So I got to thinking what teams power 5 teams has IU beaten this year. So I looked and the answer is Marquette, Butler, Louisville, Penn State, Northwestern, Michigan State, and Illinois. I was curious as to what those teams had in common that allowed IU to play offense that was good enough to win those games so I went back and watched the highlights of those games and I realized something. That the four teams that I highlighted all play a variation of the pack line on defense. There are differences but the similarities are that there is always help side that is rim line, they try and take away baseline dribble drives, and typically there is help side in the gap when the ball is 1 or 2 passes away. So my theory is that our offense was better against those teams because that is the type of defense that the IU players practice against primarily on a daily basis so they are comfortable Also Ohio State and the second Northwestern game they also played a pack line or a variation but they made adjustments to slow down IU out of it. So after noticing this I have a few concerns about what the coaching staff is doing but I'll see what everyone else on here thinks.

If the ball is in the corner you force back middle and don’t give up the baseline. If you are more one pass away you are in help. If you are on the ball and it is passed around the perimeter one spot then you jump and swipe at the ball. The one thing that I will say is some teams make adjustments out of it. If they know that a team struggles with turnovers they can apply better ball pressure and keep the rest of the principles or you can hard hedge if a team is good at dribble drives out of a pick and roll. This are just basic adjustments. The pack line is the primary principles but most teams make adjustments depending on the team they are playing. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

Virginia has done this with only getting 3 and 4 star recruits. Yes they have had a history of getting beat in the tournament. This year I think might possibly be little different with their balance of athleticism in Hunter to go with the shooting that Guy and Jerome bring unless they play Duke. He did. I’m 99% sure it was some type of a blood clot type of issue. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

For some reason Galloway is only shooting 25% from three this year. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

He’s stated that multiple times that his daughter works for Archie. I really do think he knows what is going on behind the scenes with the team but has been told not to disclose it. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

2019 General Recruiting Thread

There has been a lot of pressure on Georgia players to stay home in recent recruiting cycles. Hagans was committed there before Fox got fired and then decommitted and now Edwards has decided to stay home. -
The only names I heard about included Franklin, TJD, Leal, Galloway, Furst, and Montgomery. Never heard anything about Hopf being in attendance.

I think whether or not their suspensions or benchings will all depend on what really happened and how far it really escalated. If it was just a teammate confronting others about their effort and holding them accountable then good. If it was someone blaming the loss on others an things got physical that could be a problem that could linger for a while.

Agreed. Mongomery was there too. He was a late add that I forgot about.

To clarify that staff ran it at Butler and was doing the same things today. I was watching because I coach the pack line on a daily basis. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

He did. But you never know. Also a lot of the betrayal came from the fact that he left so late that a lot of coaching candidates weren't available since they had already taken other jobs. Not to mention he took Kyle Young with him even though Young was from Ohio.

(2019) SG Romeo Langford (2.0)

There have been some articles put out that NBA scouts are starting to view him out of the lottery and not top 5 or 10 like the mock drafts put out by the media are showing. Rick Bozich I think even had an article that an NBA scout said he should come back for another year but that he won’t and he’ll enter the draft. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -

Seems that they are set on getting another guard. Beverly and Quinones both being recruited by IU. It'll be interesting to see what happens over the next couple months. -

Do you know what goes on in practice? Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -
I think I just figured out why our offense looked better against MSU after that statement. I'll see if there is any evidence to back up my theory and if there is I'll create a thread to discuss.

There are a few guys that it seems like CAM is afraid to sit when they make a mistake. That is one of the best ways to lose a locker room as a coach when you aren't winning and you are not holding everyone on the team to the same standards.
-
If you fire a coach after his second year you won't get any good coaches unless they just bet that they will do better or they have a connection to IU. So the only guys that I would say would say yes for sure are Alford, Fife, and Lewis. The most realistic from that group would be Alford but everyone would throw a tantrum that he isn't a good coach, Pierre Pierce, and whatever else there is to complain about. I could make a case for him but I'm not wasting my time on that. The issue with the other two is that there is a lot that goes on behind the scenes that is different for the head coach verses being an assistant. That being said it would have to be an IU guy or a very confident coach to take over after only two or three years for CAM. That being said CAM isn't going anywhere unless it is his decision.
-
Sorry but you aren't building around Romeo when he will be in the NBA next year. As for the other guys on the team you are right except for Durham I think Durham is a decent role player as a 6th - 8th man on a good team but he's not a starter.

I know a lot of people put him in their second or third tier but I personally would have loved Holtman. I watch a lot of Butler games because I grew up with one of their players and the guy just knows how to win and the players like him. Not to mention he has always been pretty good at drawing up plays in big moments like we saw today.

RMK couldn't coach in today's world. He would be arrested in about 5 minutes.
