I have never wanted a season to end as badly as I want this season to end. They need to lose tonight.

I've been thinking a lot about the divide in the fan base between those who say that they will be done with IU basketball and those who say they will continue to watch and support regardless of who the coach and players are. Here is my take. 1. When RMK left I realized that I was an IU fan, but I was really a basketball fan first. The game means more to me than who is playing it. I would never be a fan (wear the gear, talk about them as my team, cheer with exuberance) for a different team; I don't jump on bandwagons, but I will root for schools that play styles I enjoy. I will also turn IU off because their style makes me sick. 2. Though I don't think that it is necessary, I would rather lose playing like Northwestern or Virginia than win playing like Indiana. Not having big time recruits doesn't bother me. Lack of execution and general basketball silliness does. 3. College basketball was a lot more fun when the majority of guys stuck around for their four years. I really believe that the late 80's through the late 90's were the golden days of college ball. The highest caliber athletes being trained for the longest period of time to work together as a team. Most kids dream of National Championships and then NBA glory, not going to college as a one year audition for a shoe contract. If Indiana retains Crean. I will quit watching. I will hope that they lose to the extent that it takes to replace him. Maybe that makes me a bad fan, but I firmly believe that there is something right in the world when the best of amateur basketball is being played in Bloomington.

I looked for a thread where this would fit in and did not find one. I thought I would use it to contribute to the page count here. I am fairly new to the whole board etiquette thing, so if this is a violation then I will gladly remove it. Each year we do a Bracket Contest and give away up to $1000 in fireworks to the winner. It is one the ESPN site. Our group name is FFMM2017 password: fireworks There is no entry fee. Its just our staff (trying to keep the product in house) vs customers (trying to win the product). All are welcome.

Is it time for a "It's Morning Time Again in Indiana" commercial? I guess either that or a "Mourning Time Again" commercial. Either way good post. I heartily agree!

I know.

I am willing to forgive Fred Glass AND support him publicly if he does the following. 1. Thanks Tom Crean for his time at IU 2. Tells Tom Crean that his time at IU is over 3. Gets OG and Bryant to stay 4. Hires either Brad Stevens, Tony Bennett, or Billy Donovan as head coach 5. Convinces Coach Knight to forgive the University and retract his death wish upon those involved in his dismissal 6. Brings Coach Knight and Neil Reed together and helps them to reconcile 7. Gets the NCAA to admit that Ted Valentine screwed Indiana out of a National Title by purposefully fouling out half the team during the 1992 Final Four game vs. Duke. 8. Vows that Indiana will never officially celebrate making it to a Sweet 16. 9. Convinces the NCAA to replay the 1975 Final Four with the original players because Scott May's injury was clearly a UCLA/Purdue joint covert operation trying to diminish Indiana's greatness. 10. Resigns immediately upon the completion of all of these tasks. Is that too much to ask?

BOOO Fire Alaska Hoosier! Unless of course he works for the Alaskan Brewing Co. Then befriend him and drink all of his Alaskan Amber. Who really cares after that?

1. If the narrative of the national media, that Crean will ultimately decide whether or not he leaves, is true, then things have gotten WAY out of control for Glass. He cannot allow the coach of any program to exert that sort of power. Basically, Crean is holding Indiana hostage if this is true. 2. The Road Game: It would not be good for Crean or the University to have a half-filled Assembly Hall booing Crean throughout an NIT game that they might very well win. If Crean is already gone this makes a lot of sense. If he is still going to be around, the boo birds are going to be ready next season. Rumor has it that a Fire Tom Crean group is growing among the students, as rallies are being planned. Some students have been reports receiving emails and signing up. 3. The Coaching Search: Unless Glass has put out feelers and KNOWS that he has a legitimate shot at a Bennett, Donovan, etc. He is completely foolish to wait on Tom Crean. "We'd love to hire you coach Donovan/Bennett, but we have to get permission from our current coach first." 4. Insiders: Its hard to know what to make of the insiders. Many people have multiple motives for putting out information. I love the forums, but those who operate them aren't hurt at all by the swirling, constantly changing rumors, this all keeps us glued to the screen clicking refresh. Others love the attention they get when they release vague snippets. I am not criticizing anyone specifically, it is just difficult to distinguish between all of these people with unknown motivations. Ultimately time will tell. I am very optimistic that he is gone. I hope that his best days are in front of him.

