Game Thread : Minnesota @ Indiana | 7:30EST on FS1
bigrod replied to Trish's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
The only time I miss ESPN is when games are on FS1. -
If he was truly concerned about moving his family, he would have never entertained the offer in the first place. Did someone just tell him that he had a family? that they would have to move? Seems like a real forward thinker.

Has something to do with the lead in his pencil.

I get the frustration, but I'm not ready to say that CAM was a bad hire (I'm assuming that was what you meant by "Fire Fred Glass"). I mean, how many times did Crean win COY? Say what you will about what each coach inherited, but I look at O$U's roster and compare it to ours and I wonder how many of our guys would start on that team? How many would even see significant PT? To me, it's more indicative of how far Matta had lost his team (ditto with Crean). I'm not saying at all that Holtmann hasn't done a great job - he definitely has. I'm just not willing to say that CAM was a bad hire. Perception is a funny thing. We'll see what the perception is in a couple years. Holtmann is definitely better this year. You could probably make the argument that he has done a better job of adapting his style to the strengths of his team, where CAM is set on imposing his style. I think CAM believes that once his method is learned, it will consistently produce the desired results, but it will take a while to get it ingrained into the players. I guess we won't know until he has a chance to get it there. Personally, I think he will.

Probably stating the obvious, but in my opinion, the only way that happens is a guard not named Johnson has a strong game. Well, that and all of the guards don't fall apart in the last 2 minutes.

(2019) PF Trayce Jackson-Davis to INDIANA
bigrod replied to Uspshoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Not to sidetrack this thread too much, but I remember watching what I consider the last really good team that Knight had in 92-93. Watching them run the motion offense was a thing of beauty. Had Henderson not gone out that year, I really think that would have been number 6. -

...and a few more guys with some mental toughness. -
They have a pretty favorable B1G schedule, only playing MSU and OSU once each. They are good, but there are plenty of teams that can match their size and are more athletic.

We need to play our best game of the year, and hope they have a bad shooting night. I think we stay with them for a half, but sadly, I just don't see it... PU - 80 IU - 68 -
IU at Illinois Game Thread (1/24 - 9pm - BTN)
bigrod replied to KB0's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I totally agree. I have to admit, I did think we would get a little more out of our seniors than we have. They are terribly unaware much of the time. But wow, can you imagine this team if they played D like last year? -

I'm going to have to respectfully disagree with you on that. After careful analysis, I believe the kid in front is crop dusting.. -
B10 Basketball Recruiting Thread
bigrod replied to hoosierpap's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
I agree he deserves a lot of credit, and I also agree is some way his transition was easier due to style of play. It's hard not to be a little jealous, but at the same time, we are looking for a long-term fix. Not saying that Holtmann won't have success long-term, more just saying I don't think he could have done any better at IU than CAM is doing. If you look at the talent we lost and the trajectory of this team last year compared to this year, I really don't see how CAM could be doing much better. I really don't think you can compare them until they are in about year 5. -

Hard to argue with that logic... -
Yep - our best hope is to make them look slow.
-
I won't disagree, but I think they are also really just starting to come together and get CAM's system as well. They played many pretty long stretches without Davis and never played as well as they are now. Having said that, Davis doesn't seem like the kind of player CAM would have recruited for his style of play.

Phinisee is probably going to do wonders for Davis' game. -

Yeah, I totally get that and I agree. But that also makes his statement false. -

...and yet, Rojo is out there every game. -
I definitely appreciate the effort, and they definitely seem to be coming together. But wow, we have a couple players who seem to play the game with blinders on. I can't remember ever seeing seniors with so little awareness of what is going on around them, where they are on the court, and what the situation calls for at a given moment. That game should have been over long before we almost allowed them back in it. Thankfully, we made all our free throws at the end.

Dad laughed and said "Don't worry, son. I've lied my way out of way bigger things than this!"

(2018) SF - Jerome Hunter Transfers To Xavier
bigrod replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
My guess is that all see fairly significant playing time. If Hunter can get there defensively, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him starting. I think we need Anderson’s outside shooting, and we obviously need a point, but I would think Green or Al would start. I think CAM wants to have a longer team out there next year, so it’ll be interesting to see what combinations will be on the floor together. Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners mobile app
