2019 Off-Season IU Roster News and Moves
bigrod replied to CrossboneIU22's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Exactly - we need foundation players. We need guys that are here for 3-4 years and want to get IU back without worrying so much about their own draft status. It's easy to look at Oladipo and say we want a roster of those guys, but a little harder to know who those guys are. He had the physical tools, but worked his butt off to get his skills where they needed to be, all in the context of the team. He was a rare guy who could showboat a little, but you never felt like he was trying to hog the attention or take anything away from his teammates. But you also have guys with a lot of skill with maybe not all of the physical tools. Many times those guys play with passion and a chip on their shoulder that you don't get from the higher ranked players. -

So, just purely out of curiosity, does a student athlete have to go through a staff member to access it or can they do it on their own? -

For his sake, I hope this isn't true. I'd hate to be a kid who wanted to stay in college and have that kind of pressure put on him. -
The Season Is Finally Over, Now Where Does This Program Go?

Hopefully up and out of this mediocrity abyss we have been rolling around in. -
Transparency??? No way... not from our beloved NCAA.

The Season Is Finally Over, Now Where Does This Program Go?

I would have said the same thing just based on observations from afar. I believe I remember correctly that the only way Moore agreed to play for Archie was if he wasn't red-shirted. There was all that talk of him being a NBA player too, which probably didn't help. I think if he wants to play, it may have to be somewhere else. I don't think Smith has seemed like he has wanted to be here for most of the year. Definitely get the impression (also based on his dad's comments) that he thinks he is a different player than he is. Seems like a good kid, but if he hasn't or isn't going to buy in, its best for both parties to look in another direction. -
I like Archie and fully supported the hire, but I have to say I don't think he's handled a lot of things well this season. The lack of effort is one of those. After watching certain player prance around the court last night, I just don't understand how a coach can put up with that and what kind of message it sends that he does. I totally get that he wants players to play hard in practice and wants that to be the basis for their playing time, but at a certain point, you have to base it on what happens during the games. Some players love the pressure of playing under the lights and others shrink away from it. That has to be factored in because you don't get any points for practice. We continued to see the same starting lineup almost every half, with seemingly no consideration to the on-court performance.

Wait... he's seen pics of the inside info? Like them actually butting heads? Wow! I would believe it too if he has the official insider badge in his credentials. -
B-But Coach K said that doesn't happen at Duke.

Exactly. I was thinking if we have no one one the bench that can play better than this, we are in a world of hurt. And if this is acceptable to this staff, it’s even worse. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app -

...and, we never offered Hunter (who also wanted to come). He got more valuable minutes for Purdue than Anderson did for us. -

Sure, I get that, but it also comes with a lot of other things that Painter may not be that interested in. I don't know though - Mitch seems to care a lot more. I remember what that was like...

Remember what happened when the football coach was rumored to be leaving. Painter might get a nice raise either way.

Did you notice his remarks about Smith at half-time as well? They asked about Smith and he got his Izzo annoyed look and said they were following their game plan, and something to the effect of, Let's see if he can keep it up in the second half. I thought it was a true statement, but you rarely hear college coaches put down opposing players. -
My dad is going through it right now, and my grandmother (his mother) went through it as well. It's not fun at all. He is no longer the same person. His personality has changed so much. It's sad to see the person you have always looked to for strength turn into a shell of himself.

There are plenty of statistics on both sides to support whatever anyone wants to believe. Bennett did not have overnight success because he brought in a pretty different style. He stuck to his principles and is seeing the payoff. Archie is bringing in a totally different style, and he is also learning somethings along the way. Most here are pretty passionate about IU basketball, and we caught up in the season as it is unwinding. Realistically though, as much as we all wanted this to be a smooth and easy transition, we had to know it wouldn't. Having said that, no one could have imagined the skid we've endured in January and February. I like Archie and think he will build success sooner than later. I do hope he can learn to make some changes in the future a little sooner than he has this season, but I also realize he is playing the hand he has been dealt to a certain extent. It's not often you can draw three cards and end up with a straight flush. Most times you end up with a pair.

IU basketball becoming irrelevant
bigrod replied to HoosierSadaseci's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
In times like these, the saying comes to me: It's always darkest before the dawn. The problem is that I keep thinking it can't get any darker and it just keeps on going. I do think we will eventually look back on this year as an anomaly. We were in much worse shape than most of us wanted to believe when CAM took over and his system is 180 degrees from what Crean had. This off-season is critical to the future though. -
