  1. Most of us agree the jury is still out. The point of contention is the absurdity of this thread existing, it's practically parody. He hasn't even finished his first season yet. People rag on how insane and toxic our fanbase is. I don't agree with that assessment but this thread 100 percent plays into that stereotype.
  2. I would also like to add the early shot clock 3 happens with lots of teams that have shooters that emphasize 3s. I'm not the biggest fan of it myself especially if they miss and it's a turnover, but I understand why it happens . Kids feel hot and it's an open look. And if you slow like TD where you're easily guarded you take deep half court 3s.
  3. Ok fair critique. But should he be fired by the end of the season if he doesn't fix it? I am sympathetic to everyone's frustrations and impatience but I think the fire DeVries thread is way too early.
  4. I think right now a lot of fanbases expectations get out of wack because of transfers and NIL and unreasonable comparisons to other programs. Look how Cignetti affected so many programs especially in the SEC. People fired their coaches because we set the world on fire and their mentality is well we are football schools so we should be able to exactly replicate that success and do exactly what they did in the same timeline. That's an insane way to look at things and your setting yourself up for failure if you have that expectation. Cignetti was a once and a lifetime special hire who had the right people around him, players and coaches that came with him at the right place that was the right fit for him. It's not unreasonable for those schools to expect success because of their history and their resources, but even if they make the right hire we can't expect the exact same circumstances or results to happen at same level of immediacy as others. Every program and situation is different and even if you reach the same results as the most successful you can't expect to arrive at the same date. I understand the frustration because we have been mediocre to bad for so long. I went to the Iowa game and it just felt awful. Your tired of losing to teams like this, especially when your losing to one of the guys we could have got. And the fact Michigan has Dusty. We are just tired of rebuilds and just want immediate results. Unfortunately it doesn't work that way all the time. I think Coach DeVries is a good coach. I don't know if he can get us to where we need to be, but it's obvious whether he does or does not we need to stop expecting it to happen under the same time line as other programs like Michigan. If he gets us to the tournament this year with this flawed squad I think that's progress we can build off. It's looks like we are still trending toward that and I have seen improvement in this team. I know patience is a word we hate right now but we need to have some.
  5. What's frustrating about this game is UCLA is not a very good team but they are bigger and more athletic. And the is the one the worst officiated games I've seen all year.
  6. Let's also be clear that we still have problems with BOT members like Buckner and money people like Ferguson. Remember Dolson wasn't even allowed to make his own hire the first time around because people's personal vendettas and emotional attachments. They forced Woodson but stayed out of his way with Cignetti. When it became clear Woodson wasn't going to work they finally relented. I would argue since Sampsons firing, Woodson has possibly caused the most damage since he left. They forced us to have to eat one of our own, someone who should have never been considered by any sane AD. It further hurt our brand image and we missed our chances with better options and now these same people like Ferguson have closed their wallets because they butt hurt about it. They are 100 percent responsible for this. You guys broke everything the last 20 plus years take ownership. Now shut up get out of the way and just hand over the money if you actually care about this program. Just because you know how to make money and become rich doesn't mean you know the first thing about selecting a coach and running an athletic department
  7. Glass was not a great AD by any means but I don't know if I would say he was the worst. It seems like the biggest issue is we had horrible presidents and board of trustees that has been our biggest problem. After Davis left it was Herbert that made Greenspan hire Sampson. Great coach but for ultimately a bad cultural fit. However I've heard things from Greenspan would have hired Beilen or Kevin Stallings if given his choice. So either a home run or a dumpster fire choice. I guess we will never know. Ultimately he was told to hire Crean after the Sampson debacle. The point I'm trying to make no matter how bad or good our AD's have been they have been micro managed by those far more incompetent.
  8. This has been an ugly game. But I think we have been in control. I can't believe how bad UK is. If we can start knocking down more 3s we can put them away.
  9. I agree. I think going into the first year of revenue share and not knowing how this clearing house stuff will shake out, it makes more sense being conservative with freshman. Right now it's clear portal players have more value. But, I'm not sure where the true value lays for freshman under this landscape. I think right now some of these numbers seem a bit high. And desperate schools like OSU with mediocre coaches are willing to pay. You can't out talent bad coaching. Woody proved that and we paid a lot of money with poor results.
  10. Really happy about this pick up. Perhaps it's looking at things through rose colored glasses I think this pick up may have more benefit long term then getting Thompson. Obviously Anthony Thompson is more talented but he's a one and done. At least Karvala is more likely to be a multi-year player that fits our system well.
