Mike Woodson to be next IUBB coach. Thad Matta to be associate AD

I'm thinking that this hire may do more than we think to mend a fan base that has been fractured for too long. I think it may have already started. -

I'll be happy to see a team that plays harder, smarter, and is more fundamentally sound. That will be a major improvement. Also, I think we need one or two of these guys. -

Incoming transfers could make all the difference for next year if we have roster departures. could we even get better possibly? -

A thought I had today in the aftermath of this search winding down... when was the last time an IU men’s basketball team was truly fundamentally sound? Not under Crean. I think a lot of us hoped we’d see it under Archie but it didn’t really materialize. I can’t remember if we were fundamentally sound under Sampson or not, and if we were under Mike Davis that could’ve had more to do with Knight’s coaching than his, not sure. I will make this prediction though, if CMW Is able to impart to our players even just a portion of what he must’ve learned from Coach Knight we will be in good shape fundamentally. I for one am ready to start seeing sound basketball again... boxing out, taking charges, valuing the ball - limiting turnovers, taking good shots, hitting free throws , playing hard and hustling always. I learned that this was the Indiana way before I ever heard it referred to as the Butler way. I did not want us to be overly focused on an “IU guy” but if getting an IU guy means returning to fundamentally sound ball, let’s go! -

Hahaha, this post reminded me of this... -
Agree. I’ve had similar thoughts. Example: Why did an unproven Archie Miller still have a $10 million buyout after four years?
-
I think it has only been our assumptions (or preferences) that lead us to believe that the interviews will take place sequentially in descending order of priority or preference. Just because ‘number six’ may have been talked to doesn’t mean that we have interviewed one through five or ‘skipped’ anyone.

And perhaps better...Lewis was with Knight three times as long as Fife as both player and asst. coach.
-
Who are the "others" we're back channeling to according to those guys?
-
Hopefully the focus and trajectory of the search has been consistent. He started out (it seems) looking to swing big and get the best guy possible. Sure would be nice if that continues throughout the process.

Candidate Thread: Andy Enfield (USC)

I wonder how well he would recruit without the draw of LA? The deeper he goes into this tournament would help with that. -
Maybe Dolson is a Sun Tzu fan?
-
Agree, big step. Izzo and Gard did it too albeit at the same school.

Here’s a question for the group... why would folks prefer Fife over Michael Lewis? Is it because of his stint as a head coach? Just wondering because Michael Lewis has been, what seems to be an extremely successful assistant, for like 16 years, under Knight, Stevens, and others. Seems to have played a major part in improving the success of the teams he’s coached with. And he played for Knight for four full years and coached under him for two more. Fife played some for Knight and some for Davis. Just curious what folks thoughts are.

I don't follow Peegs but I think there was some info from there shared by someone that was along the lines of "Dolson has done it right" and "Dolson got his man", if I'm not mistaken. Don't recall a specific Bennett reference.

And this should be the floor, not the ceiling.
-
Consistently being in the top 20, 10 or less losses per year, top 3 in conference, not worrying about being a bubble team...all would be major improvements.
-
Ha ha ha... for a second there I thought you were somehow going end end up with Kevin Bacon.
-
Of course, HOME RUN would be in the eyes of the poster.
-
Who would be deserving of “HOME RUN”, all caps, and has been available to discuss the position? assuming the post is legit.
-
Donovan isn’t in the NCAA tourney
-
Beard, then Matta (if healthy). Either of those is a solid program rejuvenating hire IMO.
-
After 0708’s posts earlier I’m more than a little concerned about where this is going and who that most likely choice might be.

Rug-roh. “Lateral to Archie” sounds pretty bad truthfully.
