We only had one of the best players in the country. Not a bad starting point.

Chris Ledlum - Harvard Transfer to Tennessee -- Wait, Make That St. John's
Honkyman replied to Hovadipo's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Apparently not at all for Chris Ledlum since all of them are retirement age or older. -

There were several reasons that came together resulting in Bird dropping out of IU--including that things were not right at home. His father, whom Bird was close with, would commit suicide not long after. -
The shot was at Fife not Filipowski.

Why is that?

Unless he commits Wednesday or Thursday or merely cancels the trip and commits next week. -

I attended an All Star game in the summer of 1974 at Butler between the Indiana All Stars and a Russian team. I couldn't believe how good Bird was--hitting shots from all over and making great passes. He was the best player on the floor. I left believing he was good enough to start at IU as a freshman. Obviously, no one knows exactly what would have happened to him if he had stayed at IU. -
People complained about the one-and-done system. The transfer portal is very similar. You might land players who stay for more than one year. But the highly rated ones like Ware are looking for a school that can help them get to the NBA in one year.

Absolutely. As an IU grad living on the East Coast, I hear basketball fans laugh at the suggestion that Indiana University is "blue blood." For them, Indiana basketball has been irrelevant since the 1980s.

Ledlum and Love were a package deal. -
We don't know that there was a "verbal." It sounds like it was a good visit but not good enough to make a commitment. Otherwise, Ware wouldn't be going on a visit to another school. It doesn't mean IU is out. It just means Ware is still undecided.

(C) Kel 'el Ware - COMMITTED TO INDIANA

It doesn't show any respect to take a free visit on another school's dime if you have made up your mind. If Ware takes the visit to Alabama, it means he hasn't made up his mind and Alabama has a chance to land him. -

(2023) - PG Gabe Cupps to INDIANA

Victor Oladipo developed under Archie. -
IU was never seriously in the running for Battle. Just a lot of posters projecting he would come to IU.

During the 1981 NCAA tournament, Landon Turner was the 2nd best player on the IU team behind Isiah Thomas. -
I was for Newman because I felt that IU needed shooting and Newman was a better shooter than Franklin.

Among Knight's three IU national champions, only the 1987 team had 4 or 5 guys averaging double figures. 1976 Scott May averaged 23 ppg, Kent Benson averaged 17 ppg, Tom Abernathy averaged 10 ppg, Quinn Buckner averaged 9 ppg and Bobby Wilkerson averaged 8 ppg. In 1981, Isiah Thomas averaged 16 ppg, Ray Tolbert averaged 12 ppg, Randy Whitman averaged 10 ppg, Ted Kitchel and Landon Turner both averaged 9 ppg. In 1987 Steve Alford averaged 22 ppg, Daryl Thomas averaged 15 ppg, Dean Garrett and Keith Smart averaged 11 ppg, and Ricky Calloway averaged 12 ppg. -
What a bunch of nonsense!

There seem to be a lot of "inside sources" who have very little if any accurate information.

Yogi was great but definitely not in the top 2 point guards in Indiana basketball history. Easily in the top 5 point guards.

There will be an official announcement. I don't why some people try to read into statements instead of waiting for the facts to be put out by reliable means.

It is ridiculous to compare a high school player who has never participated in a college game with one of Indiana University's all time greats. Let Cupps play at IU for four years and then compare his career with Yogi Farrell's (though Yogi was a 4-year starter and Cupps is not likely to start his freshman year assuming Xavier Johnson returns). However, it is a bit of an exaggeration to assert that Yogi is one of the " top 2 PG in Indiana basketball history." The top is indisputably Isiah Thomas, who is one of the two or three greatest players to put on an Indiana uniform. Number 2 is clearly Quinn Buckner who led Indiana to two Final Fours, including one national championship. That doesn't include the near undefeated 1974-75 season when IU lost by two points in the Regional finals after Scott May had a broken arm. After Buckner there is Vernon Payne, who led the Hoosiers to a Big Ten title and IU's first NCAA berth since 1958. Payne never averaged less than 14 points a season but is usually overlooked because he played in the pre-Bobby Knight era. But Yogi is definitely near the top 2.

"Mutual interest" is a long way from a commitment. Love is talking to several schools.
