Nova's coaching search will be really interesting. Collins to UVA makes a lot of sense.

It's going to be a long 3 week. Dammit DoctorP already had this. I'll be better.

I'll point it out incessantly if I'm right and pretend like I was a fan all along if I'm wrong.

I've sat in almost that exact same spot for a Bulls/Pacers game and was very close to asking if the tickets were available for tonight... could have traded IU coaching conspiracy theories during the game.

Exactly where I am and why I'm optimistic that the current situation makes it easier for someone like McCollum to transition that it would have a decade ago.

This counts as a mid-major coach.

Yes. If the attitude going into this is "power conference elite coach or bust" then we haven't paid attention to the state of college basketball. Also, since everyone is getting a little worked out: Osterman did not say that IU is going to hire a mid-major coach. He said the history of these jobs are that they often go to mid-majors and here are some really good mid-major coaches. It was much less inside info and more "general college basketball analysis"

Endless search for coach Amidst the lore of failure Is found our future

However Brad Stevens pronounces it.

Just caught on on the thread for the day in detail and the main takeaway is: The group has really stepped up on the gifs. Be proud of yourselves, folks.

But next November, on the other hand...

Oh I know, I'm just stirring the pot a little bit.. we are getting to tense around !

1a is McCollum and 1b is Brownell

He did say that but the context was he wanted someone who would embrace the portal, not hide from it, and someone who would build culture (paraphrasing a bit). He said something very similar about Cig when he hired Cig. So he was not referring to Cig's level of experience.

I feel very strongly about this. If IU is unable to hire an elite coach, they will hire a coach who is not an elite coach. This is my guarantee.

None of our candidates are sure things and we need to stop thinking about candidate risk as all or nothing. Of course he's not a sure thing. Neither is Beard, even on the court. Nor would Dusty May be. If we think anything less than hiring a guaranteed success as a head coach is a failure then I don't think we're reading the coaching market (or college basketball in general) correctly.

The bigger issue is the show cause penalty that would transfer to IU. I think IU is too risk-adverse to do that.

Goodman's silence on Mark Turgeon speaks volumes.

Good point as well. We shouldn't assume that Dolson is working off the same information as we have because there's every reason to believe he has superior information.

That's certainly reasonable. I'm optimistic that could support him with a really strong GM to help navigate some of the high D1 roster construction, and he would definitely need that. But not a guarantee and I cannot fault your skepticism.
