Colts go to Germany to play Pats and then have a bye at the four week mark. My guess is he misses five games and we see him the week after Thanksgiving against the Bucs which would give him a full seven weeks to heal and Colts will be extra cautious.

Jonathan Taylor would make a great politician or dodgeball player with the way he avoided questions from the media today;). Either way sounds like he is ready to play for the Colts now which is bottom line.

IU Men's Soccer News and Notes

Also this match ending in a tie was kind of symbolic of the IU-UK basketball series being renewed. Both teams got something but not exactly what they wanted. UK claims they didn't want to play the series at all so they gave the ability for it to happen period and IU had to take one less home game. Just like the draw tonight everyone got something but less than they wanted which is story of the season for two normally elite soccer programs. -

Two identical teams with all the talent in the world who don't make great decisions and always keep composure with the final pass and when its time to finish in the net. IU did dominate the second half and got a bit unlucky but also until they get a bona fide scorer on this roster this is what you get. The lack of development of Luka Bezerra as the expected go-to scorer is not Yeagley's fault at all but's it tanked the season. Gonna need to win the Big Ten Tourney to keep 37 year NCAA streak alive just like 2013. If history is any indication this will be solved in 2024 with an elite scorer but the fix isn't on roster now. -
GA only available for main level above Row 32, on court, and balcony. All roughly 7,000 reserved seats in first 32 rows of main level are gone via season tickets. Not sure how many of the 10,000+ GA tickets available were sold in season package. Bottom line though is numbers this year for attendance will be huge and top last year with every game starting with a base of at least 7,000 since they always go by tickets distributed.

Most definitely agree. IU not really appearing on Peacock for football is because it will not move needle for subscriptions. Only the teams that will drive subscriptions get a lot of Peacock games of course.
-
For everyone who thought BTN+ was going away I knew there was no chance, Now we just need Peacock and BTN+ for games. At least Peacock will get money's worth for 4 months and $24 but this was price of getting this really high $$$ TV deal and excluding ESPN and adding NBC instead. NBC not having any sports channel outside their regular network like FS1, BTN or multiple ABC/ESPN channels makes streaming necessary for many games.

For everyone who thought BTN+ was going away I knew there was no chance, Now we just need Peacock and BTN+ for games. Also, the reason so many women's games on Peacock is that with ESPN gone, BTN has had to pick up a number of more men's games comparted to past relegating women to streaming even more.

Apparently athletic department disagrees and wants to play UK bad enough to take a lesser deal similar Gonzaga.
-
Depends how bad you want series back. Some fans would walk over broken glass to get this series back even with this arrangement and are thrilled. If Cal was unwilling to budge from this current demand, I would have asked for 75-25 ticket split at Lucas Oil and 75-25 split at second Rupp game instead of 100-0 at Lucas Oil but I am not in charge. Also remember Gonzaga agreed to similar arrangement so IU is not alone.
-
IU will have 100% control of tickets at Lucas Oil and will make it a home atmosphere. I assume IU will offer to season ticket holders first and have a student section. However, when other 15k go on sale (I assume they will do midcourt set up with half attendance) to everyone + secondary market will be 30-40% UK fans. Basically the equivalent of an IU game vs. OSU in Bloomington. IU can spin it that they did it this way so more IU fans can go. However, reality is this is only way Cal would agree to series and IU will do anything to get it back and can't say I disagree.
-
The price of doing business with UK I guess. Have to give them two home games to get one. Tells me IU wanted the series back badly enough to get shafted a bit and they may not be wrong if this was only way to do it.
-
Also, for everyone who thought cord cutting would save money think again. With all the streaming services now, Internet + online cable+ streaming is almost $200 which was price of traditional cable. No surprise that media conglomerates have figured out a way to one-up the consumer trying to save money. Reality is corporate America will always find way to make their $$$ no matter how much people try to save. Not a bad thing per se but the truth of capitalistic economy.

You can still subscribe for just the 6 months of football and basketball at $6 a month and then cancel. That is $36 a year which is still less than the $60 for a year. In IU's case you can literally subscribe for just Dec., Jan., and Feb. for Men's and Women's Bball given state of football at Indiana for on $18. Just like everything else you can order month to month and cancel anytime.
-
The $5.99 a month for three months does not bother me. What does bother me and I don't think the Big Ten thought through is with recruiting. I can see it now where coaches in Big 12, SEC, and Big East start negatively recruiting against Big Ten by saying "100% of our games are on regular TV while (insert Big Ten school athlete being recruited by) has a half dozen games on streaming only including big rivalry contests. There fore their product is inferior and they don't take sports as seriously". Obviously eventually, every conference will be like this and that pitch will go away. However, for now just like with BTN with minimal distribution for first couple years, this will absolutely be used against conference when recruiting. The Big Ten taking the plunge first always makes it richest with TV contracts but at first can be used negatively against it until others follow suite. At least unlike with BTN in mid 2000's. the games on Peacock can actually be watched by anyone who chooses to pay. With BTN, some people could not subscribe to DirecTV for any number of reasons and literally could not watch for first 18 months.

