Why is Booing considered awful?
MadAboutIndiana replied to weaverswonders6's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I'm talking about the ones who boo coach and players at the home games. You know the ones. -
Well, we are about to find out these next few seasons... I contend that Indiana fans have extremely unrealistic expectations for a program that was dormant not too long ago. His track record is pretty clear. He builds programs. It's not like he took over a powerhouse Marquette program, and in one cycle he had them in the Final Four. One cycle at Indiana, and he builds the best team in the country. And now here he is with another conference champion. I know it's an absolute travesty if Indiana ends any year without the national title--but the guy is clearly setting IU up for that kind of success. I mean, it's apparent. This is the first year the program has been healthy since the mid 90s. There is depth to overcome injury, there is class balance, major talent, and major recruits on the way. If just one of Cody/Victor had stayed, we are talking about 3 top 10 teams in 4 years. That dip was unavoidable especially when Vonleh turned out to be a disinterested bust. That isn't due to "coaching." There are things that happen in CBB that our fans will blame on Crean, but when it happens at another program they suddenly look past it. You can't look at the first 3 years. Look at his five year resume and tell me he doesn't have the ability to build a title winning team. It's asinine to ignore what he's done just because they were beaten in the S16 in the past. Nothing will ever be good enough, and eventually we will push Tom out in favor of some coach who will appeal to the sensibilities of the pasty banner-head fans. Then we will really see what we had.

The 2015-16 Hoosiers could just play zone.
-
I don't see any reason why Tom Crean's product can't win a national title. Most here said he'd never assemble a better team than Cody's sophomore year--until he did. I respect your perspective. I simply don't see the relevance of Indiana's greatness in a past era. We are fighting a totally different war now. Timing is everything. Bob Knight was here at the right point in history. Maybe Crean is coming into his own as he turns 50?
-
I'm just not a real IU fan, I guess. A true Hoosier hates Tom Crean with a passion. I'm glad you know what it takes to win a title. I'm sure you were a wonderful coach.
-
I'll never contend that a coach is above criticism. The only thing he hasn't done is go to the Final Four. The program is healthy. Crean brought it out of the abyss. Not an easy task, though that's what it's made out to be--because Crean did it, it must be easy. Academic focus, character development, strength training, recruiting, etc. etc. are all in place. The program is now healthy enough for sustained success. The down year after the last Big Ten title can be attributed to the large classes Crean had to start out with, along with the impossible-to-predict development of Zeller and Oladipo. But hey, let's start over! Again.

Come again? En inglés? The man has won two Big Ten titles. That's a fact. He's proven himself. Dan Dakich said it perfectly on the Illinois broadcast. Sure, there are things that didn't go as well as you'd like, mistakes made, etc. but the guy has done not just a good job--he's done a phenomenal job the last 8 years. It's truly sad that many can't give him an ounce of credit.

I feel bad for you. Seriously.

Yogi earns Big Ten Player of the week.

Other than Isiah, has there been a better guard at Indiana? Ferrell is one hell of a player and is going to be a second round steal -

The founder of a famous iubb site said today that MW is leaning towards IU. Fwiw... -
Which is 100% reasonable and justified! My point is that it doesn't matter if IU loses out, or any other poor scenario. Winning the conference saves his behind.
-
Let me get this straight... we don't have unanimous acknowledgment of the fact that there's no chance they can fire him now. Clinching the B1G... That does it, no? The national reaction to firing him the year of a conference title would be fascinating to see, though!
-
Sorry if that came off as an attack^ don't mean to attack anyone individually! Just trying to better understand the lack of excitement around this team
-
For the love of God... Syracuse was a great team. Ranked #1 that season. What is the point of rehashing a game from 3 years ago? Other than to keep the focus on everything but Crean having any level of success. Of course IU has to finish strong! Obviously. But it's like a lot of people expect us to lose out every time we have a good win. It's not Crean's fault this program slipped to irrelevance. Can't you be happy that IU has a respectable, healthy program? A Final Four probably quiets things for good. I'll give you that. That kind of run is badly needed.
-
True. Never have understood why the committee values play in conference tournaments so much. Louisville getting the #1 overall seed in 2013 due to winning the Big East tourney was a joke.
-
The fact that Indiana hasn't won the BTT before...is absolutely irrelevant to this season. The BTT itself is kind of irrelevant, tbh.
-
How many teams have you seen play better basketball than Indiana during the conference season? There aren't many. Michigan State would be one. UNC, Kansas. Villanova I guess? We have a deep, complete team and our fans are scared. It's laughable. This team can absolutely contend for the NCAA. It's a crapshoot. We have as good a chance as any IMO. Look around at these other teams! College ball is diluted right now. There's always room for debate but you'd have to be ignorant or stupid to keep questioning whether Indiana has a tough team this year. It's as plain as day that this team is having a ball playing together.
-
A good portion of our fan base believes IU will lose in the round of 64/32. There is extreme paranoia. What is up for debate? You don't fake your way to a Big Ten title. I don't care what the SOS was. Indiana dominated their opponents, for the most part. There are two games left. Two. This is real. No debating whether this team can contend.
-
As good as a loss? Wow, man. Indiana is the Big Ten champion as of yesterday. What is with the paranoia? This team is for real. It isn't up for debate. IU is one of the best in the country right now.

A Big Ten title means year 9 of the Crean Machine is assured... Wouldn't it be something if this turns out to be *the* year?

(2017) PF Jack Nunge to Iowa

Nunge seems like a kid IU fans will complain about not signing. When in actuality it is likely that there just aren't enough spots. -

Am I doing something wrong or am I really the only one in the chat? Never done this before. -
Crean was robbed that year. Worse was Victor not winning player of the year. If not Vic, should've been Cody. Not Trey Burke....