  11. Based on the massive buyouts under Woodward I totally get why you wouldn't want him to make that decision. But the Governor injecting himself into the situation and running his mouth is horrible. If your doing a committee do it quietly, or fire Woodward and hire a new AD to make that decision. LSU should be the number 1 available job or at least tied with Florida this cycle. Any big name coach is going to be completely turned off by this clown show. This is next level too many cooks in the kitchen.
  12. Really happy with this win. This was a really great first test. Baylor is a team that really attacks our weaknesses we were concerned about going into this season. Baylor is a long athletic team known for crashing the boards. The kind of team we don't really have a way to practice against. The fact we grinded this out even after it looked like it would get away from us in the first half is big. If this was a Woodson team we would have been blown out. What's more impressive is this team is supposed to be a great 3 point shooting team and we had an off day .We still found a way to win through our defense and made nearly all our foul shots.
  13. I don't necessarily want to be the team that is always throwing out the most money and that be the deciding factor. Woodson era proved that isn't going to get desirable results. If we miss on this 2026 class which is considered a weak one, I would rather have money for the transfer portal. And if we have a good year that will only help things with the portal and 2027 recruits
  14. I agree with all this. We are coming at this with own biases on how an 18 year old kid should make a major life decision. Let's be honest there were some recruiting cycles we won under Woodson where other schools would have said we only got that player because of money. We just got to move forward. I am confident if DeVries shows a team this year we can get behind, runs a fun system and punches above its weight, we will start to win more of these battles. All the other handicaps like money will also likely work themselves out.
  15. I sounds like results on the court will be out biggest leverage going forward especially if we can't or aren't willing to pay as much. Kids may like our system but are probably taking a wait and see approach. It sucks Money was the deciding factor it sounds like. But he also maybe wanted to be close to home.
  16. He's the best coach in the country. As far as I'm concerned he should be the highest paid in the Big Ten. We got the money we can make it happen.
  17. It has struck me that DeVries is not somebody who just wants to make the highest offer possible just because we can. My whole impression is he wants someone who wants to be here for the right reasons and not just the highest bidder. So to me he's more selective about when to make the highest offer. Was it not the case we outbid UK for Lamar? As far a less money being there this year I'm sure there are many factors. Some of it is former donors who were butt hurt about Woody and may take awhile to come back. Some of it could be they are taking a wait and see approach because they basically torched their money the last few years. And some of it could be administrative bs being overly cautious and uncertainty about the new rules. As we see currently 2026 recruiting is a mess. But I think if DeVries really wants someone and needs to ask for the money I feel like the call would be answered. And if we show improvement this year, get to the tournament, and more clarity on the rules, that money will come back. I just fail to see a world where we remain outside the top 10 in spending. I am concerned about Rabby's report but I think we should just wait and see before we jump to conclusions.
  18. Maybe is or maybe he isn't. But I think DeVries regardless is very good coach. I think Drock also brings other elements that make him a better fit than McCollum. I am 100 percent behind the hire. I was for McCollum before I knew anything about DeVries. I think Dolson made a smart well reasoned decision. For once this feels like a well thought out hire instead of all the stupid ones we made before it.
  19. McCollum may be a better X's and O's coach than DeVries but he's still a very solid coach. And winning at a higher level program like Indiana there are other aspects such as recruiting the right level of talent. And the style of play can affect the level of recruits you get. I was definitely for McCollum but I had legitimate concerns about that. I feel comfortable at this point that DeVries may be a better fit. But time will tell
  20. So what is the word? We have a new coach already and it will be announced immediately after Woodson is gone? Who that is is open to speculation?
  21. So have we reached out to McCollum and has he shown he's interested?
  22. People keep saying IU doesn't need to take a risk when hiring a candidate like McCollum. But whose to say IU has any choice in the matter. If all the top candidates tell us to kick rocks and other tier is candidates that have radioactive baggage or a candidate with mediocre results like Collins and Brownell, well eventually you are left with the up and comer tier. To be honest we shouldn't be surprised. Look what happened to U of L and UK. Hopefully we have similar results with whoever we pick.
  23. I think IU needs a brilliant tactician. Someone with a solid system and philosophy They don't have to be a Calipari bull **** artist to get recruits in today's game with NIL and revenue share. And honestly whoever is the coach we need to hire a GM to help with the portal. I would say anyone who takes the job and puts in the hard work immediately has an edge instate recruiting. The other aspect is personality and engagement with fans that's expected at a place like IU. I think as long as they can do that they don't have to be a big name or win the press conference. Which why if we strike out on the top names, and Beard isn't touchable,a McCollum hire might make a lot of sense. Yes it's a big risk but it can have a ton of upside.
