Beard, then Matta (if healthy). Either of those is a solid program rejuvenating hire IMO.

After 0708’s posts earlier I’m more than a little concerned about where this is going and who that most likely choice might be.

I thought I had earlier today about Beard... he could be the closest possible thing to another Knight for all we know, and finding out might be a lot of fun. I’d really like to see what he could do with a talent upgrade.

Agree, per my post above...I would have been ecstatic two weeks ago (pre-Stevens hoopla) with the idea of Beard. We can't know for sure but is Beard the next best thing to another Knight? Might be fun to find out.

Context…2 weeks ago we were just hoping that Miller would be fired so we could seek a better coach to move the program forward. I think we would, at that point, have been very happy with several of the guys below as significant improvements. If Dolson has big money available and is willing to go big, why not march down a list similar to this one? In terms of desirability, being ’proven’, and fit; not perceived availability... 1) Donovan, 2 NCAA titles, NBA experience, conference titles 2) Wright, 2 NCAA titles, conference titles 3) Bennett, 1 NCAA title, ACC titles 4) Beard, 1 NCAA title game, conference titles, learned directly from the best (Knight) 5) Musselman, NBA experience, conference titles 6) Oats, conference titles, style of play, up and comer 7) Matta, if healthy, 2 final fours, conference titles 8) Beilein, 2 final fours, conference titles Others are purposefully not included as likely not being good fits (Pitino, Pearl, Calipari, Sampson, etc.) Even if you ended up with Beard, Mussleman, Oats, or Matta, for example, it seems like a clear improvement over where we were two weeks ago.

Really not wanting to endorse false hope or beat a dead horse but I do have two questions... - Is what was said in the presser the only indicator that this is over, or has there been other supporting information? I.e., are we going solely by the presser? - What was the reason or driver for the possibility earlier that there could be some disinformation coming? BTW, I have zero issues with our gracious insiders sharing what they believe or believed to be accurate, none. Please don't stop. Thanks.

I don't want much but I do want to have a great answer to the question "where were you and what were you doing when it was confirmed that Brad Stevens was hired"? ("I was on BTB" would be a good answer) Also, for questions like "Grandpa, looking back did you have any idea then that Indiana would win 6 more titles with Coach Stevens"? : ) (Or make it 7 more so we can pass UCLA)

I've seen, read, and know a decent amount about Brad's coaching skills and style while at Butler. But for those of us who didn't follow Butler quite as closely, can someone provide a quick summary of his general approach...type of player(s), roster construction, recruiting focus, offensive/defensive schemes, low turnovers/value the ball, etc.? Is it guard centric, wing centric? Long/tall wings? Traditional bigs or lo/hi? etc. Thanks!

I'm definitely hoping for Brad Stevens to be the new coach but even if it doesn't work out that way I can find great solace in knowing that legitimate attempts were at least made....makes a huge difference to know that. It hasn't always felt that way with previous searches or hires. Wanted to say thanks too to everyone for all of the info and updates being shared...really appreciate it, and it is fun.

Wait, to clarify, are you saying that there has been some traffic or some intel that Mrs. Stevens may be ready to come home to Indiana?

If Stevens were to become the coach he could build such an incredible staff. Amazing possibilities: Lewis, Guyton, keep Hunter, Cheaney, keep Roberts, etc. Virtually limitless.

Good points. Hopefully he wasn't able to pull 4 and 5 stars into Baylor because of anything sketchy or inappropriate. I appreciate being able to have cordial and level headed discussions on this forum.

Same with me for Beilein and Drew. It’s a good reminder that Beilein was top 5 in the country there for a bit (in terms of Michigan’s success) and wouldn’t necessarily be some has-been old fogey who would have to roll in to AH in a wheelchair. He did win the BIG, BTT, and go the the NCAA finals a couple of time each, very recently. I didn't include Drew because I just don't see it with him. It seems to me that the main reasons he's being considered is because he’s from Indiana and has had some relatively recent success, and not so much because of his whole body of work (my opinion). Wasn't he also thought to be pretty shady by some? To me, his career doesn't really scream 'proven winner’. His career winning percentage isn't super stellar...63%'ish. And, what has he really accomplished in almost 20 years to think he's the guy to take IUBB to where we want to go?

It looks like there are more than 30 games left in the Celtics regular season. Even if/when he said yes, it seems possible that we may not hear about it quickly or like we might with a college coach.

In my opinion, the concerns over the ‘lateness’ of a Coach Stevens arrival (saying Coach Stevens sounds good), should he be the next coach, are offset by a few things: - what he could do with our current roster - recruiting for him would be instantly different...he would be recruiting downhill not up - the possibility of the effect of the transfer changes Bottom line, I would just not be as concerned about waiting for June or July for a coach Brad Stevens. I would go so far as to say if he wants to come you wait until June ‘22 if you need to. : )
