I'd gamble on the upside of McCollum, but I totally understand this perspective.

To state it differently: no coaches with McCollum's background have succeeded OR failed at IU's level. Absolutely inherent risk in that.

I agree. There just isn't much precedent either way. How that translates is certainly a risk.

There are no D2 coaches who have been as successful as McCollum.

Totally. It isn't a perfect team but it's fun to watch a group that is maximizing what it can do this season and is tough to beat. -

I think the changes to college basketball in terms of NIL will help a good basketball coach without high-level experience like McCollum. You'd have to support him more than an experienced coach but that is manageable.

Would obviously love Luke Murray as an assistant but yeah... gotta think he's going to bide his time for a head coaching job. He'd have to be a top tier candidate for any Big East job that opens given his time at Xavier and UConn (Nova in a year?)
