General Coach Candidate News
HoosierMatty replied to JaybobHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Why are we conditioning ourselves to this idea the Mick Cronin will be the next coach? I seriously doubt he is high on any internal list by the AD. This is just talking heads pushing this. The same people who like to crap IU and gas light our fans. I'm sorry if Cronin gets hired I will seriously be pissed. -

Cronin and Buzz Williams are top of the WTF hires to me. They will win enough not to get fired but not take us where we want to be. Those hires are for schools that want to win some in Basketball but not really compete for anything. If you can't get Stevens, May, or we aren't touching Beard, I would rather go for an up and comer like McCollum. At least there may be a higher ceiling. -

I'm just going to keep telling myself we are going to pick the WTF hire so I'm not setting myself up for disappointment. This has what IU has conditioned me to feel. -

So are we actually going to hear anything today officially from the school? Doesn't Woodson have a pre game media interview today for tomorrows game? No way he's not asked about the status of his job. -

Doesn't Woodson have a media interview today because of tomorrows game? If Indiana doesn't release something before hand then Woodson will definitely be asked about it. Or is the intention to announce it during the interview? This seems all a little messy. Especially if Woodson is being difficult about this. I don't think Indiana would want him behind a mic. -

My only expectation is Dolson hires someone who knows how to coach. And that it will be his decision. Big name or not it doesn't matter. That's all I can hope or expect. If it's Steven's I will be elated. But I don't want to set my self up to be disappointed. -

My brother goes up to Wisconsin a few times a year for work. He always brings me back some spotted cow. -

Lol. Hey I'm just saying it would be the ultimate Troll to Purdue fans if he flipped. I hate Purdue but I can't deny Painter is the best coach in the Big Ten. -

I am curious has Indiana or would Indiana ever approach Painter. I get we have a less than one percent chance of him saying yes. But I would be curious if he told us to kick rocks immediately or at least listen. -

That's a legitimate point. The landscape has changed dramatically. The portal is also the reason you can win Big and quickly now. Unfortunately a 6 million dollar portal team means nothing with a mediocre coach. But this is also IU whose had a dysfunctional administration the past 25 plus years. Let's hope after Woodson is gone we make serious changes. -

Exactly. People say our demanding fan base is a deterrent. I say it's always been our administration. Sure some coaches don't like a pressure cooker and others don't care. But what all coaches want is a competent administration that gives them the support you need to succeed -

I think it's just a general rule most schools don't like to fire a coach in the middle of the season versus at the end. And generally the optics probably look better. Only in extreme circumstances do they make that move. Regardless of whether we think it should happen now clearly they don't feel they he's met that bar just yet. I think the plan is to definitely make the move at the end regardless. One thing to consider is the pressure of QB and Ferguson to protect Woody making firing him tough enough. Getting them out of the way may mean comprising and promising them they will wait until the end. As much as that makes me want to puke, I can totally see that. That being said looking at the schedule remaining I see plenty of blow out losses to come. I honestly think he might not get a win until Washington. If he's loses bad the next 3 games maybe we see them finally pull the plug. -

I just want him gone period. I don't care if it's at the end of the year or mid season firing. Honestly at this point I kind of want it to happen at the end rather than now. Woodson is an arrogant jerk and deserves to hear all the boos when we get torched by Michigan and Purdue. -

I watched the first half today and it's the first time I have watched in a good while. It's so god awful to watch. We have plenty of talent but there is no passion and we run the same stagnant offense. We should destroy teams like this by at least 30 but they let them hang around. Its unbelievable to me we beat Tennessee in that charity game this year. Seriously how did that even happen? -

I can honestly say I haven't watched a full game since the South Carolina game. And I was only casually watching as I wrapped my daughters birthday presents. Since the Louisville game I have completely checked out. The only thing I keep up with is the board. Woodson has to go. -

Of course only when people stop coming to kiss the kings ring does he notice things aren't going well. Narcissistic all the way through. It's a shame. I was never for bringing back a former player to coach just for the sake of it. But I would have never had imagined he would be the guy to do more damage to fracture the fan base the way he has. -

Interesting... would these people close to him be his booster friends and Quinn? I truly hope the combination of the poor performance and all the dirty laundry coming embarrasses these people so bad they stay out of the way. Do you think its likely they tell him to retire and he listens? -

Maybe Dusty wouldn't leave after a year, but one has to wonder why his buyout is so low if we wasn't eyeing to leave at some point. Michigan seems ok with it. From their standpoint they probably didn't want the buyout high in case he was a bust. And if he turns out to be a home run hire they can easily renegotiate. Either way I don't think it will be easy to get him after a year. I look at it like Brohm taking the Louisville Job. Yeah he probably still wants the IU job but he may not want to leave after year. Once again our timing sucks because our administration sits around with their thumbs up their butts. No sense of urgency to get things right. If we pulled the trigger earlier on Davis we could have got Matta. If we got rid of Crean sooner maybe would have got Brad Stevens. -

This is exactly my thought. To me under this suggested framework, The AD should be the one coming up with candidates and getting consensus and agreement. They are the one in the drivers seat. Instead you have our AD being completely disregarded and has another candidate shoved on them. A choice no sane person would chose. And it's not the first time it's happened before. It happened when Adam Herbert pushed Sampson and told the AD to hire him over his preferred choice. Basically at IU the AD is nothing more than a figure head. One to take the blame when a collection of incompetent presidents, board members and donors make hiring decisions. Heck we talk about how awful previous AD's have been, sounds like it's been intentional. -

We have the talent to win the Big Ten but we will finish 5 or 6th at best. And it's all because of Mike Woodson. I wish it wasn't the case. I'm just so sick of the mediocrity of this program. And I'm tired of the fans being blamed for being served a S**t Sandwich for the past 30 years and for not liking it. My hope is the Cignetti hire has lit a fire in the administration that getting the right coach makes a world of difference. -
I guess I should clarify. I'm not really debating coaching acumen, obviously Archie had worse results. I'm saying Woodson has been the worst at killing my fandom. Archie sucked but when we hired him it wasn't the head scratcher that Woody was. Archie was an up comer that other people wanted. Woodson was a failed 60 year old NBA coach. I gave Woody a shot and the initial results were better. But now he's clearly a bust we can't get rid of him. He's taken the most scorched earth approach and attacks the fans, and taunts his own boss for being protected by the donors. If he wasn't who he is the cord would have been cut already

I really don't care about basketball right now. Part of that is because the Football team is rolling, but mostly because of Woodson. We have the talent to win the Big Ten but we will finish 5 or 6th in the conference because of Mediocre Mike. It's sad the guy is a former player but he's doing more right now to burn down last bit of fandom I have. He's worse than all the previous bad hires. My hope is after this pathetic season is over that Dolson is allowed to finally get this right. The Cignetti hire should give him all the leverage he needs.
