So many names are being thrown out for the coaching position. I thought it might be fun to leave the names out and list out top 3-5 desired traits for the new Hoosier head man. Here are mine. 1. Alpha Male (I want there to be no doubt who is in charge of the team) 2. Heavy focus on ball control 3. Defensive minded 4. Position based basketball 5. Great strategist

I like your #2. I think that a key component to being a teacher is having control of your classroom. I got very tired of seeing the player run huddles. I just want a guy that every player looks at during timeouts.

My list 1. Bennett 2. Stevens 3. Donovan 4. Marshall 15. Archie I don't find Archie's record convincing. If you take away two one point games from the 2014 season, and don't think he gets considered for the job. His team's efficiency numbers are weak. Compared to Marshall's they are poor. His wife's social media comments directed at other teams bothers me. I think he will underwhelm at a major school.

Coach Search 2017 IU Candidate: Tony Bennett (University of Virginia)
Maynard replied to Hovadipo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
He is my preference for sure. His guys play with such control and discipline. I am no puritan, but I appreciate the no swearing policy in his program, not so much for what it prevents, but for what it instills. Such a requirement forces these young men to develop mastery over their mouths. It's directly related to teaching them control on the floor. I need someone to build the best case they can for Archie. Please don't rely heavily on potential. Kwame Brown had enormous potential.

This all happened a little more quickly than I expected. Can't wait for the announcement about the new coach. It's gonna be interesting!

This is what a rebuilding year under Bennett looks like. And they lost their best player because Bennett kicked him off the team in the preseason. Post Season success will come. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using BtownBanners mobile app

Please note Archie Miller. I've tried to watch several of his games since he started being mentioned. No thanks. He will end up as Crean II

Why?

Coach Bennett, Good Luck in your last several games at UVA. Cannot wait to welcome you to Bloomington!

REPORT: Per sources, #Indiana will fire HC Tom Crean. Current #MichiganState AC and former Hoosier G Dane Fife is a strong candidate.
-
I would put up $500 saying that he is gone by the end of next week. $100 that he is gone by Monday night.

I don't have sources telling me anything. I have said before that I am just reading the tea leaves. Crean is gone. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using BtownBanners mobile app

This is crazy. At this point I wouldn't be surprised if Glass held a presser to announce that Crean was staying, and two hours later Washington held a presser announcing Crean as their new HC. A bidding war between Glass and Washington would ensue, and Glass would "win" CTC back to Indiana for 9mil a year. Really though, he will be gone in 24-48 hours. Hang tight guys. I believe that there will be a separation from Crean in the no later than Monday. I think that the movement of coaches today may have bought him a few extra days. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using BtownBanners mobile app

Nope. I have one "source" for good info. I told them to only contact me when the separation was irrevocable. However, putting all the pieces together, I see no way that crean survives this. In fact, just having rallies on campus to fire him would be something that the administration would have every interest in avoiding. The fan outrage is getting some national media attention. The number of coaches on the move is increasing which means more jobs are opening up. If it is not announced tomorrow, Crean will be told tomorrow that he has until Monday to find a new place to coach.

Very good news is coming over the next 48 hours. Be prepared for sudden bouts of uncontrollable happiness.

This is going to end well boys. Hang tight. Good news is on the way!

"It's mind-boggling, we don't practice that way." -Crean postgame Really Coach? Maybe because the competition at practice (particularly the defense) ain't all that tough. This is embarrassing. There is NO coming back from this debacle. #itsnotjustoneseason

I'm not convinced that Crean is intent on staying. 1. Playing the part only helps him with contract negotiations. It can only hurt his value to act like hrs is done here. 2. Crean is known to be an oddball. He is under considerable pressure. I live hours away from Bloomington and I had someone walk into my office today, who did not know how I feel about Crean, and say "I drove through Bloomington this weekend, and you wouldn't believe all the anti-Crean signs. Who knows how Crean would naturally act under such pressure? 3. Some of the schools, like Clemson, have yet to announce an opening. Even if he had a contract already signed with them, he'd risk losing it if people caught on that he was leaving for another school. I am not saying that it looks great, just not as bad as people think. Time will tell.

Good news, the team coming back next year has "sweet 16 type ability!" Oh the joy!

I just don't think it is fair to the sport of basketball to have such putrid execution last a game longer. Someone must protect basketball from this madness!
