(2018) SG Romeo Langford - INDIANA HOOSIERS
HoosierX replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I'm sorry but where exactly is this coming from? -
191 underclassmen have declared along with 54 foreigners. His chances of getting drafted are not high. I'm pretty sure he's going to come back.
-
My gf graduated from there. We figured out they had made the NCAA tournament one of the years she was there. She had absolutely no idea that had happened and felt that most other people on campus probably didn't either. She never went to a single basketball game. So there's that.

My issue with it is that it's completely false. Indiana with Romeo is better than Vanderbilt with Romeo. And very few people are talking about us contending for a national championship. Obviously my statement is somewhat of an opinion, but I think it will become abundantly clear over the course of next year. -

I did a lot of lurking on Kansas boards the last couple of months and overall felt them to be a pretty good group. Unlike Vanderbilt fans -

I like the Indy Star article. It adds uncertainty (in theory) which should make it more exciting for Romeo when he announces. -

I don't remember the circumstances around it, but playing devil's advocate, Jared Jeffries claimed afterward to not have known where he was going until he woke up that morning. -

Love to hear this kind of thing, especially about Smith so keep it coming. I think Smith making a huge jump is the key to us being a semi-legitimate final four contender. However, it seems like our practice all stars have often failed to pan out. I remember how great Hollowell apparently looked in practice before his sophomore year. I also remember at least one person saying Curtis Jones was our best player last summer. -

I’ll admit I had trouble thinking we would pull this out. It’s because I felt like Crean made Indiana so uncool that 5 stars didn’t want to come and that would take a while to go away. I know that sounds silly to say, but we are talking about the decision making of 18 year old kids. I’m not sure if Archie makes IU cool, but at least he’s not losing points in that department. On top of that, I think recruits are buying into his vision of the future. -

Are you done pretending to be a Kansas and Vanderbilt fan now? -
I’m not sure what’s worse...outing yourself for having herpes...or outing yourself for having sex with Isaac Haas.

He also more or less single-handedly beat Michigan to win the outright BT title. -

I think it's one of two things: 1) What you just said (hopefully!) 2) He didn't like the idea of being someone's backup plan -

It still needed to actually happen even if they thought it was going to. What if they both stayed? You don't think that could have potentially affected his decision? The only way "nothing has changed" is true is if he never cared what they did in the first place. That very well could be the case, but none of us have any way of knowing that. -

I don't think we are saying anything that is mutually exclusive. My point is that it's tough to say with any reasonably certainty that Vick and Newman going pro is a non issue, because of the point you made...we don't know what factors the Langfords are considering. -

Everything is a guess, who is saying otherwise? But for someone to say “this doesn’t change anything” there’s no way to know that. -

But it is based on actual information, that Newman and Vick went pro. Some people are acting like nothing changed when in fact something did. It’s not that far fetched that Romeo was waiting to get a better handle on the playing time situation there. People are saying the Langfords have already considered the potential for this to happen and I totally agree, but that consideration could have been if Vick and Newman go pro then Kansas is the spot. I have no idea whether PT at Kansas is/was a concern for him. Maybe it’s doesn’t matter at all, but it also may be of major consequence. It’s definitely not good. -

Anyone see if he is signing with an agent? My read when perusing the Kansas boards was that their confidence in landing Romeo was very much dependent on Vick's (not Newman's) decision. Makes sense a Kansas insider flipped his pick. -

So would Romeo coming make it more or less likely that Taylor comes? Romeo on the team would mean less shots obviously but would make the team more of a contender. -

OK fine but this is an opinion in two ways: 1) That relationship is most important to Romeo 2) That his relationship with Drew is better than with Archie Maybe both of those are true, but none of us have any way of knowing that. He may very well end up at Vamdy but there is very little to justify “all signs point to Vandy.” Him delaying the announcement weakens two of the bigger arguments against him coming here, namely that he wanted to wait until the end of his high school season (that’s been over for a while now) and that he wanted to announce with DG. -

Not quite following your logic -
I don't disagree, but I'm also willing to bet that 10 years from now Crean will be remembered very differently, especially if we're successful under Archie. I also don't think Crean will be talked about nearly as much strictly due to the passage of time.
-
That's because it's been 10 years since either of them has coached. Crean is still very fresh. I was at IU while Davis was coach and changed a speech in my business presentations class the night before to why Mike Davis should be fired after we scored like 35 points at home against Notre Dame.
