Transfer Portal w IU Interest
jumpshot53 replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I remember we were all a little nuts after McNeeley de-committed. we were stuck with Woody and we needed players. Those players came and we will get some new guys this year. Good news though, Woody is gone and we will get a team again this year. With our NIL we will be cooking! -

Enright would be a great choice for any team. My goodness, we want a steady, smart great locker room guy to anchor our team. I hope he come to IU. It's about time we use some basketball smarts when we build our team. -

Woodson's name was being discussed loud enough that anyone around the program knew it was happening. The fans were the only ones that were surprised. Tyme?? Seriously, that dude lives to mess with the posters here. He thought Woodson was a good coach, he's not too bright. -

You're right, and it's not only out of respect for our current coach, but for the whole coaching staff. Jordy, Calbert and the rest are still employed. You don't name a new coach until the whole staff is over the hump. -

No no, Few had a DUI. He won't be hired at IU. Not my decision, but that's how it will go. Good news though! We already have our guy! -

I don't think he's had any problems with his kids at Houston. Maybe so, but haven't heard. I'm always amazed how Izzo gets a pass when he had guys sexually assaulting students, not to mention his assistant coach Travis Walton. Can anyone imagine IU hiring Izzo? Lol. -

Not to be unkind, but with Alzheimer's, it's amazing he could remember how to sign his notes the same way every time. That's truly something. -

I love your "how would he do with players who are better at basketball but not as intelligent". Lol, made me laugh. I can relate to that when thinking about some of our team players. Another McCollum thought, maybe he would prefer NOT coaching at Iowa because like Dusty said about coaching where your family lives, if he doesn't do well, it's hard for family members to stay in their hometowns. It isn't the fishbowl that is scary, it's knowing your family becomes an outcast if somethings go wrong. Iowa may not be a fishbowl like IU, but, those Hawkeyes are pretty vocal about Fran, his wife and their kids. They would be the same way with McCollum too. Might be easier to go elsewhere to coach. -

McCollum is a fantastic coach. He isn't going to forget how to coach no matter where he goes. He reminds me of a young guy that quit his good job in Indy to coach basketball. Some of us were saying the same thing about that guy that went to Butler. He's unproven, we can do better. Yea, great coaches make us all wish we would have acted sooner. Someone will reap the benefits of McCollum one day. I'm not worried for his future. -

I agree. All of those coaches are getting ready for the tournament. Would any of them, or their agents actually show any interest in taking another job at this time? I'm guessing even if they are interested, if asked if they would take another job, they would all say "not interested, I'm with my team." -

I am surrounded by family and acquaintances that either put people in jail, or work with people with addictions. It's an interesting time at our gatherings. The one thing both sides agree on is, almost everyone has a rock bottom moment that will change their lives and stop the bad behaviors for good. Beard seems to be a great father, hard worker and probably will never screw up again, because he has way too much to lose. Mark Few has been named here as a choice for our coach. What if he would have killed someone when he got his DUI. Luckily he didn't but he did the crime and he probably was scared sh!tless and won't do it again. What about Izzo and how his assistant coach abused women and how some of his players apparently did the same? Why was he forgiven for not being smart enough to see what was right in front of him. I don't know, but I do believe in second chances, because people do hit rock bottom and change their lives. Saying all that, Beard is a great coach, not my choice for IU, but I just happen to prefer others. My social working family members explain things to me, and my prosecuting side actually do believe in second chances. That's all, and probably too long for anyone to read. So, Brad Stevens, come on down! -

I think we've had a guy for quite awhile. I believe that's why there isn't much chatter out there, the talking was done way before the Woodson retirement message. Dolson got ahead of it, way before the media figured it out. -

Scott has known for months he would have to replace Woodson. He has his guy. I do believe that. I don't think he woke up today to see that Dusty was signing a new contract. I do believe we have our guy, Scott has known this for months. At least that's what I want to believe. -

I was thinking about all the baggage with coaches and Tom Izzo was able to shake off the scandal of his assistant coach Travis Walton assaulting a woman and later another sexual assault. Also his players too, can't remember which guys were involved in another similar thing. Tom just said he didn't know, but I don't know. I've always thought he was a good guy, but clearly he had some bad dudes around him. -