So weird having an IU Kentucky game in soccer where both teams are struggling and in danger of missing tournament. Always has been a match between two squads near the top of college soccer the last decade or two. -

It feels like Woodson needs to look in the mirror and make sure he is closing long recruitments with elite prospects correctly. Have no idea what is going on but for whatever reason this is still a challenge for him. He has done everything else really well. -
2013. Women easily made tournament and hosted a game while men were 5-11 in regular season and only made NCAA's because they won Big Ten Tourney. Similar to this year (Paige Weber), Lisa Nouanesengsy was a go to scorer and team rode her back and a dynamic offense to their only great season of last 15-20 years while men struggled. I actually think this year's team has more promise than 2013. This is because defense is slightly better and Gerstenberg is an elite goalie now while Shannon Flower was decent but not great. Striker and goalie are two most important positions in soccer and this team has both. In 2013 they had one of the two. I doubt they make a College Cup as they are not quite talented enough as a whole but should easily threaten Sweet 16 to match best ever finish in 2007. Women have an extra round so that would be winning two games instead of one like on men's side. This is because due to Title IX their are only around 200 men's programs and well over 300 women's programs. Hence there are 64 teams that make it with no bye for women, unlike with men with 48 where top-16 (which IU has been every year but two this century) only requires one win for Sweet 16. IU could well host a couple rounds as a top 16 team (RPI 17) but they would still have to win two games at home rather than one to make it that far.

IUMS vs Michigan - Tuesday, 09.26.23 @ 7:30

2013 was worse but not because of scoring. That team finished 5-11 in regular season and only reason they made NCAA's was winning Big Ten Tournament or NCAA streak (since 1986) would have ended then. This team will also need to win conference tourney to make postseason in 2023 and that is harder now with the games at the higher seed instead of a neutral site like it was back then. 2013 team had opposite problem and couldn't stop anyone because they had a struggling defense. Their scoring was fine and future MLS'er Tommy Thompson led a dynamic attack. 2023 it is a good defense but the complete lack of a go to scorer up top (which is not on the roster right now) has occured because a player or two didn't pan out as expected which is a rarity in Yeagley era. I fully expect a dynamic scorer for 2024 via portal or top freshman. Anytime there has been a glaring problem (see the 2014 team completely remaking and fixing the defense and being back to normal or the 2017 team having dynamic scorers after struggling with that in 2016) Yeagley addresses it big time in the offseason. He just can't wave a magic wand and bring in missing pieces midseason. -

Usually Kentucky next would be a huge RPI opportunity but they have struggled worse than IU. At this point we are looking at an NCAA Tourney without IU, UK, or Maryland who are normally seeded teams unless any of them win the conference tournament. -

What did he think McNeely was going to say? He is not going to break his choice to Goodman. No reason to report this. -

Aaron replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Other Indiana Hoosiers Athletics
IU is unlikely to sweat unless something changes quickly. They are either going to win the conference tourney and get the auto bid or be far outside the postseason picture. RPI is in 70's with few opportunities for quality wins left at halfway point. Outside of the game at Penn State, everyone else remaining on the schedule has very poor metrics. Generally the Kentucky and Maryland games provide a chance for quality victories (especially on the road as they are this season). However, those two squads are worse than the Hoosiers this fall. So strange to see all three of these elite squads having really rough seasons at the same time. -

This was the Notre Dame game all over again except for the penalty late. A great goal by MSU early that IU matched. Than an even match the rest of the way either team could have won. Probably would have ended in a 1-1 tie if not for that trip by Shreffler that absolutely was the right call. Guy was certainly not going to score being all the way at the edge of the box. Yeagley cannot be happy with that and it will be interesting to see if he plays again in critical minutes as this was his first chance at it and he let his team down. Team is now in a desperate situation to make the NCAA Tournament at all. MSU, ND, and Washington are all headed to postseason but Indiana is 0-2-1 against them. Throw that in with a terrible loss to South Florida and IU's RPI is still in the 70's. This result did not hurt it but need victories quickly or it is Big Ten Tourney Championship or bust for making NCAA Tournament much like 2013. -

IUMS vs Butler - Tuesday, 09.19.23 @ 7:30
Aaron replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Other Indiana Hoosiers Athletics
This game only reconfirms what we already know that team is elite defensively and struggles to score. Starting Bezerra at striker and pushing Goumballe back to midfield with Mihalic as a super sub helped some. It bogged down the attack less than previously but this lineup still makes team offensively challenged and there is no answer on the roster to fix it. It should also be noted along with DePaul and Evansville, Butler will be worse team Hoosiers see this season. Team really needs a win at a surprising MSU team Friday both to improve their RPI (which still sits in 70's) and stay in the Big Ten race. PSU is back to their form of two years ago and already 2-0 in the league. Northwestern and Wisconsin are much improved while OSU has fallen back to earth and Maryland is surprisingly struggling worse than IU. Michigan and Rutgers look to be just plain bad but it is still early. Also gratifying to IU is Kentucky is pulling what Penn State did last year where they return almost their entire squad from their elite 2022 season but somehow fallen off a cliff. Bottom line is Indiana will go as far as defense takes them this fall and have to hope that is enough to continue the consecutive NCAA Tourney streak of 30+ years.
