Given slick Rick's past, am I the only one who finds it interesting that he has gone on to two religion oriented universities?

Any Chance Purdue and Matt Painter Part Ways?
bigrod replied to Herotime's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I agree, but also think he could look at this season and say that his stock will never be higher. Unless he is able to add long distance shooting, the chances of everything going as well as it did this year are not good. At his size, you always have to be concerned about what an injury will do to your future. -
I think another year in college would really benefit him, but I can't blame him for leaving if he knows he is getting paid. I don't see him being an immediate success in the NBA, but he definitely has the talent. Either way, I'm glad he came to IU. I don't think people realize how screwed this team would have been without him after X went down. For a freshman to show the poise he did was pretty amazing.

Great to see, but these are the final hours of his career. Not sure the "lambasting" up to this point wasn't somewhat warranted.

Game Thread: NCAA R64 vs. Kent State - 3/17 @ 10:45 pm (no lie)ET on TBS
bigrod replied to Hovadipo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Yeah, I feel like if we can get past this game, we might be able to make a decent run. -
None of these QB’s are a sure thing. I’m glad the Colts aren’t giving away the farm to get what could end up being mediocre QB’s. Sure, there’s a chance these guys end up being great and we regret this, but there’s just as big of a chance the other way. I’m not sure any of them are ready to start next year. I wouldn’t be upset at all we traded back and got the kid from Tennessee and one of the vets available, and see what happens.

2024 General Recruiting Thread (BBall)
bigrod replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
I do remember at least once, maybe a month ago or so, that there was talk of 'hearing some good news soon' in reference to a recruit. I believe it was Sisley. I know he's a '25 recruit, but I'm pretty sure I read that here. -
One of my favorite players, back in the day.

(2023) - SG Jakai Newton to INDIANA

Do you think he's going to be able to get on campus and start working or is he still in recovery mode? Maybe the time he has to the end of the school year is enough? -

I know it's not popular, but given the QB's in this draft, I have wondered why they weren't reaching out to someone like Carr for 1-2 years to give the young QB a chance to develop. They can get Carr and still get a QB in the draft.

WTAF? Is that really a thing?

IUBB vs Iowa - Tuesday, 2/28/23 @ 7:00 on ESPN2

In my opinion it's the way it happened and the time of the year it happened. This team had a lot to play for and could have used the PU game as a surge to finish the season. Instead, it looked like one of the games where no one seemed interested in doing any more than the bare minimum. Everyone TALKED about not letting the Purdue game be a waste and finishing strong, but it turned out to be just talk. Why follow up one of your best games with the worst? If you're going to advance in a tournament, by definition, you have to be able to handle success. Mental>physical, as some other coach used to say. -

I wish this team had half the mental toughness of the women's team. -
Which is weird, because if you remember when he came in, Woodson said he loved his swagger. I don't remember that those were his exact words, but he said that he loved that he played with attitude, or something along those lines.

I have worked for a couple companies over the last 10 years, and both utilize the 4 day work week, but only for people who work on the production floor. For some reason, they both seem reluctant to push it to the people who work in the office, which is too bad. I have brought it up, but it seems to be something that they don't believe will work, for whatever reason. I am nearing retirement age in a few years, and have always thought that instead of going immediately into retirement, I'd like to just cut back for a few years. I think I could easily work another decade if this 32 hour concept would catch on.

I agree with this - 110%.

IUBB vs Illinois - Saturday, 2/18/23 @ Noon on ESPN

I get what you're saying, but just because TJD makes it look easy doesn't mean that it is. -
Seems like he's made the mistake that many coaches make when they jump to a higher profile program. He is going after talent instead of fit, and then just letting them play. I've felt like he has been a little over-rated, but mostly due to his lack of success in the tournament. This year has definitely been different.
-
I know we all have short memories, but it was barely a month ago that many on here were trying to force him into retirement. All I’m saying is that when you hire a coach in his mid 60’s, you’re not exactly playing the long game. He could decide after any season that he’s ready to retire. Just because it’s not the plan, doesn’t mean it won’t or can’t happen. The administration has to be aware of their options.
-
…and this is why IU basketball has been mediocre for years. You have to always be aware of what else is happening and have contingency plans.

I’ve been watching when I can. I was going to try to go to yesterday’s game, but couldn’t make it. He has them playing hard for the most part, and that definitely hasn’t been their calling card the last few years. I’m hoping the timing can work out somehow. I really don’t see Woody staying a lot longer.

(2024) - Liam McNeeley to UConn
bigrod replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
I didn't watch the whole game yesterday, but when I did watch, he was the one that flashed the most. He seemed to always be around the action and obviously had a great offensive game. -
One thing about this team that is hard for me to wrap my head around is the seemingly bipolar way they operate. Outside of TJD, there is really no one that can be counted on game in/out. It's like a lot of the players have never grown out of that freshman mentality. As a coach, you have to keep substituting until you find the guy with the hot hand for this game, with the knowledge that they won't be there for the next. Just a strange team, in my opinion. Maybe it truly is just the talent level, but how can we have so many players that were overrated on the same team? It doesn't pass the logic test.

Wasn't this the game where Knight said something to the effect, I thought we were in trouble until I looked down at the other bench and saw Dale Brown, and then I knew we had a chance?
