Throwback to what, exactly. Looks like they did make a Final Four one year. 1976. Should we tell them? -

Stromboli replied to Stuhoo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Seeing a few too many posts writing off UNC. They dropped a ton but they're still a ranked team and dangerous. I want to see our defense re-establish itself as elite. The only real team we've played still put up 79 points on us. Torvik puts the Xavier offense at 8th. UNC is 6th. Our points will come. Trayce will get 18+, then we need several others to chip in their 6-10 points. Let's see if our defense and home crowd can frustrate UNC to go <60. Edit: Haaaa Hova coming in to make my point while I was typing. Not directed at you while I was typing. But now it is. -
(2024) - C Flory Bidunga
Stromboli replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
I was there for the game, saw Woody, Walsh, Hunter on the baseline. Flory is fine. High scorer, but not dominant like you’d expect. Westfield would go at him without a problem. Second half Westfield made their run by running a layup line, where you’d expect Flory to have more impact. A couple times Flory flashed some talent with a fast dunk, but honestly just didn’t pop out like the game was running through him. He did have a good attitude, his teammates like him and he was supportive of them. He’s not awkward or lost out there. He stayed engaged and ran out to set screens the entire game. His effort and attitude was miles above what’s-his-name going to MSU. I’d expect he’ll have much better games. -

Yeeeeahhh this really isn’t the kind of situation I like our team to get mixed into. It sets a precedent, like we’re willing to negotiate our staff for one kid. Yeah, from what I read he’s good, and I can’t wait to get up to Kokomo a time or two this season to watch him. But we’re bigger than one kid. I’d prefer he goes to Cincy over OSU or Illinois or something. Let’s keep Reneau around and never miss Flory. -
“Make it go away forever,” he says, bringing it up unprompted 5 years later… No way. You need to ride the wave of this I-told-you-so forever. Just bask in the glory of IU’s underperformance. I hope you never get to stop reveling in our failure. Take pride knowing that only you and those of similar intellect could comprehend the gravity of a loss to IPFW. This might blow your mind, but being a fan of a team has nothing to do with impartiality. And don’t go bringing “integrity” into it as if that has real meaning here. None of this matters, it’s entertainment. Allow fellow Hoosier fans to cheer for the team if they want to, it makes them happy.

(2023) - PF Arrinten Page to USC

Man, I’m a huge Romeo fan. He completely performed his one year here. And it’s difficult to quantify what the non-court related value was. The kid was HUGE. He paved the way for TJD to come. He was a spark to Archie’s hire. And I’m guessing he didn’t get near what guys of his talent are paid now. -
Yeah if it's not vodka or tequila, I'm not that particular. Any port in a storm or some such.

(2025) - PG Mikel Brown, Jr. to Louisville
Stromboli replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Really interesting. The description reminds me of seeing Darius Garland play at EYBL. Smallish, unassuming kid on the court before the game, tucking in his jersey and looking around like it's his first time. Then the action starts and he was just a flash, going 1.5x the speed of every other player on the court. The doubter in me is also reminded of the reports of Khristian, which weren't far off from this and obviously never panned out. Khristian played a year up with Trey and Leal on the adidas circuit, and was outshined by both of them, whereas this kid seems to play up and still be the attention grabber. And that offer list for Mikel is already nuts. Another comp. Luke Brown who offered the same kind of excitement, but he always ducked major competition in AAU so no one ever got a real look at him. This kid is already putting himself against top competition. Watching those highlights in the IDH article, wooo boy him feed the bigs was beautiful. He's already got a running floater, which is critical for any small guard. And that shot release is fast enough that it somewhat mitigates being 5'11". -
Poll: IU's preseason outcome (of the 4 big games)
Stromboli replied to Southside's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Tough one! I think it comes down to whether or not we'll get production out of the 2-3 spots. We know what this team is from 1, 4, 5, and with those guys we went 9-11 in the B1G, but they weren't the issue. It was the mere placeholders we had in the 2-3 spots that never really impacted the game. Maybe JHS and Bates will be electric and elevate us up a few notches? Maybe having a playermaker running point 100% of the game will be the difference needed to get wins we otherwise wouldn't? Maybe Woodson and staff will settle into college ball and unlock a few wins that slipped through last year? I'll guess 2-2, and restate what I remember reading at some point: Not every game result is a reflection on the entire season or direction of the program. If Xavier comes out and St. Marys us, it doesn't mean we can't win the Big Ten, or whatever. Going 2-2 is both reasonable and pretty exciting. -
That whole account just posts whatever it wants to stir the pot, then gets posted and shared like there’s been work out in beyond decent graphics work. Also, a little arbitrary, especially when teams like UofL and Duke aren’t represented. It has repeatedly been great publicity for Indiana though.