Hmmm.... Out east.... You know I think it could be.... WHO CARES! As long as he is coaching somewhere else I will be doing a happy dance! Good luck Coach Crean. Maybe we will cross paths in the future!

Chris Webber just said in an interview that he would choose Westbrook as the NBA MVP. When asked why Westbrook over Harden, his first point was, "Well, a main reason is that he is doing it with Billy Donovan as his coach. Uh... you know.. Coach Donovan has only been in the league for two years." Listening live, it sounded like a major shot at Donovan. I thought this was interesting considering that many have talked about Thunder fans not liking Donovan. I am a Tony Bennett guy and am skeptical that Donovan is a real option, but I thought it was jnteresting. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using BtownBanners mobile app

Anyone read the HT article that dropped 3 hours ago. The title is "Players Back Crean as Rumors Swirl." Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using BtownBanners mobile app

For me it's not about the desire to watch, though that has waned. It is about the fact that 5 minutes into the games I am so frustrated that continuing to watch is bad for my health and familial relationships. I'd love to be able to watch and cheer regardless of stupid plays and lack of defensive effort. That's just me. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using BtownBanners mobile app

I've heard that a pivotal point in the Glass Crean meeting came when Crean proved to Glass that he had verbal commitments from a three star out of Iowa and a 2 star from Oklahoma. He then persuaded Glass by promising not to schedule instate titans like IPFW, pledging that Taylor and Indiana Wesleyan would be the two toughest teams in the second half of the preseason. I believe that this is all just posturing. If Glass and Crean have a good relationship, Glass will do everything he can to get Crean the best deal possible. Keep your eyes on Missouri, it's not over. A lowball offer is often part of bargaining. Crean is gone, IU does have feelers out. This is just the way the game is played.

Instead of naming specific coaches that I would like to see at Indiana, I thought it might be helpful to do Fred Glass a favor and write a Help Wanted ad. Wanted, one head basketball coach to takeover as the leader of a once storied and soon to be dominant blueblood program. This coach must be a big boy, willing to both be the man in charge and to hold his players accountable for mistakes on and off the court. Such mistakes may include turnovers and missing class, but must not include running over teammates with vehicles or being the guest of honor at a hash bash. The coach must also intend to be a teacher who plans to increase the basketball IQ of his players with common sense principles like, "playing too fast does not eliminate turnovers, it causes them." In addition the coach must be sure to let players know that the basketball program is interested in helping them obtain an opportunity to play basketball effectively at the next level, but this aspiration will not come at the expense of the team. Being a "match up nightmare" is less important than playing excellent help side defense, and if you are a 6-10+ player with dominant potential in the post, footwork in the paint is exponentially more important than developing a 3 point jumps hot. Confidence and humility are not contradictory attributes and we would appreciate both qualities. If by chance you're interested and you're named Tony or Billy, our fans would appreciate it if you'd hurry the hell up and end your season. P.S. if you are worried about living arrangements, don't be. I've got an inside source that tells me one will be on the market shortly. Sincerely, Fred Glass Athletic Director at Indiana University (As long as I don't eff this up.)

All this sitting around (hitting refresh) is making me antsy. We need to start planning the (first) big party. Where are we meeting? What beverages do we need to order?
-
Bryant's unsaid after thought..."unless Indiana lands Billy Donovan, cuz it'd be stupid not to play for him."

I really want Crean to be fired and really feel bad that he needs to be. It would have been great if he could have succeeded at IU. I don't think that there is any doubt that he wanted to be an IU lifer. It's like he always wanted to be a member of the club, but because of his approach he never fit in.
-
Old Fart, We've been over this. If calorie turnover is his issue then he just need to eat faster!
-
Style? Or philosophy? I think that nights like tonight only serve to reinforce why I do not care for Crean as a coach. High % of made 3's doesn't always mean that offensive execution was great. By the numbers IU still had a lot of issues.
-
I didn't see the game, but any comment by a coach or player about how good this team can be when their shots are falling is asinine. What team doesn't look good shooting 12/20 from 3? Did any of the national media types notice the 17 turnovers?

I used to write satirical posts reviewing the weekly activity over there. The entrenched members grew to not like me very much.
