It is good for both Cupps and IU that he will be playing behind Xavier Johnson. He can learn how to play at this level and the coaches will learn how well he can play at this level.
-
The University of Maryland is closer to DeMatha High School (Hyattsville, Maryland) than Georgetown..".right down the block from DeMatha." Georgetown is starting from scratch after the Patrick Ewing debacle whereas Maryland has good players coming back from a successful first season under Kevin Willard (but no natural center). Transfer players don't necessarily transfer to schools they considered in high school which is what these commentators suggest.
-
Except Gunn hasn't shown he can hit that good looking jump shot. He shot an embarrassing 8% from 3-point range this past season.
-
Sorry. Hunter is definitely moving back East. I won't be surprised to see him at Maryland. But I do believe Love is coming to Bloomington.
-
Franklin has no shot at getting drafted. He'll probably get invited by some team to play summer ball but that will be as close as he gets to the NBA. Nice guy but he'll be playing overseas.
-
Our best chance is with Love even assuming Timberlake wasn't bowled over by NC.
-
Two years left but Love wants to go where he can be successful enough to be one and done.
-
Except for the part about not having a clogged lane.
-
The Cardinals are playing (and losing to) the Blue Jays; the Cubs are playing (and beating) the Brewers.
-
He needs to go live with Hulls this off season and become that can't miss sharp shooter who gets you back into games with 2-3 consecutive 3s and then comes out. Easier said than done. Great shooters are great because of both talent and relentless work. Hard work would make Leal a better shooter. I imagine he has worked hard on his shot.
-
If IU bring's in another center, Reneau is starting at the 4.
-
You are correct that the public doesn't know if Leal's perimeter shooting improved from 2021-22 season to the 2022-23 season because of lack of playing time. The coaching staff presumably knows. Leal only took 22 3-point shots in the 2021-22 season (he passed up a number of open looks) and hit 7 of them (31%) which put him 6th on the team percentage-wise and 9th in attempts. I agree Leal should have been given more of an opportunity to play especially given Gunn's terrible 3-point shooting (8%), although he was hurt a couple of times.
-
The problem with Leal is that he is essentially Galloway without Galloway's athleticism or ability to attack the rim. Plus, Leal has not turned into the 3-point shooter some thought he was. I agree that he is "smart, moves the ball quickly on offense, hustles." When Galloway improved his perimeter shooting it almost guaranteed Leal would be relegated to the end of the bench.

IUBB @ Michigan State - Tuesday, 2/21/23 @ 9:00 on ESPN

We also knew that TJD, Race Thompson and Miller Kopp were leaving. So far IU has found a replacement for Duncomb with Payton Sparks (Sparks is likely better than Duncomb but few project him as a starter). There are still huge holes in the team roster. -
Ball State Transfer C Payton Sparks to Indiana and back to Ball State

Let's wait and see who else in the portal signs with IU before penciling in lineups. -
3 of 5 from that list would definitely be a success given how competitive it is for these players. The odds are not in our favor though.
-
We might get two from this list: Sparks and one other, maybe Ledlum.
-
Sparks is the most likely of the transfers.
-
A bit optimistic about transfers. I know there will be home visits, but I would be surprised if both Battle and Shedrick end up at IU. Timberlake seems far fetched. We might land one of those three.
-
Way more than one or two or maybe three. Let's not rewrite history. There were a large and vocal number of posters who wanted Gerinomo to play the 3.
-
OK. Not everyone (certainly not me as I asserted several times that he lacked the ball handling skills for that position). But many posters in the off season argued for Geronimo at the 3 ahead of Miller Kopp. And, there seemed to be a lot of love for him. Now the majority of posters have turned on him.
-
Definitely true if Geronimo transfers as is rumored. Everyone loves the next guy up. People project performance that often isn't realistic. This time last year through the summer everyone loved Bates as the starting 2 and Geronimo at the 3. Now not so much.

It seems some are forgetting that a player like Sparks has choices that would allow him to start, including power 5 schools with a national audience. IU is not his only option. Why not go to a power 5 school where he can start?
-
I graduated from IU; my daughter graduated from IU. If I'm Sparks, I'm not going to IU to come off the bench. Starters like to start and Sparks has been starting in college for two years.
-
IMO, if Sparks commits to IU it is because Woodson promised him the 5 and said Reneau is playing the 4. Starters like to start.
