(2016) PG Devonte Green to INDIANA
MadAboutIndiana replied to WayneFleekHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
But what I'm asking is why don't you think he'll be as good as Nick Z? Because he didn't put up big numbers? What have you read that would lead you to think he'll transfer? -
(2016) SG Grant Gelon commits to IU
MadAboutIndiana replied to Stuhoo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Once a year isn't close to enough. They can't see all of the guys enough to be able to differentiate between them once you get to a certain point in a class. This 2016 class seems extremely deep/loaded. So where Grant ultimately is ranked--whether it's 108 or 158 or 358. why should that have any meaning? I respect the job they do etc etc but it seems to me that it's just fodder for fans to talk about in the off season. Who gives a rat's behind about high school once it's over? Lol Personally? I think Crean was so shaken by the Devin Davis thing, along with the other players that crapped on his culture, that he went and found another Hulls type who absolutely bleeds IU basketball--doesn't hurt that he's lights out. I in no way believe the other aspects of his game are Big Ten level...yet. I just find it odd there's so much second guessing. Seems to me like just the kind of kid Crean has had good teams with. Remember when everyone counted on having Hartman's scholarship open up?....... -

Can I ask why you don't expect him to be anything this? Seems like a decent comparison -
(2016) SG Grant Gelon commits to IU

They're meaningless. They drive traffic to websites--other than that? What's the purpose? Yes, the higher ranked guys are better bets but anyone can point those guys out. The experts haven't even seen Gelon to have an opinion. Recruiting rankings are for high school mommies to email Evan Daniel and Jerry Meyer about -

I have to disagree. The recruiting ranking guys have it made. Anyone can see who the top 20 are. But I don't think who they rank after the top 100 or whatever is really all that telling. Those guys do favors for access, etc. Who has the eye to rate, rank, compare all of the kids in that 100-500 tier? DWade was once ranked like 313 in his class or something. That's a meaningless ranking as is Grant's. What he brings to the table is what stands on its own. Given the players he will be playing with, it seems to me that he will have a role at IU. Provided he does what is expected of him, and there's no reason to assume he won't do that. -
(2016) SG Grant Gelon commits to IU

Is there that much of a difference between a top 150 and top 300 guy? Or whatever arbitrary cut off you want to have. Hulls did have better schools interested, yes. But it's more about where IU is now. Gelon isn't being asked to do what Jordan was asked to do -

I wouldn't write this kid off yet. Crean has had a good rapport with kids like this. Tough minded, not concerned with fan doubts. Like a Diener or Hulls. Gelon is a bigger, longer, Nick Z with a higher release -
It's not that they over recruited a guy. It's that they begged and pleaded for him to skip his senior year of high school to do so.

Every player has a different developmental curve. Just because he's made the same mistakes for years does not mean he will always make those mistakes. He's still a young player. When/if Troy blossoms, what a player he will be Troy is not someone IU can easily replace.

I've never seen an elitist like this guy. Getting into it with Collin Hartman and other players over nothing, the Grayson Allen trash, his creation of and handling of the Dillon Brooks thing. He's a sore loser. Much like some IU fans with Stevens, he's been mythicized into some sort of miracle walking the Earth. On this issue, it's plain as day what happened. Duke used Thornton. He didn't land the guard he needed after Tyus Jones went one and done. They were always going to land a top 2016 guard. Thornton was simply a stop gap.

Injury Updates- JW/ROJO/CH/OG
MadAboutIndiana replied to hoosierpap's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Hoping for a successful recovery offseason for Juwan! Really believe he will challenge to start if so. -
You're 100% right that it won't affect his public image. Coach K is a fraud. We have to stop putting these folks on some kind of pedestal. Just look at Knight.

Does kansas' consistency say more about them or the Big 12 conference?.......

Screw Purdue... Come to Bloomington -
PITT Transfer Josh Newkirk is headed to IU!

I'm worried about his quickness laterally, and his power/explosion. That could be tough to regain, but you never know with a good athlete -
IU Basketball: Who is leaving? Who is staying?

One thing is certain... I have NEVER seen a player like Troy Williams. You're exactly right. Some stretches he would finish everything and get fouled -

If he ever "gets it" it could be a sight to behold at the college level. His ability to get to the rim is elite. Just wish he could finish. -

(2016) PG William McDowell-White to Fresno St
MadAboutIndiana replied to Uspshoosier's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
After the lack of guards during Crean's tenure, can't complain about adding one of his caliber. One of our downfalls this season was not having good enough guard play. Can't ever happen again. -
Late 2016 signing/Grad Transfer
MadAboutIndiana replied to Hoosiers219's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Former Muncie Central, Cincinnati, and Ball State guard Jeremiah Davis is transferring for his fifth year... Was an early Crean target back when he first got to IU in the 2011 class. Don't know if he's a fit with the "culture" but he's a typical guard for Crean's offensive system -

(2018) SG Romeo Langford - INDIANA HOOSIERS
MadAboutIndiana replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Hell, Coach K came to New Albany his 8th grade or freshman season! Screw Scheyer and Smith. Lol! Hoping the rumors are true that IU and Crean solidified themselves with the Langfords this year, seems like it's gonna be really tough to get him though