As USPS likes to say, you don’t always want your targets to have great performances at these events!
-
Dolla dolla bills y’all… SEC made their move, B1G is responding. With occasional threats of teams leaving the NCAA, I guess this could help bring balance? I don’t know. It’s dumb. And no I don’t love that UCLA would take our position of most titles (by far) in our conference. I think UCLA has more or equal to the rest of the conference combined.
-
Woooo boy that was a good listen! The best stuff was the overall theme of growing these young men, really caring about them and getting them through ups and downs. Sounds like he and Woody really, really care about the players. It’s a hybrid parenting role. Basketball-wise, one of my favorite unmentioned tidbits was about Trayce. All we hear is “Trayce needs an outside shot, we need him to shoot from the perimeter.” Ya disagrees, says he just needs to do his work where he’s good. I couldn’t agree more, and get tired of people trying to put TJD on the perimeter, where he plays poorly, and take him from the inside, where he is sensational. “It will give him space to work.” Oh shut up. What we need are shooters that demand attention to keep the defense from collapsing on Trayce. The insight into Khristian was good. The call from X was great, and all they said about him. X seems completely coachable and endearing. Ya clearly likes Woodson, appreciates him. Woodson must just be a big figure, and yet he’s been noted so many times for how he delegates and trusts others. Ya even said Woodson thinks it is important for the players to hear from all the coaches, Woodson doesn’t want to be the only voice. I think Woodson is 100% confident that he knows how to turn this into a good program.
-
Absolutely. I can’t believe anyone would whine that we can still manage to be identified as a marquee team. Our defense last year was very good, even early season. We’re experienced. And hopefully our little mini run at the end of the season shows Woodson can get a team ready to play the big games, not wilt. We can’t be the same team we were last year, though. A 9-11 team that gets rocked by SMU won’t get it done. So, get some production from the 2 and 3 spots, create more actions, ball movement and off ball movement. Become an offensive juggernaut to pair with our defense and become dangerous. I’m loving the UNC draw.
-
Yeah this is nuts. I’m as excited for 2 years from now as I am for this season. What a great talent and attitude to bring in to this team.
-
It doesn’t make sense how glad I am to read this! That dude was a load.
-
I’ll run some stairs and shuttle sprints after the loss. I think WayneFleek’s 118-18 is pretty close. We’d only get the ball after they scored.

(2023) - PG Miro Little to Baylor
Stromboli replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
You have to respect his other two choices. Both great programs with obvious recent success. Without having had the chance to see him play, I like that I can rely on his offer/interest list to feel good about him. And obviously the interviews and shots of him smiling giving Race a high five at the game make me like the dude a lot. Gabe Cupps! We barely know the kid, and he’s this huge deal in Ohio and on Instagram. Now he’s out there helping us recruit other players to his position! I hope we land Little. And I can’t wait to see what our playing style becomes when we’re flush with high level combo guards. -

From the game a couple days ago. Demo gave a better report on Cupps but this helps some. https://vm.tiktok.com/TTPdr97sa4/ https://vm.tiktok.com/TTPdr9WRgK/ Yes, obnoxious the guy never states Cupps has committed to Indiana. Several in the comments point it out. -

Um. As a better lawyer, we enjoin him from changing out of his suit. The suit being the status quo we seek to keep. It’s all in the wording. Then you forum shop to file in a court with an IU fan judge. Win the temporary injunction while the case is pending, and just rack up the billables for years. Follow me for more practice tips. -
