and it’s ridiculous. I know people who aren’t IU fans think we have unrealistic expectations of our program, but I’d like to think we are surely correct when I say we are NOT where we belong.
-
Maybe I missed this being discussed, but let’s say they know 100% for sure they are going to move on from Woodson. Will they let him know before the season ends and discuss a plan on how they can make it be announced, or will they not let him know until the season is finished?
-
Yep, like others have said, I could see some of the in-state 25s being committed to us already if it weren’t for Woodson being coach. He plays a style they don’t want to be a part of. Get the right guy in here and there should be no reason we lose all hope on missing out on any of them…would probably help. I’m sure they’re well aware, especially now, that Woodson return is in limbo and are probably in wait and see mode. If announced that he’ll for sure be back, then we’ll prob see them pop for a different school. I think Sisley wants to be here big time but is afraid to play in the system we’re playing now. Get a new exciting coach in here, keep Liam on the train, get some of the 25s to climb aboard, and start rolling.

I was just about to request another shot at a “We did it guys. He’s gone” Chris post, but this one is at least blowing in that direction a bit! Ha
-
Definitely did seem odd that he all of a sudden directed the blame solely toward himself. Agree with others who said it’s almost like someone talked to him about what he says to the press and calling kids out. “I won’t blame my players. I will always blame Mike Woodson.” He knows people haven’t liked his tone and is either being told to change it, or is in desperation BS mode of just trying to make the right people think he’s changing. When he said “I’m not happy with the way I coached this team”, I can see how people may hope that’s some type of message of saying he knows he’s done, but honestly I could see him saying it past tense like that as just speaking about a season that is almost over and looking back on it……. …..but im hoping it’s him knowing he’s done.
-
Something else I was wondering…let’s say Dolson has for sure already started the back channels of speaking with other candidates to replace Woodson and working through all the details involved with it. Isn’t that something the BoTs would have a grasp on as well? Like if Dolson has made the choice by now that we need to move on then would Buckner know about it, and therefore since he’s buddy buddy with Woodson, would let him know already that it’s happening? Maybe this is all stuff that happens behind the scenes that Dolson does on his own without the board even knowing, but if they do then you’d think Buckner would be telling Woodson what’s going on.
-
Sorry, just now kinda catching up on some posts…. You’re 100% sure it’s someone other than Woody after THIS season?
